  1. The crappie all drowned during the high water of 2019.
  2. He was indeed lucky. I suspect he needed some fiberglass work, some motor and transom work and some new underwear.
  3. The crappie shortage on lakes like LOZ and Truman is unbelievable. Heck you can't hardly catch a crappie on those heavily fished lakes anymore, unless you actually put a jig into water that is. 😂
  4. I got a little bit of the mood too. Got some lettuce, beets, spinach and radish planted. Gonna do the double tub planting for my maters and cukes again this year too. I just buy tomato plants from wherever happen to find ones I want. Cukes and squash usually get started from seed though. Strawberry bed cleaned out and lightly fertilized before the rains and they are liking life right now. Cleaned out another flower bed I built for my mom at least 25 years ago. The old wod edging is gonna go away and it will get smaller and have concrete retaining blocks. The trellis that never had anything growing on it except for some morning glories mom liked, is getting a couole if climbing roses and most of the rest of the bed will get dug up and replanted in the new one. Mostly Iris varieties on one side and a bunch of daffodils I collected a couole years ago for the other half. Since I can do more this year maybe I can work in a little more gardening with the much more iportant fishing plans.
  5. Pick them up and put out a sign, fresh worms and cold beer. Will be a millionaire soon.
  6. It should be impossible to chisel a smile off your face after a few days like that.
  7. That should help get LOZ back up to normal.
  8. Straight up LIES. The dad gum white population is taking over everything, tearing up crappie tackle, chasing off walleye and even now attacking and killing full grown muskie. It's getting dangerous to even swim there.
  9. Wow, if they are shocking up thatany the walleye population is doing very well. EVERYBODY go south to catch walleye and leave stockton, Pomme and Truman to those who are happy catching a few small ones.

    What's Cooking?

I believe it was a year ago today that I went on injured reserve and started down the path to a new shoulder and ruined my fishing year. So not being able to stand it any longer I went out wandering around yesterday evening and ran into a couple friends I haven't seen for a while, Jack and Wally. I invited them to supper tonight. Gonna try something a little different though, planning on tossing their sides onto the cast iron griddle plate on my grill, hoping I can get a little crust but not burn them. Will hopefully post a pic of the results. Well got the plate a little to hot and darkened the butter, and was a bit light on the seasoning. But still pretty dang good.
  11. Dang it, the clear water early really let's the moss/algae grow early and fast. Which means when I start fishing for wally at Stockton I will have to fight that slimy crap, get too close to anything and boom slimed. Or . . Maybe the rain predictions are correct and it will get colored up and big.
  12. They aint bad . . . If they are fixed right. Couldn't resist.
  13. Dang even I am starting to feel guilty for picking on ya Oneshot. Nah just kidding.
  14. They are all delicious. I have even used RPS chowder recipe with white bass and topped it with a crispy fried walleye fillet. Mmmmmm good
  15. Ah heck if we didn't pick ya we would have to pick on someone like Fishinwrench.
  16. LOL he may have been on the crew that dug the rivers.
  17. Sawsall, then pull the nails and finally you have some rough, crappy, thin, Lumber to play with.
  18. I will stick to walleye, crappie, bluegill and white bass. I have no desire to eat a creek chub or other minners. But why all the hate for sardines? I love them, and Vienna sausages, and pickled pigs feet. The best thing about pigs feet is your buddies won sneak it out and eat it behind your back.
  19. Gorgeous flathead, the second pic really emphasizes why the name too.
  20. White bass that size really argue about being caught. Dang it now I got to start making evening runs to bank fish some where, was thinking with the cold water I had a couple weeks yet.
  21. Or shoot a few and hang them on the fence like everybody used to do with coyotes. They will get the message and you probably will get free coffee at the gas station if you eliminate a few theft happy dopers.
  22. I doubt my shoulder would survive paddling, but I aint that far away that I couldn't help shuttle you if I am available.
  23. Slap a sharkbite fitting on that thing and save your money for fishing tackle.
  24. Most little flathead I have seen were very splotchy but the head shape was unmistakable. Litthe channels (fiddlers or croakers) arw the finger and hand stabbing-est critters that swim. Used to help raise them and they can fold their pectoral fins back to get ya with the serrations on them. Bigger channels can't move theirs. Used to laugh at the idea if rubbing a cut spot on their bellies, our hands would get so sore and swollen from getting the little turds out of nets we could hardly make a fist. Then out of desperation I started rubbing every new cut on their slimy bellies, and by golly it did work. Them old timers knew a thing or two. I can't remember the last time I caught a bullhead. We would catch them.occasionally while crappie fishing, and kept them to stock a tiny little pond with, dad would feed them floating catfish food every day, and if he ever wanted to eat fresh fish it took longer to clean them than catch a mess.
  25. Pallet boards are poor grade lumber. Pick up a couple sheets of T 111 or something similar (cheaper) and cut to fit.
