Dutch Posted May 29 Posted May 29 No I have not. I’m using the fg. In two years I have never had a knot failure. Let us know how it works for you. dan hufferd 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I’ve used a half crazy-Alberto for a couple years with no breaks. But…. Lately I’ve gone straight fluorocarbon instead of braid with leader. I used straight flouro on a windy day and then saw this video. Pretty interesting. gramps50 and dan hufferd 1 1

Well I may have to give fluorocarbon another shot. I hate changing line all the time. I love off shore fishing as well.🤔 What size fluorocarbon do you all recommend for an all around casting set up? My spinners are going to stay with braid for sure.

nomolites Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I use Invisx as well, my flouro all around casting rods are spooled with either 8 or 10# - I use them for stripers, hybrids, walleye, and bass, and routinely catch large fish with no issues as long as I retie as required and replace when it is needed. I use more care when tossing 1 oz spoons, but those line sizes work well. I have one glide bait rod with 15# currently,, and again I use care when casting the bigger stuff. I use heavier braid/flouro for flipping docks/cover although I am almost always out in deep water. Mike snagged in outlet 3, BilletHead and dan hufferd 3
MrGiggles Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I might give it a shot. I've always used the alberto, which works fine and I have no trouble tying it. My only grip with it is that the tag end of the mono can snag in the spool or guides when you cast. Obviously a shorter leader fixes that, but I like them to be two rod lengths or so, otherwise you're down to a couple feet of line after a couple reties. dan hufferd 1 -Austin
gramps50 Posted June 12 Posted June 12 I’ve never even heard of that knot. Looks like it’s easy to tie. I use the Alberto, just haven’t been able to tie a FG knot that works. Tried several different methods. Just came across a video on how to tie the FG with slack line, have not tried it yet. I wonder how strong the Red Phillips would be? My guess is not as good as the FG because the fluoro is bent. I need to tie some braid to a mono backing. I’m going to try it. dan hufferd 1

Seth Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Tie the FG at home and if I break that leader off during a day of fishing then I'll retie with the Alberto knot. If I'm really being lazy or in a hurry I will go with a uni to uni. grizwilson and Lloyd 2
