This is true... 😀

It's a trolling motor issue. I can pull out and bring it someplace, but was hoping for a quicker approach, willing to pay a bit more for the convenience. thanks for the response.

I keep my boat on Taney. Are there any boat mechanics that offer a mobile service? Come to my dock perform maintenance or a fix an issue?

I fly fish Taney a bunch. With heavy flow, dead drifting a megaworm (mop chenille) on a jig hook can produce well in various colors, white, pink, salmon. Here's a link to some Taney patterns. https://flytyerworld.com/#/FlyboxTiles/5cbe1f011856f6e6000f6835

So, here's a pin to the location where you can park, walk down to creek.. fish up and down the creek, they are very spooky, recommend going down stream a ways, there's a trail and fish holes and riffles.. small midges (i.e. blood midge. zebra, etc.) with 6x tippet. This is the only place I've fished, someone else might have other locations. https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2%B055'29.3%22N+93%C2%B035'17.0%22W/@36.924816,-93.590244,628m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x87cf38082fab5c4d:0x79d0c3c641acf8c1!2sCrane,+MO+65633!3b1!8m2!3d36.9053361!4d-93.5715838!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d36.9248158!4d-93.58805

Another warm water species you can target on the fly and the region are Wipers (Hybrids between white bass and stripers) . They are pelagic so they move around the reservoirs, but lots of KS/Mo reservoirs stock them (Truman, Clinton, Northfork, ect.). They travel in schools and even though they can't reproduce they still have spawning behavior so in the spring you often find them in abundance off of dams that you can fish with a fly rod. When you get on them it's a blast, and they put up an awesome fight. In my opinion very much like some saltwater species. I fish for them with a 8wt. (6 or 7 will do) and sinking line or leader. Clousers or anything representing a shad. Of course a boat with electronics works the best, otherwise follow the birds or busting shad. They will mix white bass, and they can get very big quick, love catching them.

Lilley's Lake Taneycomo Fishing Report, December 10
dpitt replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Fished Saturday through Monday, drifted cable to narrows, this midge pattern/color (size 16/18) produced entire length. Hope it's ok that I commented on this here. -
I rented it from VUDU

Me too

If you get a chance watch the new documentary "Live the Stream" about Joe Humphreys. Fantastic movie, very cool guy, and they fish the Little Red in the movie. Don't have to be a fly angler to enjoy, great for the whole family. It's available on demand.

The flys that you are forever tying ?
dpitt replied to fishinwrench's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Ty these all the time fishing the white system. San Juan Worms, Scuds, ruby midges, zebra midges, double deceivers, chubby Chernobyl... For out West. pat's rubber legs, copper johns, pheasant tail nypmhs, sparkle midges Warm water - Clouser's, buggers Love tying the big articulated stuff, have more than I really need do it because it's fun. I never have enough small stuff, maybe I should use bigger tippet Oh yeah, don't do a ton a dry fly fishing in the midwest, but out west ty adams, griffiths, sulfer and mayfly pattern -
Wishing you a quick recovery
-
Makes sense, they where nice size too, thanks
-
Saw a couple of big browns cruising upon by the cable on river right, came back the next morning really early and threw fly rods with sink tip link and large articulated deceivers, no browns, but multiple crappie, white bass, kentucky bass, red eye's, and smallmouths, did they get sucked through the flood gates, or is the warmer water making them active? seemed like a bio mass of fish there, curios why?
-
Going to try this on the White soon, so see if it will entice some pre spawning browns. Rear Hook Size #4 Gamakastu front #1. Tail, Saddle Hackle Bodies tightly palmered grizzly hackle, Front shank lead wrapped to offset the grizzly Hackle Head, dumbell eyes with Lazer Dubbing.
-
Love the format of MLF, very impressed at how those guys almost always find lots of fish, the comebacks are fun to watch also.
-
Good info, and video is great, thanks!
-
Like it, what about trailing hook with the articulated shanks in front? rudder might help swimming and avoid short strikes.? Thanks for sharing, nice pattern

Drifted Cable to the Narrows Sunday with 4 flood gates and 4158 cfs, temps upper 60's to 70, water was a touch clouded, but pretty clear in some places, had lots of action. Rig was indicator to SG split shot about 8 feet with a point and dropper fly. Attached are images of bugs they liked, little mangled, fortunately fish mangled.

Added a world map to https://flytyerworld.com for fly tying video boxes. It organizes all of those youtube tying videos by body of water and species. Taney and the White are included. Also have a box for Christmas Island GT's, which is on my bucket list. Not sure how to get there though

It's SM wire and yes I segment after dubbing, the key is to use a thin wire or needle to pick the dubbing hairs out and keep them from getting trapped as you wrap forward...

Here's a scud Pattern I've found effective on Taney and the White... The Mustad "Little Brassie" size 14 hook gives it a nice "Shrimpy" look.
-
Here's a pattern I've been dead drifting at Taney and the White, and have . had good luck with, best if there is a little generation going on. The silver tinsel reflects the Grizzly hackle making it look really buggy in the water. 1. Size 12 Klinkhammer or Scud hook 2. Silver tinsel red thread 3. Natural Pine Squirrel 4. Grizzly Hackle Collar

boating...If i where wading I would throw a size 16 scud with the midge dropper, still use split shot, just adjust the indicator a little more shallow.. when I'm drifting with around a unit running, I'll fish indicator to split about 6-7 feet.. I keep this depth the entire run... I like the the split shot to be ticking along the bottom.. or floating the bugs close to the bottom.. when I'm moving across the shallow flats... the split ticking gives the bugs some natural action...you can see the indicator ticking, Takes are obvious, the indicator just jets away... on deeper water the indicator just dunks under water on an eat.
