Members breeves2245 Posted April 11, 2023 Members Posted April 11, 2023 Upgrading my 16' bass boat/utility boat to a proper bass boat - A Lund 1775 Renegade. Plan on hitting Beaver more often is one reason to get a larger boat. Question - since both are almost the same driving distance, which lake do you think I'd have better luck with Grand or Beaver? If I want to spend time getting familiar with one of the other, might as well concentrate on the more productive lake. Talking bass fishing mostly.
Quillback Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I have not been over to Grand in a few years, but it has always been a good largemouth lake, but maybe not as good today as 10 years ago. Few if any smallmouth however. If you want to catch smallmouth, lower end of Beaver is a decent fishery for them, and there are some nice spotted bass and a few largemouth. Top water striper action should be starting soon. The one bad thing about Grand is in the summer it is crazy with recreational boats.
Members breeves2245 Posted April 11, 2023 Author Members Posted April 11, 2023 I knew I could count on Quillback to respond after over 70 views with no response! Thanks. I guess I'll keep it local and just learn the Prairie Creek area.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 We could have all responded, but many of us don't fish those two lakes. We are just nosey and like to read most or all posts. A favor was done with no response instead of alot of fluff and nonsense. I do hope you do well, and continue to post your results for us who don't fish those lakes. I like to see success all around. Just be thankful that this thread hasn't been turned into a debate about transgender athletes, or something. 😅 Daryk Campbell Sr, shark bait, BilletHead and 3 others 2 4
Devan S. Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 I've fished both lakes for entirely different reasons and neither lake for bass. That said both have there pros/con. At Grand, I always fished up "river" from Sailboat bridge. I'd say I caught more fish at Grand...not necessarily Bass but whites, crappie, and cats. At Beaver, I've never fished much below 12 bridge and caught different fish entirely Striper, Smallies, and Walleye. Probably caught less fish overall but likely better quality apples for apples. Water on Beaver(where I fished) is gin clear. Water on Grand(where I fished) was just short of mud comparably to Beaver. Scenery on Beaver is better(I haven't found a better sunrise than Indian Creek). Scenery on upper Grand to me is blah. All that said.....I do think Grand is likely a better Bass lake minus SM. If it was truly even and I really only wanted to bass fish....I'd go west. Quillback and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
rps Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 I have fished both. For recreational fishing, go to Beaver and bless your stars there are only "some" cabin cruisers and wake boats, and species both approachable and fun to catch or eat. If you want to practice for tournament fishing, go to Grand and put up with the stupid boats and learn to fish largemouth bass. Quillback and Daryk Campbell Sr 2

Members breeves2245 Posted April 14, 2023 Author Members Posted April 14, 2023 Really appreciate the feedback. I'll just concentrate in the Prairie Creek area. A 17' aluminum bass boats and recreational boats don't play well together. So if Grand is full of those, that will defintely get me to Beaver. Plus the few YouTubes I watched on Grand makes me appreciate the beauty of Beaver. Daryk Campbell Sr and shark bait 2
