I drove through there about 6 AM on my way to Table Rock.  The parking lot at the admin bldg. was packed, vehicles on the road waiting to get in, vehicles lined up to get out.  Might have been a news truck parked there too, but I couldn't look around too much.  Campground looked to be full.  Hope everyone there had fun.

  • I've been to one. That was enough. It is a cool atmosphere and environment. Much more of a draw than the fishing aspect, at least for me. Akin to opening day of rifle season for deer, which a lot of people only hunt those first two days every year. Fun tradition here in MO.

Don't let @Flysmalliefool you. He is there. I just seen him below that second set of falls!

You will never find me there on opening day with a rod in my hand. I have considered attending one just to photograph the chaos. I bet I could come up with some hilarious images.

Sounds like 1800+ today. Here's a cool story from a RR 0day veteran.

Pretty good article from a small paper.  When I went over the bridge I saw someone out in the river with a headlight and I assumed they were etting there to claim the spot, then read in that article that people were getting out there at 1 AM to get their spot.  It is an event for sure.

I know someone who comes down from KC every year and they stay the night before and party it up and I highly doubt they even go to bed. He told me to get his favorite spot he needed to get there by 4-5 before they sound the siren. Brags big time when they catch one over 18". Then again, he is one of those that only go like once or twice a year. Typical of most folk down there I'm sure.
