Maybe the ones I see aren't actual "Spruce Moths"..... That's just what I call them.

They are bluish gray, and gather in pods over gravel bars.   Somehow I learned that they were called spruce moths....and it just stuck.

I read on a fly tying forum that a guy used "Soft Scrub® with Bleach Cleanser" to lighten cream colored hare's foot. I never tried that, don't know how it really worked.

You might use a bit of white poly yarn as a hot spot or over wing to make it easier to see, depending on the fly.

If you want to get a good dye job though, go see the nearby hair salon, they are  experts at that work., it will require lightening followed by toning with a blue/violet  based tint,  I think. A hairdresser would have the right bleaches and dyes for hair. And presumably the skills.

I delegated Sugarbritches, and put her on the case.  She's picking up a hair dye kit when she goes shopping tomorrow.

I can't be trusted with dying materials after my last attempt to make a whole rabbit hide bright pink.   Ruined my clothes and about 5 dish towels, stained the Formica countertop.   Ended up with a bright pink hide that had very pale pinkish-white fur.    🙄

Ohh boy I can see it now. If you left it up to the beauty salon you would end up with old granny blue hair.  Hoping sugar britches has some luck.

I leave a pile of white every time I get my hair cut.  Those white ones get kinda wonky like snowshoe feet.  But not as thick and bouyant.
