  1. You are not required to answer questions. Only bad experience was down on the Castor. We were eating lunch and drinking a beer out of the trunk of my Mom’s Luxo Car (she was in FL for the month and my Jeep was in the shop) had a couple fly rods under the wipers. Agent in uniform asked us a few questions that we never really answered, but his ride along was standing behind us with his hand on his pistol the whole time. I was armed with a chunk of a deli sandwich and a cold beer. Hope that boot never made the cut.

    What's Cooking?

Looks like you are all having fun! Did not cook this but the best thing I’ve had in awhile. Pho Tai Chin from the local Vietnamese place. Rice noodles with brisket, rare beef, Thai basil, sprouts, jalapeños, and a bit of sriracha.
  3. Never resist a legit request. ID & insurance you betcha, why did you pull me over? They can’t search without a cause and speeding is not a cause to search.
  4. Guide in Canada would mark fish and if they were not active, he made a couple laps over the X to stir them up a bit.
  5. Look at Pot Brothers at Law on YouTube. Those guys have a great script for dealing with LEO’s, and they are entertaining.. STFU, be respectful, and you will probably walk.
  6. An Ozark County Judge? This will roll up the hill to a higher court, Our State legislature is a POS BTW. Farm Bureau bought and paid for. Do the McGibney’s want to go cafo pig/chicken farm or something? I don’t see any of their skin in the game, so no standing IMO.
  7. Press a regular old ball head in some smooth jaw pliers, or vice so it becomes a lopsided aspirin head. Usually fish 1/8 oz about 3.5” long. Tail is black zonker, body is large black chenille, the hair collar is black bear hair. Billy Westmoreland style. Add some flash if you want. Under the tail and at the collar for a trout jig in restricted water. Skip the tail, shorten the chenille body if you want some for use with a plastic trailer.
  8. You can’t separate a horse woman from her horses. Might be hot, but horse loving women are usually crazy. Fun for a time but not a good choice on the hot v crazy matrix.
  9. I’ve always found Horseback riding to be less comfortable than walking, but my daughters like to ride and take lessons a couple times a month. Not gonna buy a horse for sure. Great way to waste allot of time and money.
  10. Maybe we should write better posts!
  11. Friends lake in KS was great for 18”+ sauger. It got discovered by idle people during COVID and it’s 12” shorts mostly right now.
  12. Haven’t been up or down Suicide Hill in years. Have crawled up & down many times. There is a trail past cable to the east. You don’t have to go off the bluff face. Might have to pick your entry when you get to the bottom. The river shifts after every flood.
  13. You can wade for about 2.5 miles below Meramec Springs when the water is low (300 cfs at Steelville), or you could park free at Cardiac or Suicide and walk/wade up to the park and back. Long steep hike at Catdiac, short steep climb at Suicide. Try both. Easier to wade up then down. About an hour and a half one way. Used to drive from STL to fish it after work and drive home 3-4 times a week at times when the fishing was good. I was allot younger, and I don’t hate those fish as much anymore.
  14. Buddy of mine used to catch carp on the fly at Lakeside 370. Fish the channel, Use something that resemble floating bread.
  15. Thinking turkeys are in decline due to changes in ag practices over time. Pesticides, no till, etc. Still see lots of turkey in undeveloped areas. Not so much on Ag land. See plenty in the St Louis Suburbs. Saw a flock of 10-12 feeding in the SE clover loop at Lindbergh and Page the other day. See them often near the Bayer Campus.
  16. Longear don’t get that big. Any 6-8” is a good one. Have caught em to 9-10” on occasion. Won’t eat them, full of lead contaminants where I catch big ones. #2 Sneaky Pete is not too big for them. Usually have to go bigger to select for Smallmouth.
  17. Never learned much on a great day of fishing.
  18. Looks like you had fun! Hit those eddy’s on the back side of the islands and you can extend that trip to 2:15-2:30 or so.
  19. If you have any "Used" or "Unused" Jerry Jarosik flies....I'll take those off your hands. You don't want those cluttering up your basement. Humpy's, Beatles, Deer Hair bugs, etc. I'm down to less than a dozen.
  20. Looks like Dr. George. Send it to Tom Hargrove, he can send it too him. Photo is from Tan Vat Access, looking downstream.
  21. The ugly fly box gets donated to some fly fishing organizations every couple of years...Don't show to your friends though..Some of their flies might be in the box! That has happened before!
  22. If you want to get “Good” tie 100 and try to make them all the same. Rarely tie under 2 dozen, and tend to pitch the first few into the Grave Yard (cigar box full of ugly flies I never want to see again).
  23. If it takes 15 minutes to tie, it’s not one I’d tie these days. Did some classic Salmon flies years ago, 3-4 hours each, and a month or more to source and get the materials. It is just winding thread clockwise mostly.
  24. Remington is going down the tubes. Sad really. Bennelli or a Franchi, or a Berretta if you want a gas gun.
  25. Just buy a SBE3, and get on with it. Mine has performed perfectly with light loads from day 1.
