tjm
Short shelf life is great from the government's viewpoint, it ensures that there will be no fuel hoarding by the revolutionist "preppers' and that when the "SHTF" happens the opposition will be out of fuel within the three week life span of ethanol. On the other hand since it is such a powerful solvent ethanol should keep the varnish out of the system until it does breakdown.

It's a powerful solvent for sure. Given just a short time it can dissolve things made from aluminum alloys. And given more time, it can dissolve things made of hardened steel. Including the actual containers used to hold & transport it. Varnish should be the least of anyone's worries. As far as the government is concerned..... people who lack decent quality fuel could find it more difficult to PAY TAXES, so the balance is critical. TRRANGER
The "fix" if you want to call it one for Phase Separated fuel is to add isopropyl alcohol in large quantities. Example is if a filling station has a tank that goes in to separation they just don't pump it out and dispose of it, that would cost large dollars on a 3000 gallon tank. What happens is a company comes in with 55 gallon drums of industrial rubbing alcohol and dumps it in the tank and put a 3 inch pump hose in 1 side of the tank and the discharge in another side of the tank and starts circulating the fuel and adding alcohol till it has corrected the separation. So it says 10 percent but it could be more depending on many factors, ethanol fuel is less efficient than conventional fuel by several miles per gallon and as the ethanol content increase the efficiency decreases. snagged in outlet 3 and tjm 1

And to think that man has drunk the stuff for eons, it's a wonder we haven't all dissolved. BilletHead
tjm
The pump just says 10% Ethanol, any amount of isopropanol that's added is just part of the "blending", it doesn't change the amount of ethanol. I'm pretty sure you'll find isoproponol (perhaps by a different name) in more than one of those fuel additives.

aarchdale@coresleep.com
I have a carbed xr6 and I think it runs better on 87, Mine never sits for more than a week or so. I was told to run 91 when I put Chris Carson Reeds and crank case stuffers but that 87 with Ethonal runs just fine. People freak out way to much about Ethonal. Just use it up and its fine. My truck and boat are the same age and the ole Hemi runs on whatever I feed it snagged in outlet 3
