aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 18 Posted October 18 I have a 1972 Evinrude 18hp and the other day I put it in reverse and now it is stuck in reverse. I took the lower off thinking it was the linkage but it wasn't. Is there anything simple I am missing. I drained the fluid and there was not any chunks of anything.
fishinwrench Posted October 18 Posted October 18 While the lower is off turn the driveshaft clockwise.....Push or Pull the shift rod to shift (F-N-R) . It will be kinda stiff....and that's ok. 👍 If it doesn't shift then there's a problem inside the gearcase. nomolites and snagged in outlet 3 2
fishinwrench Posted October 18 Posted October 18 The shift rod coupler is a common fail component. If it "lets go" of the shift rod, then it needs attention. snagged in outlet 3 and nomolites 2
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Yeah I tried turning the prop and working the shift rod and she's still stuck, Do you have any leads on a lower that would work for me? Its an old engine and all the screw on the bottom side of the lower are all different, so someone has obviously had it open at some point. Its been working great until now
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 Here is mine, its beat up a little but it is 50+ years old. I just need to get it going for the winter. Is it worth rebuilding? I will be coming through your neck of the woods at the end of the month snagged in outlet 3 1
