Looks beautiful and great fish. I've never actually fished outside the park. Is it really that wadeable?

It was very quiet this Veteran's Day. I arrived about 1:30 and fished till the siren. Zebra midges were the go-to today. Worked like a charm. I pulled about a dozen to hand, some in the 12-14" range. All of them pretty good fighters. I tried wooly buggers, but no luck. Lots of follows, but no bites. Dry fly action wasn't happening for me either. I found that 7x was required today. They just weren't hitting on 6x tippet, but when I sized down, then action was on. I stayed in zone 1. Can anyone tell me if you are allowed to wade in zone 2 during c/r season?

Winter Fishing Seminars In Springfield
Jack Jones replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
I'd definitely be interested in a seminar on canoeing/camping the rivers. What about a seminar on kayak/canoe fishing? -
A Serious, Non Political, Question - Wooly Worms
Jack Jones replied to Jerry Rapp's topic in General Angling Discussion
I moved out of CT at age 25 hoping to avoid the winters. Had I not met my wife, I may have ended up further south where a cold winter is 50 degrees. Due to circumstance I'm here. And I appreciate the mild winters. So please, don't curse us! If I wanted feet of snow and 10 degrees or less I'd move home, lol!!!! VIVA LOS CALOR!!!!! -
Midges are great. 18-22 size zebras. I also do well on cracklebacks near the dam.

I haven't had the chance to be there in a while but I find it true and funny how an improvement in the weather brings the people, if not the fish.

Having lived in STL for 4 yrs and still visiting due to my wife's family (all STL all the time) I have total respect for the Cards as an organization. They do a great job and are awesome with the community. Were they playing the Tigers, I'd route for them. But sadly, as a native New Englander, I have to go with the home team and say GO BO SOX!!!!

When I see then jumping like that I usually throw on a crackleback. It manages to catch a few of the jumpers if I strip it near the surface. Suprised 6x was breaking off. I never go to 7x because it always snaps. I guess with the colder weather and such it's time to move up to 5x.

It's Official: My Phone Is Making Me Mad ... And Sick
Jack Jones replied to ness's topic in General Angling Discussion
Ness....I just upgraded last night. There is a learning curve. Look up online on how to turn off the most annoying features. You can kill the parallax view. Also, on the calender, if you hold the search function you will find the list view there. It's still there. On messaging, to delete conversations, just hold on of the messages and then you can choose to delete some or all. I spent some time looking up how to tweak to turn off battery draining issues and how to tweak annoying functions. Honestly, I like the design. It just took some time to learn. -

Still plowing through "The Wilderness Warrior". About 200 pages from the end. Reading another Detective Erlendur novel Also, reading a book called "The Disappearing Spoon", about the periodic table of elements. Almost a history of elements And, "The Jesuit's Guide to Almost Everything" (as the Spirit moves me)

+1 for Feather DE blades I use a Parker, myself. I had a Merkur, but dropped it and the center screw snapped. I like the Parker better anyway. For those into such thing: www.badgerandblade.com

It's not easy. When my wife was away at school and work I was more successful at forcing fish and veg on the kids. These days red meat is a once a month thing (not including McDonalds a few times a month). Counting calories is big. I'd say the more fish, veg diet has helped. I dropped 25 lbs. No soda anymore. Cereal in the a.m. With almond milk (allergy reasons) and no sausage. It's all a process to change the diet but once you feel it, it's hard to go back. These days I can't see myself eating. 8 oz sirloin like I used to.

Finally we are nearing the end of the month. Finally, my beloved spouse will be leaving her part time job, and the full time job will be it. Monday through Friday too. I will have my weekends back (mostly)....Even though I detest crowds, and would normally not go out on Labor Day weekend, I may just have to wander somewhere wet, and fish-filled, that Monday with my Pack and paddle a bit. It's been a long Spring/Summer, but hopefully, I'll be back in action for the fall.

It's like all things. Everyone has a boss to impress. As a prosecutor, you impress your boss by getting convictions. And, as with any job, folks take shortcuts. It's not right, and it's bad, but it happens. Google all the issues the Brooklyn DA is having lately. What happened to this girl was a horrible tragedy. If convicted upon competent evidence, this man should be punished severely. As a Catholic, I cannot condone the death penalty, but I would like to see him incarcerated.

Help A Family If You Can
Jack Jones replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Joe, they may be lying. Who knows? They don't appear to be asking for money or even replacement gear. From what I read, just help in maybe recovering their stuff. I don't have a small pair of waders or I'd consider donating. If the folks on this board all chipped a dollar, we could probably get the kid a good pair. I'd be wiling to pony up a buck and take the risk that I'm being scammed. I'm sure I spend more money for less worthy reasons almost daily. -
The rain must have me bored. It's like fishing Lancer. Just seeing if anyone takes the bait.......

Road Less Traveled - Hwy 50 Across Mo
Jack Jones replied to mic's topic in General Angling Discussion
I was at the Runge conservation area/nature center in Jeff City about 3 months ago. I didn't get to hike the trails then for two reasons: (1) it was snowing, and (2) I was dressed for work in a suit/tie. The building itself was very nice. Lots of taxidermy. There's a nature library there. I'd give it an hour of my time.. -
I feel ya wrench. Medicine is like anything else. It takes years to build experience and exposure to a wide variety to be able to distinguish. I suspect most don't get that.

Anyone Use Redbeard's Ranch On The Niangua?
Jack Jones replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
Personally I could care less about the nudity and the propositioning. I've taught my daughter to generally ignore that and trust her to not be too shocked. If they are ignorant enough to do that with me around then i figure they are too far gone to know what they are doing. Flipping over canoes and/or shooting with a water cannon has the potential to provoke a violent response in me. That's assaultive and unnecessary. That angers me. In the immortal words (edited) of the rapper T.I.: A n****** put his hands on me alright. Otherwise stand there talk s**t all night Plain and simple, I not into conflict and people can name call, cat call, or say what they want but there is never a call for tipping/water gunning anyone whose minding their own business. -
Fellows Fish Report
Jack Jones replied to Hunter91's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Appreciate the report. I don't fish there enough even though its not that far from me. Mostly because I here so little good. But yours gives me hope that come the fall when I have more time I may enjoy it.
