  1. Hell I enjoy reading the posts. One-shot did you ever ride with a woman name Bonnie or a feller named Clyde? 😜
  2. I left the cover up on my raised cold frame to get the snow and moisture. If I think k about it I will close it and let it start warming up. Probably not gonna worry about getting it planted by Feb 14th like mom always did.

    What's Cooking?

Where you get that bologna from? My wife loves that sort of stuff.
  4. I will play for time with a locked door, hopefully anyone who is breaking in will make enough noise to wake me up. If the cops kick it in, hell they will have me caught or killed long before I get firearm. If a badger stays outside he can become the Sheriff's problem, if he tries to come through the door all bets are off.
  5. You didn't miss anything by not keeping the tails. Several years ago a buddy gave me some beaver tails, I blistered them in the grill to loosen the skin, pulled it off, seasoned it and served it as part of a wild game lunch. Nobody came back for seconds, basically pure fat and as it cooled it became the stickiest stuff around. The hindquarters and back straps should be delicious, seasoned and fried/steamed in a skillet like a squirrel, although beaver gravy does sound a bit odd.
  6. I bladed everything with the tractor, but there is a thick sheet of ice under the snow. I guess it switched from rain to snow pretty quickly and the first of the snow soaked up and became a layer of ice. The rest of the snow drifted so badly I can't tell how much we got. Headed to Springfield in a little bit for Dr. Appt. Will see how the roads are, I have plenty of time so not in a hurry. 4wd, new tires and a dozen concrete blocks in the bed, heck even a little oxygen tank in the passenger seat in case I get winded too badly.
  7. The problem with "data" at this point is that there is so much of it. And I out "data" in quotes because sometimes it takes a lot of research to figure out if the "data" is scientifically supported, if it is something repeated by a hundred people but not supported. I am quite happy to follow my doctors advice, so when he advised to get the vaccine (he had gotten it too) I did, when he says to wait 90 days after having had covid to get the booster I will. Get the shot or don't get the shots, up to everyone to make their choice. However I am completely against mandatory vaccinations, but that is me. I hope we are all still around in a few years to argue about it still. Good willing and the creeks don't rise as they say.
  8. Its a tough life when you are one on the tastiest critters in the briar patch, every thing wants to eat you if they can catch you.
  9. I will admit that I learned something, never knew muskrat ate mussels.
  10. If I can space 6 or so shots over the course if a day, with some fried fish and taters in between I might make it till dark. From what I understand covid is not truly airborne it does transmit through fine particles created by breathing, sneezing and coughing. There will be entire careers built on the studying of the vaccines and their effects over the next 30 years.
  11. I will pass on the cigarette smoke, but I am in for a test group on whiskey.
  12. My got the booster a few months ago, I was simply lazy and didn't go get mine. Didn't work out well for me, but wife didn't get it after being around me before I ended up in hospital. Dr. Said 90 days now before I go get the shot, and after that experience I will get the booster.
  13. Billethead, I am trying to remember the Mussel guy from MSUs name, Barnhart is what comes to mind, but not sure.
  14. If I remember correctly dad and I were wade fishing a creek and picked up a couple of big mussels. We also had a nice stringer of green sunfish, so while the fish were getting fried we popped open the mussels, rolled them in corn meal and they got fried too. Afterward we tossed them out to the dogs who chewed on them for a while and then just walked away. But the green sunfish (always called them black perch) were delicious!
  15. Tried to eat a mussel once, quite possibly the toughest thing I ever chewed on, but at least the flavor wasn't good.
  16. I am not much of a sports fan, but I did watch the game with some friends, one heck of a game for sure. Hard to imagine a better game.
  17. Watched a red tail hawk take a red squirrel once, he almost bit off more than he could chew. Was a he k of a commotion, but he did finally get it killed and up in the air with it. Was impressive to me.
  18. Hmm nothing shows up for me. Might just be my lack of technological skills.
  19. Dang, hadn't heard if that one. Rabbits around here don't seem to have had a decent population in quite a few years. But to be fair since I don't have beagles anymore and can't get around as well I don't get deep into the brush like I used to either. I always gauged the population by how many young ones I saw on the roads in early summer, been slim pickings for a long time now.
  20. Glad it hasn't been too bad. Get better.
  21. Pomme is not generally know as a big fish lake. However the last couple years it has been very good. Not sure what you are referencing as to the Bull Shoals comparison on 10 inchers, width, thickness etc. sometimes the better fish seem to group up on one pile or even one side of the pile. I have caught 10 inchers that I swear you could almost see through, moved to a different spot and different story. Sometimes a lot of difference between a 10 inch white crappie and a 10 inch black crappie. The blacks get wide for their length and are a lot thicker as a rule.
  22. I don't rush on planting tomatoes anymore. They don't like cold and will seem to stunt even if not frosted. So I don't plant them until mid May at earliest. Same for squash, cakes and cantaloupe. Lettuce, radish etc. If I am on my game (unlikely) will plant in the cold frame anywhere after Feb 14th. But the cold frame is still full of turnips that I haven't pulled yet, maybe I will get another few meals out of them first.
  23. This may sound un-American, but I am not huge fan of extra stuff (even bacon) on my burgers. Cheese, sliced onion, and some BBQ saucece. A burger that isn't structurally unsound is not worth eating.😁
  24. HOME SWEET HOME. As soon as I catch my breath I will eat my celebratory meal. Wendy's Dave's Double, because I wanted on that's why.
  25. Update. After 10 days I am supposed to get discharged thus afternoon. Will have some supplemental oxygen at home. I may not have been a paragon of health but it is quite a change to suddenly need some extra oxygen to go to the bathroom.
