Were you using Livescope?

no trip to MT this year? My son was out around Missouri Breaks elk hunting and he said the number of geese and ducks was amazing

I'll mostly agree with @BilletHeadon our shooting. We shot a one that was too high, missed on a long but doeable. I had the best shot of the day. Shooting from a layout blind hitting a hen that was flying behind us.I just leaned way back and shot with the gun upside down.

we would be doing more eating than hunting

Managed areas all going to Red level Wednesday. No poor line draw. everyboody must be trying to draw for reservations because they are tough to get now. Hunted with @BilletHead on Mondat and he treated me to a sandwich that would rival yours. He'll have to tell you whats its called, I can't remember.

I found this one in Spring branch in 2015. He was flopping his wings funny and couldn't dive. Thought maybe he was wrapped in some line.I grabbed him from the water but I coudn't find anything wrong with him so I let him go. Just remember they will bite if you try to pet them.

i had one chase and peck at my swimbait this spring. When I first saw it I thought it was a BIG bass but quickly realized that wasn't the case😧

Annual Men's fall camping/fishing trip 2020
curtisce replied to Steve McBasser's topic in Stockton Lake
nothing better than camping and fishing a few days with friends -
Congrats, quite a variety.

looks like you had some nice ones. I went up wednesday afternoon,no wind , no fish. Also quite umcomfortable with 85 degree and not a bit of breeze.
-
i was looking on google earth to see what roads you would take to shuttle. I'd say $80 is cheap.
-
Have wanted to float that section, going hard to get a group together. Shuttling doesn't look easy unless you have someone willing to drop you off and pick up.
-
Foster stayed home. Excited to see skilets, one will probably stay at duck camp.

Recently someone started a thread on Bucket list SM destinations. The Sesquehana River was on it. I had heard about the New river back east but not the Sesquehana. Roll forward a few months, my son and his wife have their first baby. They live in NYC so getting to see them wasn't straight forward due to you know what. Baby was born in mid August but instead of rushing out there we waited till now and deccided to meet in the Poconos of eastern PA. Started researching and found we were within 2 hours of the Sesquehana so I looked at some websites for guides and picked a guide in the Harrisburg area which seemed the area for biggeer fish. My son and I drove down and met our guide Tom Mills on City Island right in the middle oof Harrisburg. He had called about a week before saying the water was very low and we would be limited where we could fish. He gave me the option of rescheduling or canceling but that wasn't much of an option for us. He runs a locally made river boat That is best described by it name Rockzilla. It has a thick flat bottom hull that has about a half inch of a plastic polymer sheet screwed to the bottom. This makes it easy to slipp over shallow rock ledges. The sesquehana is wide, probably 1/2 mile at least but shallow. Most places it ran 3-5 feet in the area we were in. There was a short dam below us that backed to water up some. when we ran upstream it quickly got shallow and the rocks stuck out of the water and we couldn't go higher. The bottom is a solid layer of sediment rock with some occasional loose rock. Not a lot of struture to target so we mostly threw Flukes and swimbaits hoping to find the fish that could be about anywhere. Had a tough morning boating ony 3 fish over about 4 hours. Later in the afternoon we either found a concentration of fish or they just turned on. Caught probably 10 with a few close to 3 #.Talking to the guide it seems as though the river is not as it was say 5 years ago. Number and size are down. Flathead cats which they call invasive have moved in from the river below and that may have something to do with it. can't call it a great day but we had a number of things going against us. Mostly the low water that severly limited where we could go. The lack of structure made it seem like we were just casting randomly but higher water would open up areas above where more structure existed. Unfortunately though I don't think it is what it use to be. Waters change over the years. Thelaead gude from this group has actually relocated his summer operations to the St. Lawerence river. https://www.susquehannasmallmouthguides.com Here's a link to their site Got to get one picture of our grandson in, Levi Robert The motor was a 200hp optimax powerhead turning a jet drive below. The boat had a tunnel hull andwater intake was situated uhp in the tunnnel. Here you can see the bottom structure

Sorry about the trailering accident. Did it slide off carpeted bunks? Saw it happen to a tracker aluminuim boat this spring. I lived up near there for a few years. It the only freshwater lake I have gotten seasick on. I was looking for accomadation up there this summer and didn't find a whole lot. Where did you stay?

i think you all have it all wrong they can be the best fish finders and fisherman around. I'm sure elite series would ban them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-24K6PtE6A

Too long a thread to comment much. Best advice just keep pedaling -
@BilletHead and I got into some hybrids on Spring river this year. I kept several. They were much better eating than WB. I wouldn't blame anyone for keeping their limit of them or stripers. Good Job. You say there's a fall bite. Perhaps you could educate me and Marty. Marty will probably bring a flimsy stick😆

Most of what I see is Floyd repeatedly saying please. A real dangerous man

You can't post a picture like that without some explaination. Is that a paddle wheel? Where's the gambling table?😆

Here is the last email I recieved from Andrew Branson, he is the Fisheries Progaram specialist for MDC Andrew Branson Tue, Jul 28, 11:56 AM (4 days ago) to me Hello Mr. Evenson, I’ve had a few more responses on your fish identification, and it looks like most are thinking it’s a river carpsucker. There are some key identification areas on the fish that cannot be seen from the picture, but river carpsucker is our best guess. Andrew

This thread was titled Fizzing but no one has described dooing it. 🤔 Anyway I was watching a saltwater fishing show and they had an interesting solution. They placed the fish on a weighted line which they would drop down andwhen it got to the proper depth it would release the fish.

Agreed, I first strarted thinking about a trip north when TR wasn't fishing real well and the heat was swelltering. Intally I was thinking Mille Lacs. Myt brother had this archery shoot oon Oahe so it seemed the easier choice. glad I went but maybe next time Mille Lacs.

This may not make the Bucket List for smallmouth destinations but It is still a interesting lake to fish. My brother live in SD and since things here were on the hot side I decided to go up with him to Lake Oahe. He had a bowhunter shoot over the weekend which I stretched into a week of fishing. This lake is big. 230 miles in lenght, 2-3 miles wide. we stayed in a very small area of the lake to fish and covered 15miles of water. BASS held a tournament in early july of 2018 so I watched the videos of that to get some ideas. The winner was running 60 miles each day one way to his spot which was 5 miles from our caampsite. Basic pattern was finese either a ned or dropshot. Long points that do'n relate to any kind of shoreline structure extend far out from the shore. we would be fishing 1/2 mile offshore in 10 fow which would drop off to 50fow. wind would help but at times overpowered us. my 50" shaft on the trolling motor was in and out of the water and running near max at times just to hold position. We'd either cast and retrieve or if we caught them on the graph a quick drop near the transducer yielded several fish. these wide bodied fish were fighters. Anything 16" and up once you got them to about 6' they would turn towards the bottom and and would not yield an inch despite how hard you pulled on them. Our best day we got on a point that was full of big fish. Our best 5 went 15# . Never had any competition for our spots. Often we see a boat on our spot as we apprached as as we would get closer we'd find that they were in deeper water "pulling bottom bouncers" seeking a limit of eater walleyes. A fun week despite a few days of wind that really punished us. If I went back I might bring some gear and try for some walleyes just for variety.

HABITAT AND CONSERVATION The highfin carpsucker is rare in Missouri and may have become rarer in recent decades. Most records for this fish are more than 50 years old. This fish prefers clearer waters and firmer bottoms than the river carpsucker. It is much less tolerant of turbidity and siltation than other carpsuckers. This intolerance probably explains its present restricted distribution in our state. This species has the curious habit of skimming along near the water’s surface with its dorsal fin and part of its back exposed, and it frequently jumps clear of the water. This from MDC website goes against it being a highfin. As I said earlier, I have fished the James for over 15 years. The water clarity in the lower section is good enoungh to identify fish type in 5 feet of water. I have never seen these fish till this year. There are schools ,10-20 fish, in the slower deeper water. Thy don't skim as it says here but I think when I see them they are already alerted to my presence and are in evasive manuevers.
