  1. We are having a bit of a heat wave for Nov. No deer movement in the morning so no point in trying for a deer this afternoon. My daughter hasn't ever caught a chain pickerel. There is a small lake, Unicorn Lake, about 35 mins from the house that is supposed to have a good population of pickerel. I have fished the creek below the spillway previously but not the lake. We got to the lake about 3 pm. Sunset would be 5:30. Not much time to fish. Most of the lake banks were not accessible due to thick brush.. This lake also just does not have a lot of ambush cover that would hold pickerel that we could reach from the bank that we could fish. Started Livie throwing a Blue fox gold spinner around some brush that she could reach from shore. I was throwing a weighted spoon. Other than spooking a large fish or three there was no takers. Livie switched to fishing a worm on a trout magnet minijig under a float. Livie on her second cast around that brush pile landed what would be her biggest fish a chunky golden shiner. We both caught a few small bluegill in the lake on the worm. I went to the car to get my 2# line rod to go fish the spillway creek. This spot does stock trout but there are also lots of sunfish in the creek. I put on Trout magnet microjig with a small trout size float and an orange body. I started getting bites while drifting the TM. Lots of bluegill and a few pumpkinseeds. I also had three or four fish actually strike.my float. One fish that I thought was hooked only had the float in its mouth🙄. Livie was catching one after another as well. We ended the day at sunset with 36 fish between us both. Lots of the sunfish were chunky 7 to 8 inch fish. Not bad for a small creek.
  2. Thought about what they would taste like as well. Probably like pheasant. To me most upland birds taste pretty similar.
  3. Not seeing any loons lately but will see them in due time. We have had an unusual bird sighting. Over the last three weeks we have been seeing a young male peacock. He has been seen on one of the properties near our house. Someone looks to be feeding it. Livie and I hadn't seen it in a few days then there he was walking along the road. Don't know how long he will last due to possibly lack of feed or the abundant foxes around us.
  4. Harvest does contribute but the nutrient cycle is a bigger reason for the boon and decline in the lakes productvity.
  5. I love catching all kinds but if I had to catch just one fish all the time I would have a tough time between smallmouth, brown trout and big bluegills.
  6. A couple of good old boy hunters made a second trip to Alaska to hunt caribou. They could harvest two bulls each in the area that they were hunting. The outfitter said that due to the size of the animals in that area they should only harvest three or else the plane could not take off due to the weight. The hunters had a great hunt. Though warned, they each tagged two really large bulls each. The outfitter when he was packing the plane told them that he could not take that fourth bull. The two hunters did not want to leave their trophies and begged the outfitter. They mentioned that the outfitter they hunted with the last year let them take their four bulls. The outfitter conceded and with the four bulls on board they attempted to take off. They got some elevation but could not get off the ground and crashed. As the hunters scrambled from the plane., the one asked the other if he knew where they were. The other hunter said "yeah we are about 100 yards further than where we crashed last year!" 🤣
  7. That's pretty typical in the life cycle of an impoundment. There is a high amount of productivity and then a decline.
  8. A truck loaded with thousands of copies of ROGET'S THESAURUS crashed yesterday losing its entire load. Witnesses were stunned, startled, aghast, taken aback, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyzed, dazed, bewildered, mixed up, surprised, awed, dumbfounded, nonplussed, flabbergasted, astounded, amazed, confounded, astonished, overwhelmed, horrified, numbed, speechless, perplexed, fazed, disconcerted, perturbed, disturbed and breathtaken.🤣
  9. There is travel in the title that was likely outside of a 5 county radius !
  10. Looks like you found the urban trout!
  11. Al I don't know for certain, but I think that Robert is working with the same illustrator, Justin Sipiorski, that worked with him on The Fishes of Nebraska.
  12. I don't think that you could convince me to eat braised old squirrels or wild turkey legs. You're going to have to come out here and prove me wrong buddy!😝

    What's Cooking?

Well we cooked indoors tonight. Wife made Salisbury steaks. The "steak" had some French onion soup, bread crumbs, worchestershire sauce, chopped onions. Seared the patties on both sides then cooked in a sauce container the rest of the French onion soup, worchestershire sauce, ketchup, and cracked pepper.

  18. Nice @Quillback! We get a lot of loons here in the winter. Surprisingly large birds. I have never seen them in their summer plumage. May next summer if we get to New Hampshire or Vermont.
  19. Timmy Dunn was 16 when he had left Ireland for America, never to be heard from again. Many years later his worried mother discovered that Mike O'Malley was leaving for America and she asked Mike to look for Timmy and tell him to write to her. Well Mike looked for Timmy everywhere he went. Not knowing what he would look like after all these years he asked every man that he met whether he was Timmy Dunn, but to no avail. Then one day in a men's room, a man walked out of the stall. Mike asked him, "Are you Dunn?" The gentleman said, "Yes." Mike replied, "Well, why don't you write to your mother?!"
  20. A little boy is sitting in the park with his mother. He tells his mom that the kids at school have been talking about dark humor and how funny it is but he doesn't understand what they are talking about. His mother says "Son go over that man over by the pond that has no arms and ask to shake his hand." "But mom you know that I am blind." As his mom chuckles "And that son is dark humor !"
  21. And Jesus said to Peter "Come forth and you shall have everlasting life." But Peter came fifth and just won a toaster😅.
