  1. 240gr XTPs out of a .50 is what I use. Puts them down NOW. Super accurate from a sabot ..and that smoke.....ahhhh. Mike
  2. Blues and channels on LOZ will be where the shad are, often suspended over deep water. I catch loads of blues, including pigs up to 50# on crankbaits while trolling for walleye and hybrids. Mike
  3. I had a good stock but had to pick up a couple dozen pints and there was not a wide mouth jar to be had...and that was a few weeks go. Thankfully, I think I have enough to finish up. Mike
  4. Looks like a big’n too! I’ve only seen them farther south, but lots of critters are moving north. Mike
  5. FWIW I agree it is a waste, but some folks can’t be trusted which results in broad brush restrictions. Mike
  6. Nice fish! Last time down I had 8 shorts and no keepers - caught them on crank baits, bouncing, and spoons. You have to work at it but they are in there! Mike
  7. Home Furniture. Mizerany was “the decent boys”.
  8. So this motor has just primarily been idled...? Not likely. I’d bet you couldn’t maintain plane at less than 2300. Mike
  9. There are a lot more one boat incidents where boats are run aground at speed. Lots of people hurt and killed that way - I will never understand those, ever. The speed limit at night has probably saved many lives already...and I’m not real big on regulations, but that has been a pretty good one. More than once I’ve come cross someone I couldn’t see because they had no lights, either due to stupidity or mechanical failure. If I had been driving as fast as some do I would not have been able to avoid something bad. It ain’t worth it. Mike
  10. Hmmm. Sounds like the Clinton Foundation probably owns Evinrude. Mike
  11. I carry way too much, but rarely can’t shift gears to meet the situation. I often have folks in my boat sharing my gear so that is part of the reason, but mostly I am a tackle w——. I normally fish for walleye and stripers, some crappie and some bass form the boat. I can deploy six trolling rods(4 with OS planers) and carry 4 lead core and 4 10# braid; I also carry 6 spinning and 10 bait casting rods in addition to the trolling rods for various applications. I have 16 - 3710 boxes below deck as well as a half dozen smaller boxes in strategic places as well as 4 Special Mate crank bait boxes in the cockpit. It is REDICULOUS,. It won’t likely change. Mike
  12. Bummer. I’ve had my close calls with id10ts out there at night, and I’ll pass at this stage of my life. This is why - it only take a moment. Mike
  13. Yes sir, and I am only found on LOZ Sun eve - Fri am. Sat and Sun are for chores. Let them people have it... Mike
  14. Whites and hybrids are the poopingest fish in fresh water....after a good day catching the rig needs usually needs a good power washing. Mike
  15. The surfing is where they crank out the rollers - yes it is cool, but NO they are not courteous to others. There will be a whole lake open and they will come by me while fishing less than 50’ away. Gotta turn the nose into them and hold on. PITA. Plus, you gotta hear their version of music a long way out but at least you know they are coming. Cuz you gotta have it cranked up load so everyone can hear. Need to give them a map WAY up the Gravi and off my main lake points.... Mike
  16. It is that time, an LOZ summers eve...
  17. Smallmouth.....toad ...hybrid. Lol

  20. The catfisherpersons on the rivers up here use Daiichi sabiki rigs for skipjack and they work quite well from what I have seen. They may not be sporting, but I tossed one around below Bagnell just to try it and caught some of everything. Mike
  21. I catch a lot of good LM spooning for hybrids and walleye but I don’t work boat docks; the 5” spoons like the Lake Fork usually catch bigger fish for me but it may be more where than what - these fish are usually mixed in with hybrids on the feed. Mike
  22. Yep. Dry and hot here too, but we had 2 different soakers that both produced a bunch. Mike
  23. Yes, and you take them off once you reach them when playing in a fish. If a couple head shakes by a big fish don’t sling them off first... I have used in line sinkers as well ... usually when pulling shad for stripers on one of the AR lakes. Mike
  24. The guidelines I follow for calculating lead core sink rate: 5’ per color at 2mph 7’ per color at 1.5 mph 10’ per color at 1.0 mph add to that 1/2 of the dive curve depth for the lure you are using for the amount/type of line in the water. As Eyeman pointed out when you turn the inside lines will slow and sink faster and the outside lines will speed up and rise. This speed/depth change is often when You will get bit as it triggers a follower to strike so running shallow “S” curves is an often used tactic, just be aware a sharp turn will have the inside lines sinking rapidly and can lead to problems. ‘Smooth” turning makes life simpler and more trouble free. Just as speeding up will make the bait rise, if I mark good fish below the level I am trolling I can s l o w down and let my lines take the lures down to that range as I pass(within reason) and sometime pick those fish off. If is a very effective system, but as MG pointed out not very sporting with smaller fish. Hook up with a large hybrid, striper, or big blue cat and that lead line is unnoticeable. Mike
