Maryland March Fishing thus Far
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
I do buy a lot on line. Lately we usually have 4 to 6 different licenses in a year. Since Livie doe not have a driver's license, some online state sites won't let her get beyond needing that ID number. So getting it in person usually takes care of that issue. -
I agree about the Stinkin' green bass🤣 Just for @snagged in outlet 3 and to help, not from bryant creek nor a giant just a brown bass my daughter caught some years ago in a very small creek.

I saw this about the Boone and Crockett awards event. Maybe a little off topic (hunting vs fishing) but will be at the Wonders of Wildlife venue this July. Would love to be out there and go to this event to see the taxidermy. We happened onto the Pope and Young event at the KS Cabelas many year's ago. We had a great time looking at the entries for the record books. https://www.boone-crockett.org/boone-and-crockett-clubs-31st-big-game-awards-be-held-july-21-23-2022-johnny-morris-wonders-wildlife

Maryland March Fishing thus Far
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
Humbled again but this time in Delaware. Saturday we headed to Delaware to fish a spot on the upper Delaware Bay/lower DE river. There have been reports of white perch and we wanted some for dinner. We hadn't renewed our DE licenses yet but had planned on a stop at a local sporting good store we had goggled on the way. We get to the store and it was vintage 1950's with moth eaten taxidermy, old wooden shelves, shotguns, ammo, local notifications, etc. My kind of store🙂. After browsing we asked if they sold fishing licenses. Nope! you have to go to the hardware store about a mile away. Its a great hardware store and they have a decent fishing section. Got directions and headed to this great hardware store. They did have a decent fishing section with a variety of gear from heavy boat rods to trout rods and lures to match. They had the largest spinning reel that I have ever seen. Can we get fishing licenses? Nope! the system has been down all day. Try Walmart about 4 miles away. Now I do frequently go to Walmart to get non-resident fishing licenses. Most of the time is spent trying to find someone that can process the request and sometimes that can be A LOT of time. So with trepidation we went to the fishing counter at the Walmart (we saw a "romance store" on the way called Bendover 🤔). There was a guy in the fishing section and he attended to our license request immediately😁. While there I picked up a kid's fishing rod for my granddaughter, but that's another story. I hadn't checked the tide and felt like the fishing may be a crapshoot. We finally got to the Woodland Beach fishing pier. Folks were fishing, but while getting our rods rigged up, did not see any action. There was a 15 to 20 mph wind with heavy gusts at times. We were in the middle of a falling tide. We only heard about one guy that caught five perch at high tide and only one or two more caught by anyone. We fished anyway. I missed on the three bites that I had. Livie did catch one perch. Not enough for a meal and it went back, but enough to get the stink off of the trip. We left soon after and found a great market in New Castle DE that we are definitely going to get back there again. It was not a "successful" fishing trip per se, but we now have our licenses and have rods rigged for pier fishing in the future 😉. -
Especially of small fish 😉

Lucky or just prepared to spot something out of the ordinary.

I go through a lot of 2# to 6# Pline and definitely would not have any near 10 yrs old. I either respool a lot more than you do or buy in much smaller quantities (300 yds spools).

In all seriousness, eating brook trout out west makes for a superlative meal. Non-natives and abundant.

You're welcome Pete. I hope that you are going fishing today! If so we need photos 😅 -
Happy Bday @snagged in outlet 3! Have a great day!

I caught this 4.6 pound river smallie today

The fat content of those 4+lb river smallies makes the flesh very sweet 😉. No point in eating any of 5 yr old and smaller smallies. Seriously, a great story. Congrats again! -
A reprise but with a photo. Braised Asian pork belly with rice. Served with homemade pork soup dumplings. Sue and Livie had been working on the pork soup from ribs and other pork bones and meat since 1 pm. Then made the dough then prepared the dumplings. Steamed just as the pork belly was close to being done. A vegetable would have been a nice addition but not expected after all the effort to make everything else. Tasted delicious.

Nice Daryk. Have you gone out and caught any fish with your flies? Would like to see them if you have already or when you do.

Day two of Mrs. BilletHeads creek fishing.
Johnsfolly replied to BilletHead's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
Should be a grizzly bear so I guess that you were fishing with @grizwilson Ursus americans is the black bear. Sue wanted a Newfoundland but we moved to FL. Was going to name it Ursus. Never got that dog. Looks like you guys had a good time. -
It wasn't me that brought up the crossing of paddlefish species. I brought up without exacts that there aren't any Chinese paddlefish anymore and this is the last species in the world. That is a weird fish in your photo.
-
It's in the MDC mission statement.
-
This is the only surviving species of paddlefish in the world and they have been in those rivers for 100K's of years. This is the biggest reason that paddlefish are stocked in the rivers and lakes. The MDC is obligated to do what they can to keep an extant population going especially since man made structures like dams are impeding the natural reproduction in MO and many other states along the Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, rivers. Now why they have not implemented a snagging permit to generate funds to support the stocking efforts is a mystery to me.

It's Friday and time for a little dark humor A man and woman are walking in a dark forest. The woman says, "This is a really spooky forest and I am getting a little scared. Thank goodness you are with me or else I couldn't go on." The man replies, "So how to you think I feel knowing that I will be going back out alone!"🤣

Not sure that I follow 🤫. Seems like you began talking about spoonbill then switched to hybrid stripers.

One of my favorites. Pretty sure I posted this previously but don't care cuz it makes laugh as well.
