    What's Cooking?

When I was a kid I think I lived for a while on warm baloney and miracle whip sandwiches, don't like either one now. But wife loves them, so that is sufficient.

    What's Cooking?

While out on a one armed foray I stopped at a small market that is known for having a great meat counter. Asked which bologna they had was the best, no hesitation they selected one of the two choices they had. I asked for a half dozen thick, 1/4 inch or better, slices for my wife. She likes to fry the stuff, 6 slices were 1.25 lbs, couldn't being myself to take a photo of boloney, but she was sure excited.
  3. Well that is silly, you shouldn't oil triggers, they should be clean, dry and smooth. I have never needed to hug my AR or any firearm, they seem to be like cats, quite content to be ignored with the occasional pat on the head and regular feeding.
  4. Governments basic MO is to attempt.to undermine, subvert or more often use the constitution to benefit their ends. Nothing new.
  5. I used to live in Forsyth and.fished Swan Creek a lot, with Bull Shoals as high as it is I doubt they catch nigh smallies to be worthwile, however their population has improved since I was there so, maybe. I truly hate to see it happen. I have never seen an MDC issued fishing tournament permit didn't even think they issued one.

    What's Cooking?

Been hectic here for a while, surgery, infusions blah blah blah, plus mom passing away. Wife on a much needed day trip with friends to a bakery or something in North MO. What does a one armed hillbilly make for lunch in such a situation. Well depends on what you find in the pantry and fridge. Turns out it is Kraft shells and chesee with some extra hal and half and asiago cheese, along with some leftover rotisserie chicken. Looks like a dogs breakfast and I am sure she would love it, but tastes good. Will do.better Sunday, we are back to Sunday dinners with friends and it will be out turn to cook. Have a nice ham to baste with frozen orange juice concentrate and put n in smoker, wife will make a big pasta salad with rotini, black olives, tomatoes, green onions, artichoke hearts and who knows what else with plenty of olive Garden creamy Italian dressing, and probably some fresh sliced strawberries. Will try to get pics of that one so it can get this one out of your brains.
  7. You don't have to take them fishing if you don't want to. Simply shown th2m your bad arm and pay them and haul the boat home if it's what you want. Then we can go fishing.
  8. Maters are absolutely loving this weather, I only have a few but they are really growing now with warmer weather. Second crop of lettuce is pickable but getting ignored in favor of strawberries. Sizes are trending down to what we used to call jam berries, same great flavor just smaller. Looks like I will be stemming and processing some tomorrow if the recliner doesn't call my name too loudly. Two days of IV infusions have l taken the top off of my energy level. But sliced and sugared berries will put it right back, and the rest into another batch of jam.
  9. If you are there around dark don't hesitate to hit a few of those point throwing up shallow between the bushes with the ole flicker shad or a swim bait. A little wind is better but sometimes things with big eyes and teeth live up there.
  10. I freely admit I like shooting. I am forever swapping scopes around, buy a better one for a particular rifle and it has a cascade effect upon other rifles and scopes. Ain't nothing wrong with it I can shoot on my own property so it isn't a big thing for me.
  11. I remember seeing it when it was nothing more than a bump in the flow.from Taney to Bull, back when they had removed the boards seems like 90 or 91 maybe. There would certainly be possibility for it to happen, and yeah I bet they would grow like hogs in there.
  12. Wife and sister and busily picking strawberries and cherries and turning them into freezer jam. 2 batches of strawberry jam and one of "cherry berry", and sister went back to pick enough cherries to make a pie. I am allowed to pick the strawberries along the edge of the raised bed but that is about all I am allowed to do for now.
  13. Mine are just getting started, picking every day, last couple have ben 1 to 2 qts and haven't made jam yet, juse stemming , slicing and a little sugar. Sure are tasty!!
  14. They still have them near me. I seldom buy any because i much prefer pork steaks.
  15. I have used their livers. The guts ought to work just fine.
  16. Basically all dams leak. The key is controlling it and directing it. All th COE Dams underwent recalculations of the maximum probable flood events based on modern records of rainfall. As a result many were determined to be lacking in height and mass. They were classified into categories ranked for priority of repairs. The high priority ones are being raised, enlarged, strengthened etc. The costs are very high.

    What's Cooking?

I am that way with mexcan, love tex-me but pit a bowl of menudo in front of me and while I love th broth them chunks of tripe just won't go down. My dad always laughed when we said we wanted Mexican food, no you don't he would say, you want the American Mexican food.
  20. Use treated Lumber or be prepared to rebuild it later. Be sure to use the correct screws as the newer treated Lumber will literally eat plain screws. Think the good stuff is either double dipped galvanized or ones specced for treated lumber. Nails suck, I don't even use the hanger nails for joist hangers.
  21. So far up in Polk County I have only gotten and 1.5 inches of rain today, know it was worse to the south. Hope it quits eventually, these continual series of storms just keep coming, not much anyone can do about it though.
  22. It would have to be a situation where literally they thought if they don't open that auxiliary spillway they would lose the dam. (Think impending failure of Beaver dam), simply to prevent a failure and massive short term flood and subsequent massive loss of property and life, including loss of electrical switch yard.. I know of no other spillway ever designed and placed in a location that would do so much damage, so if it is ever used it will be a major deal. Considering, planning, writing specs and calculating flows etc. Are a different thing from making the call to actually open it.
  23. I would call it a smallie but then I am not much of a judge of meanies. Color is a bit different though.
  24. If there are sufficient number of bears to support a very limited hunt then I see no reason not to hunt them. I suspect it would be very restricted in locaruins and numbers.
  25. There is a level, top of the gates, that they will not allow the water level to exceed, as you mentioned it has to do with rotting the components. The only way the lake can rise with the gates open further is for there to be more inflow that outflow. I haven't read the TR corolla plan so o am not familiar with the actual numbers but they won't let it go over the top of the gates. If memory serves they could pass over 500,000 CFS with the gates full open, that morw than the normal flow of the Mississupport at StL, so they have the ability to send a LOT of water down the White River, don't think we will see that kind of flow unless it is the absolute worst of circumstances, at least let's hope not, Taneycomo would be BIG and a lot of houses would be wet.
