Interesting - first I have seen that assertion. The problems you mention are certainly not new, I heard them first as a child 50+ years ago. While certainly areas where we need to continue to move in new directions I hadn’t heard they represent immediate threats to life expectancy for humans alive today. Now bombs, bullets, and bugs, those are another story. Mike

I am no expert(let me get that out of the way now), but from what I’ve seen it depends on how fast they are brought up, the temperature, and what species as well as how deep they were. I fish regularly in the 30-35 ft range and don’t see many issues; crappie seem to be most fragile, walleye are rarely an issue and the catfish species can take a licking and keep on ticking. Bass species are in between. Wintertime is usually no problem; warm water and deeper fish seems to increase the risk. Mike

It’s the clowns in the big boats that are often the source of the problem. Anderson Hollow didn’t have a source of E. coli other than macerators....pull them big boats off the lake and it is a much more beautiful place. Mike

I have only had deer drop in their tracks with a shoulder shot from my .50 Thompson pushing 245gr Hornady XTPs in a sabot. I love shooting deer with that thing, that is why I don’t get excited about taking a gun buck early. Would rather take with my bow or muzzleloader. Didn’t see any bucks worth the Partition last week, passed on another one last nite so I’ll be breaking out the bow again this weekend. Mike

I’m seeing a lot of deer, just very few mature bucks. I thinks they are busy..😉. I did arrow a real good one on the 8th so I have meat in the freezer - am hoping for a chance at another during gun season. If not, I’ll get the bow back out and take a doe if the big boys hole up. Mike

We used to bring a blinded 18’ jon, no motor(unless we could not get in wade in) and fill it with all the decoys and gear(after unloading from trailer)and walk it out, set up, and then hunt from the blind. Worked very well. Mike

I like that you are opting out on lead! To keep enough energy downrange over 40 yds with steel you need large shot, like BBB if you are hoping to drop a goose. For Turkey I would consider paying the big bucks for tungsten as one box will last you a few years and you will have much better and higher energy patterns at longer ranges with smaller shot than steel. I had trouble learning to shoot steel when it was introduced as I grew up with lead, but it is just as effective as long as you follow the guidelines on shot sizes and adjust wingshooting leads depending on range. It will also be much easier to dial in if all your wingshooting is done with steel. Mike

Sounds like a nice shotgun. Interesting on the ratings for steel on the extended tubes; I would think shot size needs to be “yuge” to be effective at those distances and honestly I don’t think you can make clean kills out that far with steel - especially when you need to be swinging a half mile in front of the bird. I’d be interested to hear if they live up to their hype. Mike
