With the weather forecast predicting 60's by afternoon, I had to go.

Started off fishing in the main basin, off points, for smallmouth - picked up 4, 2 were keepers, slow rolling a 2.8 Keitech.  Made the decision to go back into Indian and work the trees.

Got a couple of bass on the Ned rig, working the trees, but not a lot of bites, moved once more and spotted some shad dimpling the surface in the channel, so stopped and started throwing the Keitech again.  The shad were over 40 feet of water, and I'd let that bait hit bottom and then slow roll it back.

Caught a 12" spot on my 2nd cast, released it, cast back into the same spot, let it sink to the bottom and THUNK, got a solid hit, felt a couple of head shakes, and that fish bolted - it was an unstoppable force, I had maybe 50 yards of braid on my reel and it was into the backing in a few seconds.  Got the trolling motor dialed up to 100% and started following the fish, but it still kept pulling drag.  Took me across the channel and headed straight for a cedar tree, couldn't stop it and into the tree it went and the show was over.  No doubt a big striper and that fish owned me.

Went back and caught several fish under those shad, including a few largemouth.  Next thing I knew it was 1 PM and time to go.

Boated 15 bass, 5 were keepers.

umhmm... The One You've Been Waiting For; 1, Quillback 0.

I feel your pain. Problem is, you've been exposed now, and likely infected. Heck your story got me all excited, and I thought I was cured.

I can't dance like I used to.

I figured you would be fishing today.  Good job as usual.

The wind has kept me from going out and now I’m in MS taking my wife to Panama City.  BTW it is 78° down here in Natchez.

Great report as always Jeff. It was a beautiful day. Cooler up here today than yesterday but wind was zero. I was out but killing birds instead of catch and release.

I would like to say that has never happened to me, but it has.  Had to be a toad striper, you can turn a big cat.

Geese?  Bunch of them around the Indian Creek Corps park.  They know where they are safe.

Limit of three Canada geese two of which were banded up on the East side of Hudson Bay. Three mallard drakes too.

Congrats on a good day @Quillback! That spot has some girth. With the running fish I always wish that I had seen the fish then am happy at times that I hadn't.

Yeah would've been neat to see it, but never got close enough.

Hey not trying to be that guy here but, have you had the chance to try the very new MB X-80 jr ??

I was down there right after Christmas visiting a friend who is a major tour pro and he took me out and we fished them and absolutely blew them up with them but, we did have to put a suspend dot on the belly and these are sizer subtle and don’t require much movement from the angler.
they were hands down the best little finesse jerk I have ever used and now I am waiting on my shipment of them to arrive so I can get back out with some lol.
