    What's Cooking?

It's not nearly as miserable out today. So these will be grilled later. A summer classic for sure.

    What's Cooking?

A Chicken Enchilada Pasty from London Calling - which are really very good - and some cucumber and onion salad. An easy dinner with no outdoor cooking required in this heat.
  3. I am a fan of crawdads - once somebody else has already done the disassembly. Crabs same way.
  4. Yes, the condition had to be adversely affecting ability to do normal things. She was actually eligible for a couple of years before she decided to go ahead with the surgeries. I agree on medicare + a supplement is great coverage. When I worked for White River, management got everything the unions negotiated plus an annual $5K HSA contribution. It was a Cadillac deal too so I've been good for quite a while. Finally spent down the HSA account - it was really nice while it lasted.
  5. Fred's dead Jed. Cool story Daryk. Except for poor Fred.
  6. Canned carp is good. Carp croquettes.
  7. I love that part of the Current, been too long since I've been there. Maybe later this summer. Great post, thanks for putting it up.
  8. Medicare and the supplement (Anthem) paid 100% on Janet. Pete is right it's about $10K per eye. Janet still talks about how she still thinks she needs to take her contacts out before going to sleep. She is very very happy with her results.
  9. Being the beneficiary of a twice repaired back, two prosthetic knees, two prosthetic hips, one repaired 100% separation/torn rotater cuff and one kidney stone removed from my bladder, it's kind of hard to get me to badmouth modern medicine. I'd be an invalid instead of being able to ride a bike and walk 18 holes of golf. And being an invalid is the kind of thing that will kill you. You probably won't hear Janet doing so either, especially now that she has 20-20 vision in both eyes after cataract surgery. Which is better vision than she ever had as she started wearing glasses at age five.
  10. One relatively recent change for the better is permanent tags for trailers. They are the only way to go. Then no matter how many trailers you might have, you only need one license plate.🎯
  11. Maui Jim Ultra Thin Glass lenses are impact resistant.
  12. That plastic lenses scratch much easier than glass is an indisputable fact.
  13. Glass lenses if you want them to last is all I've got.
  14. Now let's talk about ramp Karma: 1. Watched a guy back his rig, in fiddle didle around, finally jump in the boat and the truck promptly followed him into the lake. I can still hear him him yelling "Get somebody! Get somebody!" 2. Griz and I watched a guy with a fancy new Topwater and new trailer run right over the trailer of the only other rig in the parking lot (besides us). I learned some new French words that day. 3. Watched some asian guy launch his boat and trailer too with the trailer still firmly fastened to the boat. Mirth ensues.
  15. Time to bring baseball bats and pick handles to the ramps! BTW, a pick handle is about $10. A bat is ... well, more.
  16. Wait....are those guys real?
  17. Yes, that was where he and his family lived most of his life.
  18. It is. We were best friends since the 7th grade. To the point that he came to my house to die. Which was rough for everybody but not as rough as it was for Butch. How do you know Butch?
  19. He was there just in case we caught somebody else checking our lines.😵
  20. Back to alternative methods for catfish on a big river. If you look at the first picture in my post, you'll see David is lying on a 4' gaff. When you're catfishing on the big rivers, there are fish there that is the best way to get them in the boat. And now and then, it's the only way. Wonder if MDC will share that little bit of information in their classes? I also wonder if they'll teach about throw lines. Which is how we always fished the Missouri. They are a lot easier and safer then trot lines. I have seen a lot of bank poles used and occasionally a limb line too. But we had plenty of fish caught with our system. Our target dates were the dark of the moon in June. Moon phase definitely makes a difference. Cleaning those big fish is easy but takes time. Filet first with a big electric filet, and then chunk them up in frying size pieces. Be 100% certain to get every last bit of red cut out and discarded. A rapala filet knife is great for that work. If's its not white its not right when it comes to catfish for the fryer. And that's not a guideline, it's a rule. Done that way, those big fish eat as good as any freshwater fish I've had.
  21. Nice ones Sir!
  22. I wouldn't know anything about catfish on a big river...
  23. I had great experience with Yamaha Pro 50 2 stroke and still have Yamaha 9.9 that's great too. Why lawnmowers get along great with 4 strokes and 2 stroke Lawn boy is not worth having is a question that I am sure wrench will fill us in on, Going back in time to the late 1970's, one of my duck hunting buddies had a 9.9 merc that if it ever started everybody around wanted to know what's that noise. Same time I had a newish 9.9 evinrude that was always a three pull first start and then one pull the rest of the day. Later I had an even older 6 HP johnson on my duck boat that was a never fail unit too, except for that one time we cracked the fuel line connector at the motor. Had to pump that bulb to keep it running then.😵 Which was no problem except for that one time during a gale on that one lake up in North Dakota when I died. Or at least thought we all might.
  24. Phils' flies. Simple = good.
  25. I guess I might have been referring to becoming involved in the legal system. Which suggests that absent getting caught and thereby entering the legal system, you are good with the law.
