  1. Now seems like a good time to say it again: Every big fish started out as a little fish.
  2. Agents can be super picky. I have a friend who got ticketed from a fed for having an improperly labeled duck in his freezer. Forget what it cost him, but it was not inconsequential.
  3. Weather =/= climate. Say that to yourself over and over.
  4. Just a guess but perhaps the White is warmer now than the tributaries and the bass have figured that out.
  5. You see more fiberglass trout boats running jets on the White River than you do props. But I have a 20x48 Shawnee Commissary Boat with a plywood floor in it running a 9.9 Yamaha prop. Rumor has it the motor has been rejetted to 15 specs but that's just a rumor. The boat is not lightweight. But nearly all of the White River boats have a lot of rocker to them and that really helps running shallow. I get where I want to go enough that I ditched the idea of upgrading to a jet. My boat will run speedwise very close to a 40/20 jet on a boat the same size. I've also used my boat to float the Eleven Point, James and Beaver Creek. I can't get up some of the shoals a jet can but other than that they are really close. A jackplate might make a little difference, but not a lot.
  6. I dunno. That guy doesn't look like he's 6'5" to me.
  7. It would be my honor.
  8. One of my fondest memories is of a float trip on the Gasconade a day it snowed 8 inches. Bad weather = good memories. Glad you got out and did well.
  9. You two deserve a day with each other. And I mean that in the very best way. Two real experts.
  10. I like that idea a lot.

    What's Cooking?

I did a pretty righteous tri tip yesterday. Fire only. Applewood smoked. It was real pretty when I sliced it - that just right dark pink and very juicy. Had Italian green beans and garlic mashed potatoes for sides. Threw two chicken breasts on the egg along with the tri tip. Thinking ahead for chicken pot pie tonight. Nobody ever criticizes my pictures.
  12. That is a very interesting read about how biologists waste their time and our money. Not. That kind of thing just fascinates me. Thanks for putting it up.
  13. Just beautiful man.
  14. Nice ones. Good job fellers!
  15. Beautiful fish.
  16. I was tempted to say smallmouth since they taste so good. But bluegill tops them all.
  17. You all did well! Good luck today. Guessing most will head home tonight ahead of the snow. Safe travels to all. I miss you guys!!
  18. Might as well just throw them on the bank.
  19. I don't know how to clean fish.
  20. My boat has a prop motor. Never had a problem fishing Buffalo City or Rim Shoal. That said, my boat is a 20/48 Shawnee and the motor is 9.9 Yamaha, it handles shallow water pretty good due to all the rocker and the smaller motor.
  21. One day driving to Jefferson City from Lake Ozark, I caught up with a station wagon full of kids and what I originally thought was a dog. Wrong. Station wagon full of kids and a goat.
  22. Wish you guys all the best. With any luck, one of you will catch a new Arkansas state record. We know it can be done!

    What's Cooking?

Ick. Should be angel hair. But man. Pan seared dove breasts. Yowsa.
  24. Frank is even bigger than Old Sam! I don't expect to read a more remarkable true fishing story again ever. Congratulations to all involved.
  25. When I was in the Philippines keeping you all safe, street vendors sold skewers of meat cooked over a hibachi. They sold it as monkey meat, but I always figured rats were probably easier to come by than monkeys. Regardless ,it was tasty. One day some little kid about twelve ran by and stuck one of those skewers in my leg just for meanness sake.
