  1. You're in for a mind altering experience. You'll be shocked at how fun it is.
  2. John, for you Canada isn't a lot further away than Venice, La. And not even think about driving to Key West, Fla. Crazy to think about the years I lived in Monroe, La and because of the slow dawn of the Internet never met Plastic_worm and shared some adventures. Oh well, that probably kept me from getting divorced. I love reading about the trips you make and Lord willing, we will get after that this Fall.
  3. There are opportunities for fishing from shore or small boats and kayaks inshore. Easy fishing when The Mississippi River is low and pretty. I would check that before you went. yoy might not wear them out, but you should catch a few fish. Offshore would likely require a guide.
  4. Would be interesting to have a situation where we needed to harvest Brown trout on the White River
  5. I use the Alberto (mostly). It flies thru the guides without banging too hard. I have also used the uni to uni knot. It works, but bumps guides pretty hard on the way out. I have also played some with a three loop surgeons knot. It does pretty well. It is usually good enough. My knots have not failed on fish, but they do fail way too often when I get snagged and have to just pull. If you use a bigger leader than the main line, the main line will fail at the knot MOST of the time.
  6. Last spring, I saw couple of days were the 5 inch Senko on a shakey head caught MORE and bigger than a Ned head with a cut zinker. I know it's bordering on blasphemy, but it's the truth.
  7. Will the egg box fish do better at natural spawning than hatchery fish? Some of the OG fly fishing guys feel like the Browns would do better if we stopped using hatchery stock and just did egg boxes from "wild" fish. The egg raised fish would spawn better. Ideas?
  8. You need to be prepared to get flies down quickly and keep them down in high current.
  9. Holy Crap! I had one of those Castaway rods, but I have no idea what happened to it or where it would be at this point. I'm going to look for it. Maybe my Dad has it. I had forgotten all about it.
  10. I've used a lot of Big Game off and on, but I always felt like the higher test really coiled up in cooler weather. Maybe it had just been on the reel too long. Big Game is a another built in shock absorber. I always felt like the 15 lb was closer to 20 lb line and the 20 was closer to 25 lb. lots of stretch. Great stuff of square bills and spinnerbaits. I can see using it flipping and pitching especially if you aren't worried about feeling the strike like dead hands Dave.
  11. Awww Man that's just awful. You have my complete sympathy. I can barely imagine parts of what you must be going thru. I would have been completely lost if my wife had passed away when my children were that age. I still hope to exit this mortal coil before she does, but we are older now and things like that happen as you get the wrong side of 50. hang in there and ask your friends for help. I know your friends want to help, but they might not know how to help you. God Bless you going forward.
  12. Good Advice as usual from Griz
  13. Tantric?
  14. Noooooo, he modified existing musky Plugs to more manageable bass sized lures because he caught multiple extra large bass on plopper like baits so he knew fish would respond to it and dropped the size to encourage more bass to actually eat it.
  15. They crazy thing is that I have caught a fair number of Ozark bass in Norfork Lake, but NONE in BSL. Oddly, I can catch walleye in BSL but only one walleye ever in Norfork. I just need to fish more AND if things go well over the next couple of months, I vow to fish a lot more.
  16. That makes me smile
  17. I've fished BSL more than a little and I've NEVER caught an Ozark Bass in BSL. The creeks feeding BSL are full of Ozark Bass, but BSL itself is NOT full of Ozark Bass. but FWIW, I don't think I've ever caught mean mouth at BSL either.
  18. In general if you're not swimming it, less movement and less direct connection to the bait is more. Dead sticking it with controlled slack can be soooooooooo good.
  19. It's all good.
  20. There's a really nice forum for golfing stuff down below the hunting forums. Y'all might want to scroll down there and take a looksee. I actually love golf; I just love fishing more.
  21. That's a good start
  22. What he said. I'd die a bitter, lonely man if I tried to live like Super Dave does. I will fish the 18 th or 19th and I will fish the 24 th or the 25 th and likely you won't hear boo about it. sorry
  23. Nope
  24. You're certainly well equipped for the way you fish. You fish a softer tip rod than most to accommodate that MASSIVE hook set. For those that haven't see it, imagine Bo Jackson hitting a baseball as hard as he can. Dave sets the hook harder than that.
  25. If you're going to spend money to get a lighter blank and better guides, you might want a lighter reel as well. We all like what we like. Shimanos bind when wet. And Daiwas are heavy and slow. I've been buying Pfluegers lately. Last Arbor I got has big spool and is 8.5 oz vs 10.8 ounces for the Daiwa Lexa 3000 which I heard was on sale at Cabela's.
