Terrierman Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Saturday afternoon in the bluff hole at Buffalo City was nothing short of incredible. We caught somewhere around 100 between us. Nothing remarkable other than that tiger striped smallmouth. Later that night I took my only picture of the whole trip. Good times, thanks to everybody who made it. Found a new friend in Ray Ray. Heck of a fisherman and all around good guy. Folks who missed it, there's always next year. snagged in outlet 3, Quillback, bfishn and 4 others 7
Johnsfolly Posted December 16 Posted December 16 @Daryk Campbell Sr Thanks for the reports. It was good to live a little vicariously through them for those of us that don't have a fishery like that near us or a bunch of friends that could make a trip like this happen if we did. I do hope to evenutally get back for one of these fests soon. You guys defintely needed some fried oyster mushrooms in the mix, I know a guy...😉😁 WoundedOne, Terrierman and nomolites 3
gotmuddy Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Jigfest 2024 was one for the ages. thursday afternoon was rough until DJ/ray and I went down to the mouth of the Buffalo and fished the seam then we started hammering fish, but ran out of light. thursday night we had some finger foods while we waited on the chicken to get done in the smoker. Friday we went to rim, Ray fished with me, I caught a fish on my first cast. We had some good fish that first drift, but by the second drift water had turned yucky and was coming up so we all went down to Red's. Fishing started slow for me but Ray was nailing them, then I got in the groove and we ended up with a bunch of eaters. Friday night we had amazing fried catfish and potatoes, along with more trout dip and candied jalapeno/cream cheese. Saturday morning it rained so we took a nice lazy time with breakfast, which included backstrap which was amazing. We finally got on the water around 11:30 and just stayed at Buffalo city. We caught quite a few fish, then DJ caught the thickest 21" brown I have ever seen. After that the fishing slowed down and we went down to the mouth of the buffalo where we absolutely slayed the fish. Many times every cast we were hooking fish, nothing of any real size, but good fish. Saturday night I made gumbo which turned out great. I realized saturday night that you could tell how good the fishing was by how many hangovers there were...which was zero. sunday morning Daryk made an awesome breakfast with biscuits/gravy/sausage then DJ and I went up to rim to fish a couple hours and nailed the fish again. Several thick fish but nothing notable. I miss the days of 15-20 people jigfests, but having 5-6 was great too. WoundedOne, Johnsfolly, Quillback and 4 others 6 1 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Terrierman Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I told Janet this was a bit unusual for a jigfest. Nobody got wasted or really even close and we all caught the heck out of 'em. At 72, I've had enough hangovers, but thankfully not enough good times with good friends. Old AND new. What a time. Johnsfolly, Quillback, nomolites and 2 others 5
