Sounds like Forest Lake in Thousand Hills State Park. Used to have our annual end-of-school picnics there. Lots of Boone & Crockets records set near there too.

battery reversing polarity
bfishn replied to curtisce's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
My first boat just had a 12v Shakespeare tm, and I ran it flat dead many times. Was using a jump charger w/alligator clips. I must have got them crossed in the dark once, and it was still charging hard the next morning. It was still charging when I unhooked it to fish that evening. Decided to top it off with jumpers and my running pickup's battery at the lake while I roamed the bank looking for shad. Sparked pretty good, so I double checked the cables to ensure they were right before walking off. Happened to glance back... 'what a pretty sunset'... the front of my truck was in flames. Bait bucket water put it out, and aside from a melted grill, that old Datsun wasn't hurt. Later test revealed -8v. -

Fishing stories aren't lies. 🙄

I've been a "peace & love" guy my whole 63+ years. That said, I do have a short hate list... liars. Murderers, rapists, child molesters are all despicable criminals, but liars have a category all their own. Doesn't matter if you're the original liar or just sharing someone else's lie, (even if you believe it), you're a dirty stinking liar. It's exponentially worse when your lies hurt people. That leaves a burden on everyone to actively chase credible, objective information, and be prepared (and willing) to do a 180 if that information leads you there. Follow up the bibliography and source links to verify (then check them out) If that info isn't provided, it's BS. Quit pretending to know stuff you don't. Sometimes the way to be most helpful is knowing when to stfu. disclaimer.. that's just my opinion in general, not directed at anyone here.

February 2022 Ozark Anglers Crane Creek trip

Wiki sez, "more than 200 scientifically described species of obligate cavefish found on all continents, except Antarctica." This is one that's in your roaming range. -
February 2022 Ozark Anglers Crane Creek trip

Like Spavinaw in western Benton County. Trout thrive in the stretch near Gravette, then there's several losing sections west of Decatur, and more trout downstream near the OK line. -
PSA: Check your air pressure
bfishn replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Angling Discussion
Reminds me of (another) story. I grew up on a farm in NOMO, there was a farmers mechanic about a mile away in an old country schoolhouse. If Irv was working on something for you, you hung out there till it was done. The nearest farmer to Irv's shop was Glen, who had an old M Farmall, and was a few bricks shy of a load. One time at Irv's shop, Glen rolled in on his M needing air in a tire. One of the neighbors told him he was always needing air because it was old and stale, and needed changed. After that, Glen brought his M to Irv's shop to change the air in the tires every 6 months. Irv hated it because his old compressor ran for an hour each time, but whoever was there usually tipped him for the laughs. Added; Irv's shop was my childhood introduction to culture. He had dozens of pinup calendars on the walls. A ten cent pop machine that you opened the lid and slid your selection out thru the rack that held the 10oz bottles by the neck in chilled water. Mountain Dew... the real McCoy with cane sugar. Yoo-Hoo chocolate "milk", RC cola or Nehi strawberry. Big, open coal stove that glowed orange on cold days. Homemade welder built from a power company transformer. Only place around where cussing was allowed. -
I heard an old NPR interview where he said he was an actor acting like a singer. I'd have to agree. Nevertheless, he definitely had a hook. I didn't care for his stuff when released, but it grew on me.

In Iowa that's called pheasant hunting.

Just fish for walleye, you'll catch more stinkin' bass than you want.

Even if you wanted to, they won't hold still long enough to let you. I thought I'd fish one in a good flathead hole once, when it came time to bait up, I put on a green sunfish. Didn't have the heart to end that cool little squirmer's existence. Back in N Mo as a kid though, I used dozens of the much smaller and more abundant local variety and caught some real nice flatheads and blues with them on limblines. They maxed out at 5-7 inches and were black though.

I caught a nice mess of blues on shrimp... once. One time. Wasted a whole lot of money on shrimp after that and never had any more luck. Since you probably can't catch your own shad, stop at the bait shop for a jar of frozen shad guts, or sides if they don't have guts. Cheaper than bait shrimp and works many many times better.

Yeah, they're delicate when it comes to handling them, but hardy as anything else when left alone. The lofty stigma they have is simply folklore and wishful thinking, they're really just a glorified water chicken.

I agree. The only reason they use trout is purely logistic. Commercial trout production is perhaps the most predictable and well established form of aquaculture in the US, and hasn't changed a whole lot in 100 years. I learned the ropes from a 1950s hatchery manual given to me by the guy that built my facility in the 50s, EL Keith. You can buy eyed eggs shipped overnight any month of the year you choose, ready to incubate and hatch in a week. That allows you to produce the desired size when you need them. The oft-maligned pellet feed (Silver Cup, not Purina) gets LTL shipped whenever you want it, and offers the best feed conversion ratio of any commercial fish. Given a proper water supply, trout can be grown all 12 months a year under optimal conditions. The details have been worked out long ago, much like chickens, pigs and cattle. You simply can't do all that with bass, bluegill or bullheads.

Bella Vista, AR. When we split the sheets and closed up in '99, the developer CEO took the place for a personal residence, and closed the gate forever. Really, really cool place.
