If it stretches the piece...and you remove it and pound it out straight....it may not fit when you go to reinstall it, and you'll need to re-drill to fudge the hole. Then the SOB will be rattling all the time. I use wedges to straighten them while still attached to the foot. I have not had a problem yet but I don't pound the crap out of them either. I'm not forging a knife blade. Sometimes all you need is putting in a vice and crank it down. So you can hear it rattle over the motor noise? You must be superhuman. You must be superhuman I fail to hear plenty of things, just ask Sugarbritches! But I always notice something buzzing, pinging, or rattling on an outboard that shouldn't be. Nothing superhuman about it, it's just what I've been tuned for. 😉 Daryk Campbell Sr 1

Well that's likely because you've never had to re-drill one and elongate the hole to get it reattached. Otherwise you'd know exactly what I'm talking about. How do you think a grate bends drastically without stretching some ? That one of Pete's looks suspiciously on the edge of tolerable flexing.....to me. Jus'sayin' 🤷♂️ Straightening out while still pinned in place keeps things tight. That's all. Nothing to be ultra concerned about....they are plenty affordable.
bfishn Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Never had a jet, but I'd have a couple wood blocks that fit the adjoining slots, and a slot-sized piece of steel I could beat thru from end to end. Tire tool, socket/extension, spark plug... Just a thought from a guy that carried a coat hanger and dykes to replace shear pins back when. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 I can't dance like I used to.

Mine are far from straight in a line, but good up and down as not to disrupt the flow. I should probably get some new ones, but may just upgrade to a Tohatsu instead. It didn’t affect the performance so I just waited till I got home to mess with it. I’ve actually banged mine around quite a bit and that’s the first real “damage”. If you can even call it that. I think most of what I’ve hit catches the rear edge of the foot while missing the grates. Fun AF to run around in light weight Jon with a 90 jet though😁 BilletHead and bfishn 2
