Renting a boat ?

I will try not to drag this out too much.

I seldom use my boat anymore, I noticed that my personal property tax has went up $100 a year for the past 3 years, even thought we own the same items, which should be depreciating. I have a 2004 tracker deep v dual console, I pay my vehicle taxes in stone county, I did the math, it now costs $110 and change annually to have my old boat set in the yard, and it's going up even though my boat value is going down. By next year it will probably cost more. Then add up keep, you know the things anglers don't speak of.

Back to my question does anyone rent fishing boats, with graphs and trolling motors, if so what would the cost be?

Now someone will suggest a guide service, I have thought about that too.

Here's a fun fact you may not know...you can pay vehicle and water craft taxes in any county in Missouri as long as you have a p.o. box in that county. We used to live in stone county but have not for years, (the rate used to be less in stone co. than jasper where we reside). FYI Shannon county has the lowest rate. I may end up moving my p.o. box there.

This tax thing is getting out of hand, of course this is just a small example.

If you're considering renting your boat(s) to offset PP tax then I can tell you this....

I do repairs and maintenance on 8 businesses that do rentals. At the end of the year I total up the costs, and I always ask myself "Are they even making any kind of profit?"     I don't know what they are charging, but if they are recognizing any profit at all then they have to be charging a rather hefty rental fee.  

Far more than I would be willing to pay to rent a boat,  that's for sure.   

Basically, the type of people who rent boats probably know that they have NO BUSINESS owning one because they'll tear it up bad in no time at all!

Thank you for your words wisdom, but no I was thinking of renting instead of owning.

I wonder if I could start "DH Product Testing LLC and just write it all off.🤔

Call some marinas or big resorts on the lakes you like and see what they have.

Call some marina's, most have rental boats with cheap electronics on them. It's not in-expense but it is cheaper than owning a boat. It's about a $175 +/- for a fishing boat, $250+/- for a pontoon with a bimini depending on size, or you can get a wake boat for around $500+/- a day, A boat rental should provide a positive cash flow after you consider the deductions for depreciation and insurance proceeds that your going to get from yahoo's tearing up your stuff.

I've rented from Big Cedar Lodge. Our pontoon had electronics and a trolling motor.   I can't remember the cost.   I have made the long term decision not to buy a bass boat.    For my use it will be cheaper to rent one wherever I go.  4 to 6 hundred for two days rental if I remember correctly.   I can still drive my mini van, no truck payments.   I don't have to worry about finding a place to park it while going out to dinner,  shopping etc.  No monthly boat payments, insurance, storage etc.   But, I also don't live close to a lake to really enjoy it.

Wow,  my whole fleet, 17.5 08 Tracker Crappie Pro, 16' 89 Panfish Special jet, and 15' Express little jet only cost me around $60 a year in property tax.  3 year boat tags are $31 now, permanent trailer license is around $70, forever one time.

I spend more money on batteries, tires, and general maint. than what you are worried about.  They are all rigged like I want them.  Screw the insurance unless the area where you go requires it.

The way I see it, less than one crappy rental boat.

Your boat might not have depreciated in the last few years. We bought our boat used in 2017 at a reasonable price at the time.  I look at used boats on the internet all the time and have for several years and it appears at least the asking prices have really gone up, as the price for new ones has gone up. Based on what I'm seeing at least in our area the asking price for our boat would be more than what we bought it for.

We have moved which added 30 minutes one way to an hour drive conservatively 3 hour round trip with no stops (that never happens) is just too much for me unless I can leave for 2 days, now more money in. 

I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore. It kinda sucks but that's life.
