bfishn Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 LEDs, HPS, or metal halide lights all produce ~3.41 BTU heat per watt, so multiply your total grow light wattage times 3.41 to get the added BTU load. Divide that number by 12,000 to get the ton rating. Assuming your room is already conditioned, that will give you the capacity needed to compensate for the lights. jdmidwest Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 I have not used led grow lights, but other led do not create heat. I assume the led grow lights just put out different wavelength to stimulate plants. They may heat also?. With the more expensive one they put off stronger light but I don't think I need the stronger ones with a Greenhouse. My Sister has a cover for hers during the heat of Summer. Cover will cost me $150. And I think I will just hook up a Mini Split to help regulate temperature. My Son has talked me into using Rain Water from a Holding Tank. My Tap water is 8.5 PH Rain Water will be better. oneshot

The difference is the light output (lumens) per watt. A 10 watt LED might produce the same lumens as a 100 watt bulb, so the total heat output of the LEDs is less, but the BTU per watt is exactly as I stated. oneshot 1 Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 I got some LED's on our House Plants it's interesting seeing what they like. Like I say they are cheap but I think something along this line will work. oneshot
