fishinwrench Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I'll tell you who really enjoys fish roe.... Your lovely, ultimately revered and respected, patriotic BALD EAGLE. They'll eat the eyeballs, peck out the eggs, and leave the rest of the flesh to rot.
BilletHead Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Trying it I thought the texture was mealy and it was kind of tasteless. I could take it or leave it. Felt the same about snapping turtle eggs which Was gritty feeling on the palate. One reason they go trough all the prep work on mullet roe…pulling out as much moisture, then pressing them to compact the grain so to speak…..Japanese food I find places texture first then Taste….the whole flaming them before serving kills fishy aftertaste on many things they eat….using a dehydrator would cut days off the prep time… MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Johnsfolly Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I will say that I do enjoy fresh uni sushi. That is sea urchin roe. It tastes briny like the ocean with a nice fish flavor and a nice texture/mouth feel. nomolites 1

curtisce Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Bussed through this thread. We had salmon roe in alaska. I would rate it a 5 out of 10. My brother in SD loves to catch Paddlefish. He get big females.. He brought a quart jar of cavier to our spring fishing trip. nothing like scooping a load of roe on a triscut. I ate half the jar. Image how much that would cost if you were eating russian caviar. BilletHead 1 The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
