We mentioned that, just saying. You can see the log he tossed into the river before he went all Rambo on the water. I found it comical to some extent. We tried to explain to him he was in the wrong, but he was completely uninterested.

Kinda looked like inbred stupidity to me.  Lots of that affliction going on now days...........

When I confront a trespasser, I am blunt and direct.  They are usually trespassing or lost and realize they are wrong.  I do not have to even display a weapon.  They always back down and start coming up with excuses, somebody told them it was ok, they are lost, etc, used to come here as a kid, blah blah blah.  But my posture and body language has worked so far.  They have retreated and seem to realize I own the place.

But I always start with "Hello, who are you?"

I own both side of a stream, but never run into fishermen.  Its always hunters. And the others looking for something.  I get names, have game cam pics of license plates, and a good network to find out who and what they are up to.  One of my best lines "I don't allow hunting, we are running active traplines on my property."  That lets them know there are dangers for their dogs and someone is always around to check on things...

I appreciate the landowner's perspective on this and that is probably the right way to handle it, but this incident...just wow.

More reason not to laugh at or taunt him, with that poor  shooting, folks could accidentally die. Laughing at a man with a gun could be construed as suicidal behavior. Of course the display or brandishing of a gun is illegal, and this guy is lucky that no charges resulted, but in the case of an accident, the dead person won't care that the shooter may be prosecuted, he'll just be dead. It won't matter if alcohol, drug use, or line breeding played a part, accidentally dead is still dead.  Guns deserve respect and you should never assume that the user won't accidentally commit homicide.  Especially if he is outnumbered or feels threatened.

My comment was nothing more or less than an observation.  Weird person with a gun acting like that would get me to leave pronto.  And it's true, he's not a very good shot.

I do.  It's still safer to go floating than get in your car and go somewhere.
