  1. Seth, there are no parking fees at Bennett or Montauk. I believe you can get an annual parking pass to Meramec...might save a couple of bucks if you visit often.
  2. If you have trouble loading a tandem canoe you won't be happy with any of the popular fishing kayaks. They are pigs to load on a racks. but easy to load in a pickup bed.
  3. You don't see many boats above the 28 bridge...plenty of good public access downstream... Bell Chute, Pointers Creek, Paydown, or Rollins Ferry.
  4. Thinking big brown too...Largemouth tend to jump in the boat...Brown trout have more stamina.
  5. The chart is deceptive...The ability to perceive colors goes away the deeper you get but the ability to view the object does not go away.
  6. It's never going to happen so no need to get your knickers in a twist.
  7. Great report...Its always fun to creek boat! Glad you like your new rig.
  8. Always buy or build up on the hill. Its silly to see the billions that went into retail development in Chesterfield Valley since the flood of 1993. Lots of levy improvements, but you know its going to get flooded again sooner or later.

    Finally

Been a weird year...Haven't fished any big water this summer, but have had some fun floating the headwaters, and some rarely floatable creeks. Two weeks of stable flow would be nice.
  10. You can find better in less than a half hour in any direction. Don't waste your time with that place. It sucks, mostly.
  11. Thinking the 8" limit on Goggs is a done deal. Nobody objected, so that is gonna be the minimum next year.
  12. Dillo's aren't that hard to kill if out in the daylight with the wind in your face. Have wacked several with stick or canoe paddle. Hard at night w/o bullets.

    What's Cooking?

Not too picky about gin. Plymouth Navy & Hendricks are great but any you mentioned will do well in a g&t. Usually mix 1/3 gin 2/3rd tonic by eyeball. Fill cup with 1/2 ice, float cubes with booze, add tonic, 2 splashes bitters in a cocktail glass or other small cup, 4 in a solo cup. 1 lime wedge for small, 2 for big. Sip then adjust to your liking.

The one he orders is Cock n' Bull Ginger Beer. He is emphatic about it.

    What's Cooking?

Have a buddy that loves his Moscow Mules. Uses a particular brand of ginger beer that he mail orders but forget the brand. Tasty but I'd rather have a gin & tonic with lime and a couple splashes of Angostura bitters (Hemingway's recipe). Hendrick's gin preferred but any will do.
  16. Cook with some wild or dark colored rice with some herbs & seasons for a nice color contrast. Might taste like chicken if you use chicken stock instead of water( doesn't really).
  17. http://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/pale-chicken-woods Its the light pored variety of chicken of the woods and its a good edible.
  18. Surrender your man cards.
  19. That's a bummer...Was some of the best trout water on the planet. Thinking lower Madison if heading back.
  20. Owners have turned that place into an eyesore and a carnival. Views off the new decks are nice but not much sympathy. Ozark Hellbenders in the water too.
  21. Just a matter of time if the Z-mussels like their new home. Probably would be in most places if they liked it now, but they are not. That might change in 10, 20, 50, 100 years.
  22. Agree with you Ham. I don't get down there enough to have formed an opinion, though I'm generally in favor of the removal of obsolete dams.

    What's Cooking?

Think that a sweet wine would work better than a dry wine. Missouri Chardonnell or a German Riesling maybe. Both are pretty cheap.
  24. I like Bushmills as well. Usually bring some to flavor my campfire coffee.
  25. Not sure what it would do. The stripers get up there occassionally now and they seem to stay away from the better trout spots. Has anyone gutted a striped bass with a bunch of trout in its gullet on th NFOW. Think they feed on craws mostly and there are tons of them in the NFOW.
