  1. I have hunted snowshoes in PA back in early 90s. They used to have a two day season right after Xmas. We would see them up in the swamps and bogs in the mountains. Killed and ate only one. I would guess that it weighed 3 to 4 lbs. Rear feet were much longer than cotton tail or any domestic rabbit that I've seen. Tougher than a cotton tail and more game flavor. I should have kept a foot or two but didn't.
  2. @Hog Wally Congrats on some great smallies!

    What's Cooking?

looks delicious. How did you age it? just the breasts in the fridge? did you hang the bird?
  4. Oyster and mussel aquaculture doesn't typically have the pellet feed, antibiotics, poor crowded conditions, poor water quality associated with fish farming practices, especially from international suppliers. Though they can get shut down in terms of harvest/sales, if there is a large influx of freshwater due to flooding. That water may bring in more pesticides, fecal coliform, sewage, etc. into the bays where the farms are located. I like rope cultured mussels. They don't have sand 😉.
  5. Didn't do that with goggleye, but with fliers over the last couple of years 😉
  6. Les I agree with not wanting to eat tilapia. Store bought farm raised tasted like dog food to me. I have had fresh tilapia and it was decent. I also feel that farm raised catfish is a no go as well. If I can help it I try not to buy tiger shrimp or any farm raised shrimp. Sorry about the oyster deal. We have been getting into getting flights of oysters from different locations and there is a marked difference in flavors. Definitely have some favorites and some that we would not order again.
  7. For Shellfish my list: (I have not had king crab - imagine it as a better version of snow crabs; also no stone crab claws) maine lobster spiny lobster atlantic blue crabs - may be all headed out of the chesapeake on their way to Maine Gulf shrimp / Snow crabs / Surf clam sushi streamed mussels / Steamed clams / uni sushi raw oysters / Fried clams / dungeness crabs Escargot snails / conch
  8. I wish that I could fish Beaver sometime soon. I haven't fished for bass from a boat in many years. Not sure if I remember how😅
  9. Congrats again! Recurring theme. Those are a couple of nice bass buddy!
  10. Back in New England we would often get scrod, which was more often young cod, but could be haddock and pollock. Those three all get kind of lumped together in my opinion. My list is as follows: Bluegill Wahoo Grouper / snapper (yellowtail, red, mutton) well cleaned white bass / <12 inch black bass Black Sea bass / Tautog cod / haddock / pollock aka scrod😉 sushi eel Yellow perch / crappie / flounder Striper / hybrid / kingfish (whiting) / white perch salmon Carryover In the stream orange/pink fleshed trout Should we look at shellfish next😁
  11. I preferred cod or haddock when I was ordering fish n chips in the UK. If you can get any species of pacific rockfish, especially yelloweye, they are a great fish for fish and chips.
  12. Probably because Snagging was already used for paddlefish/spoonbills. Likely didn't want to make if too difficult for folks to know what you were talking about 😉. That's why all three species of rock bass are called goggleyes or most sunfish are called bream😅!
  13. The husband of one of our employees catches a thresher or two every couple of years. I haven't been luck enough to have any. Locally we can get atlantic sharpnose sharks are they are plentiful and tasty. We've caught spiny dogfish but didn't keep and eat any. Been told that they need to be bled immediately and on ice or else they get a build up of ammonia. The smooth dogfish is supposed to be better and likely what is used for the fish and chips @Quillback was talking about.
  14. He's definitely put in the time and is reaping the rewards of those efforts.
  15. Great job @Lance34 sticking through the cold hands to get a bunch of nice crappie!
  16. I have seen CSN at least four times and enjoyed every concert. Never saw them with Neil Young present. The most memorable was seeing David Crosby riding his harley around the Hartford Civic Center after the concert. RIP David. Sorry about all those on this thread that lost folks close to you recently.
  17. Couldn't agree more with fresh caught fried fish (may debate the crappie vs other fish 😉) and homemade tartar sauce! Being able to harvest and then prepare wild fish and game is one of the best parts about our country.
  18. Congrats Ham!
  19. Before seeing the inside spread I was thinking 135 to 138". Might just go over 140 with that spread.
  20. Looks Great @JestersHK! That's going to look great on the wall. If you could send me a true straight on photo, I could send you a guess on the score via text.
  21. Congrats on a good day @Quillback! That spot has some girth. With the running fish I always wish that I had seen the fish then am happy at times that I hadn't.
  22. Great hunt Marty and congrats again on the new set of bands. Always neat to hear about where they have been. Helps the science when they get reported as well.
  23. That record didn't last long😉! Another giant burbot was caught in Indiana making it the third state record in the last month. I would like to be fishing in Indiana right now. https://www.wane.com/news/indiana/another-angler-breaks-indiana-record-for-biggest-burbot/
  24. Need photos or it didn't happen 😁
  25. You guys are pretty unlucky. I saw prices jump from $3 to ca. $3.60 around Truman Lake Warsaw area. Might be some of the highest prices in the state.
