What it's like to be retired during Covid
fishinwrench replied to Terrierman's topic in General Chat
My prediction:. Once this upcoming election is over, and the results are "in the books", this entire COVID panic will steadily begin to fade away. By Black Friday all of it will have been forgotten. .....and they lived happily ever after. -
Lake O was 61-63° during the cold drizzle and borderline sleet yesterday. You guys at TR should have 65° I would think.

And fact check the answers you are given.

A fact that becomes abundantly clear the moment that I turn from my lake rd. onto the highway. -
What it's like to be retired during Covid

That sounds lovely.....if you enjoy driving during the deer rutting season, and dealing with traffic. Personally I'd rather be on the loosing end of a prison fight, since the outcome of solitary confinement is what I have to look forward to at the end of the day. -
What are you listening to?

Here's one for your feels. -
Oh well then....Help yourself. If she's anything like my wife, be assured she'll never miss them. 🙄

Amen brother! 🤟 My will to live is 100% dependent on what I have to live for.

Well I fished all day yesterday, and I can tell you that being at home, all warm & dry, in my pajamas sipping whiskey.....is living the GOOD LIFE. Yeah I caught fish.... but who freakin' cares!!! Those fish would have gladly waited for a nicer day.....cuz fish are cool like that. 😊 -
I'm still nervous about Lithium based batteries in boats. The initial inception of them was not a positive experience for everyone. Every boat that comes in here is a ticking time-bomb, I never know what someone before me has done.....and boy-oh-boy have I ever had some dandy's. Some days I feel lucky to still be alive. Not exaggerating one bit. 🤞 People don't take this stuff serious enough! I guess it takes being out in the middle of a lake during January, in a boat that is on fire.....to pound that point home. There's a reason why boat mechanics get paid "the big bucks". This ain't anything like wiring up a stereo in a Vega. 🙄

Wheel bearing grease, electrical tape, or silicone spray. Pick the one that suits the application....and your mood at the time.

Crappie don’t belong in ponds ?
fishinwrench replied to Hog Wally's topic in General Angling Discussion
Fish populations in all bodies of water go through cycles. Fishing pressure, unless it is really high, is only one of the many factors. I have seen alot of ponds and strip pits where everyone started taking (or throwing up on the bank) all the small "stunted" fish in an effort to improve the fishery, and I've never seen that actually be any more effective than just leaving it alone for 3-4 years. There were 14 strip pits and numerous farm ponds where I grew up. Most had only moderate pressure from anglers, and quite a few had little to no pressure. Each year only a few would really shine, and never was one a noticable hotspot for more than 2 consecutive years. The same seems to hold true for the different arms of the big lake that I live on now. -
I get them in on trade deals all the time, but there are 1500 different pedestal/base/seat mount configurations......so they just end up in a giant pile that I have to weed-eat around. To hell with it. They go to the aluminum recycling center 3 times per year. I'm not running a dang salvage yard around here.

That's one thing about my biz that I can't complain about. Guys will happily pay to have their boat fixed before they'll pay their child support or utility bill. I've only been stiffed twice in 26 years...and one of those times I ended up owning the boat, so I actually came out even fatter in the end....it just took a year and a half to get handed a check. A couple months ago I handed my lovely wife a stack of work orders to go make copies of. She comes back, holding one of them up, and says "286 dollars, Glen? Seriously? It only took you 15 minutes....You should be ashamed of yourself".🙄 I said, You just spent 800-and-some on Amazon in less than FIVE minutes.....How ASHAMED are YOU?

I can't get them any cheaper than he can order them himself. Seats and pedastals are the first things I throw away when I get a new boat. I can't sit down and fish, and nobody wants to see me dancing with a pole on the front of any boat.

Oh Yay! Now we've got a Chevy/Ford debate going on. Let me go change shirts and put my boots on.

I actually don't think that them living most of their lives in Omaha had anything to do with it. They just have an unbelievable ability to point out...and dwell on... the negative aspect of everything. It kinda works out to our benefit to be honest... because I haven't had to buy a coffee maker, BBQ grill, wheel barrow, sewing machine, deep fryer, printer, and numerous other high dollar items for YEARS, because they buy it....get pissy about it....then give it to us because they hate it for one stupid reason or another. 😎👍

I have some Mitch Field heads, and I love them for tickling along in the rocks.... but the weedguard still can't quite handle repeated kisses off of dock cables and angle iron. Once the little dab of hot-dip-paint gets peeled off the top of the wire, then the weedguard starts coming "unfurled". Definitely not knocking them....I love them! (and could use a few dozen more BTW😁) Just making the point that nothing on the market holds up to dock fishing like the stupid nylon paintbrush weedguards....which can be trimmed and tuned.

Yeah you read it right. Doesn't add up. Maintaining higher voltage should PROLONG the life of a trolling motor, not degrade it. The cause of most all premature TM failure is running it on low voltage....not HIGH voltage. Low voltage creates excess heat and bakes the brushes and windings. Maintaining higher voltage SHOULD prolong the life of the brushes and windings. Either they are full of BS, or there's a voltage verses amperage issue involved that we aren't talking about/or taking into consideration.

Something to know regarding Lithium ion batteries... Damage to lithium-ion batteries can occur when the batteries themselves or the environment around the batteries is below freezing (32°F) during charging. Charging in temperatures below freezing can lead to permanent metallic lithium buildup (i.e., plating) on the anode, increasing the risk for failure. Charging a device or battery without following manufacturer’s instructions may cause damage to rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. For example, some manufacturer-authorized chargers will cycle the power to the battery on and off before it is fully charged to avoid overcharging. Since ultra-fast chargers may not cycle power, do not use them unless the manufacturer’s instructions include them as an option. Heat released during cell failure can damage nearby cells, releasing more heat in a chain reaction known as a thermal runaway. The high energy density in lithium batteries makes them more susceptible to these reactions. Depending on the battery chemistry, size, design, component types, and amount of energy stored in the lithium cell, lithium cell failures can result in chemical and/or combustion reactions, which can also result in heat releases and/or over-pressurization.

My in-laws are annoying and American. From Omaha. They piss/moan and whine about everything. No restaurant, gas station, or brand of cookie can possibly meet their high standards. They've been shopping for a new truck lately, so if you're a car dealer/salesman in mid-Missouri....you have my sympathy....Allow me to pour you a drink. 🙄

RIO's "Big Nasty" lines (sinking head followed by a 15' intermediate section) I initially thought, were going to be awesome. But I find them totally unmanageable and a PIA. I can do everything that line is capable of doing with nothing more than a modified (cut down) 10' sinking leader. With far less fumbling and cussing.

Get your youngest kid to translate....the effect will be even better !

I could fix all of that in a single afternoon. The next time you look up and the old man is sitting there staring at you, tell him the dirtiest, most foul joke that you know. Then say "Your turn", and stare back at him while you wait for him to come up with one. If his joke is not a genuine side-splitter then tell him to go peel carrots.
