  1. If you can get close enough, I’ve caught a bunch this year mainly on small floating shad raps when they’re hunting on the surface. If they drop down they still will hit it when you crank it down. Also caught a bunch on poppers with the fly rod…
  2. I love the p line %100 fluorocarbon in 6 and 8 for the streams. Bought the copolymer one by mistake and it was terrible.
  3. Yeah Martin is an old company but the reels are made in China. That said, I love them and I bought 3 for $11 a piece this spring. They’re so light on my small fly rods. Also great crappie reels and catfish clickers…

    Bug deterrent

Look up the term “integrated pest management”. IPM is basically using multiple products with different modes of action (the way it kills) to control pests. The reason you do this is that pests have fast reproduction cycles and can become tolerant of the product quickly. Also this method allows for much less toxic controls to be used if you are concerned about what you are putting in your body. I use: Pyganic (knockdown power) Neem Oil (growth/molting inhibitor) Pest Out (irritant/smotherer) alternate and skip a day or two in between. add in other products to the schedule if desired. Use a tiny bit of dish soap or another sticker-spreader when spraying these on for adhesion to the plants…..

    SNAKE!

I remember reading that copperhead bites are usually not that deadly which is good because copperhead bites contain toxins that aren’t easily treated by the generic antivenin hat they use for most of the other pit vipers in the US

    SNAKE!

Am I the only one on this site that’s been bitten by a rattlesnake? Funny story. I’ve handled thousands of snakes and while living out west I would routinely relocate Timber Rattlesnakes after removing them from my property. One spring morning I was meeting the neighbor because we were going to do some fishing where a creek feeds into our river and a lot of two pounder rainbow would hold. While waiting for my buddy to show up I started pulling some thistles that had grown underneath the running board of the barn. The thistle poked me a couple times and I thought to myself ”I should walk up the hill to the truck and get my gloves” but as I reached down to pull more weeds I felt another poke and looked down to see that a tiny snake had reached under the board from the outside and had bitten me at the base of my thumb. I saw a tiny bit of liquid drip off the snakes fang as it retracted back from under the board. I imagine it was attracted to all the activity I was causing on the other side of the board thought my thumb was something to eat because it went out of its way to bite me. I looked down at my thumb and there was already instantly a black spot about the size of a dime. After a 2 Hour drive back to town my arm had swollen all the way to my shoulder. What’s weird was my thumb was huge but my four fingers weren’t swollen. When I got there the nurse asked me on a scale of one to 10 what my pain level was. I told her that my arm was about a seven but the rest of me felt like I was partying. She responded with “everybody says that” and proceeded to dump some morphine into my arm which knocked me unconscious. I woke up and they told me they had given me four antivenin shots. Here’s your bill for 50 grand edit: had to clean up the voice to text errors

    SNAKE!

That snake won’t need to eat for a year… I caught this beauty in the garden last week. Let it go back into the garden later.
  9. Thanks for the report👍
  10. Nice! Did you say you boil the tails?

  12. They are layered glass and plastic I believe. They can crack if you drop them right but I’ve only had I happen once out of many mishaps.
  13. Costa green mirror probably the best I’ve had for rivers and lake. Glass 580 lens. Amazing clarity. I like the weight of the polycarbonate lenses better but I tend to be hard on glasses while bushwhacking so I prefer the glass.. They’re like X-ray glasses for glare and definition in the water haha Used to be harder to find a good dealer to try them on at but Bass pro carries many styles. Found my last pair on sale a a smaller retailer.
  14. The federal government is the nation's single largest employer, although it employs only about 12% of all government employees, compared to 24% at the state level and 63% at the local level. Logically I’m going to vote for the candidate who is going to vote for the policy that helps my employer/aid provider
  15. This has been hashed out numerous times and it’s been ruled to allow the money into politics. Since this is where it stands I believe that transparency is the only fix. Politicians should be required to display their sponsors on their clothing much like NASCAR haha 👍.
  16. Correct. This aids in preserving a free society and private enterprise. It’s very possible that continuing to allow beneficiaries to vote (in their interest)to increase the size and scope of the government, you will create a system that most of the jobs are provided by the government. This is one of the main reasons our insane bureaucracy continues to grow. This is the opposite of a free society. The idea that a net tax contributor and a net tax beneficiary should have the same weight when voting on tax distribution is ludicrous and is the cause of much division. Funny how it’s never brought up…..
  17. It would follow that any governmental worker should be denied the franchise as well. There is a clear conflict of interest and deep unfairness in allowing a net beneficiary or employee of the gov to vote for increased taxes. It is in their interest to always vote to increase the funding of their benefactor to the detriment of the working public..
