I’m looking to upgrade my electric knife. I have been crappie fishing more lately and harvesting a few crappie now and again. My old Mr Twister corded electric knife is 20 Plus years old. I won it in a tournament (door prize?) back in my Minden, La days so I can’t say that I haven’t gotten my money’s worth out of it. It’s still functional, but I would like better.

I keep a VERY low percentage of the fish I catch. Crappie are a delicious fish and I like to provide a meal for family and friends every so often.

Does anyone have real world experience with the Rapala or Bubba brands of rechargeable electric fillet knives? I think I have narrowed it down to those two brands.

Thanks in advance.

I have a bubba, have changed it to Mr. Twister blades. It works fine @BilletHead has a Rapala.   If I buy another it will be a Rapala as I have had the opportunity to compare both side by side on white bass and crappie. The Rapala is a bit faster.  my two cents

I have the Rapala and it works well, but I have also cleaned lots of fish with the Bubba…it has narrower blades, more choices, and they are sharp.  It is great and if you are proficient I might go that route because it has the better “kit”, but beware it can be unforgiving….I have watched folks who don’t clean many fish really struggle with it as it will cut through backbones PDQ.

That’s a bit of an issue. Most of the fish I clean will be crappie and they are relatively delicate. You have to have a stronger knife to fillet the more robust saltwater species, but crappie require more finesse.

I have the corded Bubba which works great, I also use my Mister Twister blades. Anymore lots of trucks have outlets in the bed so that is handy.  The last battery powered one I had was an old Replala before Lithium. And it was so gutless, I guess that why I stuck with the corded one

@HamIf you choose to go corded, I have a few corded, both 12v and 110 that I am sure you have something I can trade you for or give you.
