@BilletHeadmy remark about what makes a streamer was facetious, because the terms are used so broadly today that anything on a hook can be called  anything,  however in my mind streamers are still the trolling flies of Maine, with bucktails, jigs, flat wings, hairwings,  &c as separate categories, probably an idea from one of those old books I read long ago. The language has changed a lot over the years and there also materials and methods that did not exist way back when. If the fly tyer says it's a streamer, it must be one.

@micsince I'm not in your swap I'll apologize for posting to it.Y'all have fun with it the flies all look fishy.

Appreciate it, but I've already got 6 unfinished projects ongoing.  I have no business starting another right now.

I would like to know what the body material is on that Fish Candy though.

Looks like long UV polar chenille, and a hybrid catcher.

No offense taken... I thought your post may have been satirical, but you never want to ask a woman with a pouch how far along she is until you know for sure which way that conversation goes.  LOL

I would like to know what the body material is on that Fish Candy though.

  • Standard 4x long streamer hook; in this case size 4
  • Black Tungsten Bead size 3/16 slash 4.6mm
  • Red thread for the nose.  Make a small football shape nose and add thread until the bead tightly fits on the thread ball.  A two turn whip finish on the hook side and cut.  Add some head cement or hard as nails and shove the bead in place locking it in and leaving the slightest bit of red on the nose.  I got this on a YouTube tie off on the Orvis page.  Works well.
  • White thread for the body
  • 10-12 turns of lead or lead substitute.
  • Tail: UV2 Marabou Silver Dun - 1.5 x the hook length - I didn't pick this because of the UV, but the color was perfect for the fly
  • Body: Dub on Ice Dub UV Gray - Just use to level out the body and cover the lead.
  • Body: Cascade Hackle Flash UV Mylar and Tri Lobal - color Silver.  Tied in at the back and wrapped forward.  I built my first one with the black also.  As you wrap pull the tensile back like a wet fly wrap.
  • Head: 2 clumps of Ice Dub UV Gray - I tie in a clump on both side of the head, fold it back and overwrap.
  • Tie off and use a brush to brush everything back.

Note... I have not had the chance to try this in the water yet, but I got it from a YouTuber that was doing well with it in the Ozarks; specifically Bennett.  He didn't add the clumps on the head, but I thought it was to thin.  Hey it works for him though.  He said it works on all game fish, but called it Trout Candy. His YouTube handle is Fly Fishing with Jeff.  Jeff if you are on here, thanks for the videos.

Just went to clean up all my materials and found I left one of the Pistol Pete's on the vice. I dropped it in an envelope. That way everyone can get one.
