  1. If you find a GPS tracker on your boat, don't worry about it...
  2. Keep an eye on those chargers if you leave them hooked to the batteries. Some of them will draw power when not plugged in. A scotch brite pad and soapy water will do wonders for cleaning the scum off of that factory matte paint.
  3. Pomme is a lot smaller, rises quicker and more severely than Stockton. Not sure about rainfall amounts but that may have played a part too. I haven't been in a week, but you can usually find clear(er) water from Wheatland on up to the dam.
  4. Could be the tires too. A lot of half tons come with P rated car tires. Swap them for real truck tires, LTs with E load range, and pump them up hard (50-60 psi). Makes a big difference.
  5. My Silverado has 3:42s and tows fine. Had it loaded to ~5k or so and pulled it around KC, wasn't a rocket ship but never felt like I needed more gear. These new gazillion speed automatics are shifting all the time anyway. Rear end ratio has a lot less importance now than it did when 4 speeds were the standard.
  6. Not sure how anyone can defend them with the trainwreck that was the Triton engine. There was whole spark plug debacle and the slew of timing chain/cam phaser problems. Great trucks, if you can keep the engine going. Glad to see them going back to basics with the big 7.3 gasser that looks like something straight out of GMs LS design playbook. Work trucks don't need overhead cams, never have. Ford seemed to have an obsession with them, caused a lot of problems in the 4.0 V6 (with a timing chain in the back of the engine) and the cam phaser issue I mentioned earlier.
  7. Not really, there's a little here and there, but it's more about what goes into diagnosing and repairing a modern vehicle than it is Ford vs. Chevy. Scotty can pretty much be summed up with 94 Celica good, everything else bad.
  8. He's a little bit of a knucklehead. I'm not convinced that his knowledge has been relevant for 30 or more years. He used to have a video of repairing brake lines with compression fittings, that's a big time no-no. I think even he knows it, and has dumbed down his videos to milk that Youtube money and appeal to the masses, instead of offering useful information. You want to learn something, check out South Main Auto.
  9. They are moving shallow now. Caught 6 last nice, all less than 5ft. Be warned, the lake is a madhouse right now. Parking lot at Wheatland was full yesterday. Evidently someone's truck was broken into at the ramp, the police were there. Someone apparently forgot to turn at the first curve going into Wheatland park too, so there was a rollback dragging it out of the trees. It was a circus.
  10. Saw it on Facebook. I suspect it may be at the Marina ramp and not the COE areas.
  11. Hate it when those stupid slimy critters bite when you're just trying to wash a hook.
  12. I went Wheatland this afternoon. Took a while to find them, but I did get a few for dinner. 21ft, 54 degrees. Water is way down from the last time I went. Surprising for this time of year.
  13. Swapping the plugs made all the difference. No more missing and stalling. It still idles a little rough but that may be normal for these. It's still a little cranky and hard to start when cold, I'm not totally sure that the choke is closing all the way, still need to look into that.
  14. Must've been the other "park", looks like the reverse lights are on to me.
  15. Looks like a new belt to me.
  16. Kind of inefficient to go from 12 volts, to 120 and back to 12. You could cut out the middle man and just run a set of jumper cables from the truck. Why not run the charger off a genny?
  17. 54 bridge towards El Dorado? Been there a couple times in the past but not recently. Floated it once further up from Caplinger to Blackjack (?), a buddy's bachelor party, although that trip was more about chugging beers than fishing. I have access to a few private ponds just a little ways away, those are my go-to for bank fishing, if public waters beat me up a little too bad and I want to cheat.
  18. Got another one too, a newer model, probably mid 60s. My great grandpa bought it new. I have aspirations to build a river boat and put it on that, but I don't know if that will ever happen. Don't know crap about fishing rivers. Missouri's stupid title law makes it hard to register these little motors. Hard to find them with paperwork.
  19. Got to run this sweet girl today. 57 model, nice shape. Just needed some fresh gas. Water pump even worked. Wish I had a boat to put it on.
  20. From what I have read UHD has more to do with side/down imaging sonar than Livescope. Screen resolution is the same between Plus and UHD units, the only difference is compatibility with the latest and greatest transducers, and as you said, there is only one Livescope unit, can't imagine it would make much, if any difference as far as that goes. My next graph will have Livescope capability, so maybe if it comes down in price a little in the next few years it will be attainable. That 93SV for 599.99 is tempting, don't know if I'll be able to hold onto that stimulus check for long.
  21. It costs more than I paid for my boat. Gonna be a while before I (and others I'm sure) can afford it.
  22. There is a rubber gasket but it appears to be higher up, between what Suzuki calls the engine holder and drive shaft housing. Am I correct in that it should not be bubbling out of the prop at idle, but instead venting through the smaller port just below the powerhead?
  23. Got another one for you Wrench. Been running this motor and it's been pretty trouble free. It's terribly cranky and aggravating at low speed though, carb adjustments help but have not made a huge difference. Once you get past 1/4 throttle it will run like a champ. Today it finally clicked that it has always bubbled exhaust out of the prop while idling and not out of the port further up the leg below the powerhead, like every motor I've ever seen did. I suspect mud daubers have it plugged. I've tried running a wire up through there, but the passage is pretty small and too curved to get very far. Any suggestions?
  24. That Crescent set is pretty good. It's a decent jack of all trades set. The wrenches are too short and fat for me, but they work. Check out Tekton. Great stuff. Harbor Freight is good and bad. Most of the Pittsburg Pro tools are pretty good. I really like the new Icon stuff, but it's pretty spendy. I've been upgrading my Pittsburg stuff to Icon as they break, they'll let you exchange if you pay the difference. Home Depot, Lowes, Pittsburg, and Craftsman are all pretty equal IMO. They're all imported, usually from Taiwan, although China is becoming more common. What bugs me the worst about most entry-level sets is that they skip sizes. If you do any work on domestic vehicles, 15 and 18mm are essential and often skipped. Tekton is good in that regard, their sets don't skip. I agree with Wrench, you'll get a lot better tools by buying them separately, without all the useless filler.
  25. I will not wear tennis shoes in the woods. Fescue seeds, burrs, and other and crap will get inside through the tongue and stick to your socks.. Drives me nuts. Same with sawdust. I wear Wellington style pull-on leather work boots (basically cowboy boots without the pointy toes and tall heels) 90% of the time. They're waterproof, and with your pant legs over them nothing can get inside. I also do a lot of torching/welding and they are mostly fire/spark proof. For the most part they are not bad in the summer, good socks, really, really help in that regard. I'm not a fan of laces either, that's another good thing about Wellingtons.
