  1. Enjoying your trip in pictures and the comments your adding with them.
  2. Awesome job Miss Sandy! I understand Rick's problem with taking good pictures. Hope you get into so more of those quality fish.
  3. Lookin good Rick and Sandy!
  4. Nice that Sandy let you catch a couple this time! I know the feeling.😀
  5. Glad you're back!
  6. Hadn't heard that name in a long time. He was hotdogging at Maramac one day and picked up a soda can off the ground and threw it at the trash can only to miss. He turned to walk off and a conservation agent was standing watching the whole scene. They headed to his vehicle I assume to get a fine for littering. Figure they were after him for "helping" people catch their limits, among other things.
  7. Watched Dave Whitlock tie deer hair poppers one day years ago when he worked at BPS. He made it look so easy and when it came time to trim them , it didn't require much razor work at all. Those look really good.
  8. Son in law has 6 hives on their property with a buddy that owns 3 of them. Think he's just getting his feet wet learning about the bees. Youngest daughter, his wife has gotten stung the last 2 times she mowed even though she wasn't that close to the hives. She had a bad reaction so hubby gets to mow in that part of their property.
  9. "freebees"🤣
  10. I'm with Doug on fishing the PM although the Muskegon and White rivers have also been good to us in the past. Susie's first salmon on the PM was an estimated 30# caught across from the Green Cabin.
  11. With cooler weather forecasted, Susie and I decided to make a one day trip to Montauk. Park wasn't overly crowded when we picked up our tags but the lady taking the money told me "I don't need to see your license. Said the conservation agents can do that". I already had our lifetime permits out but recalled the same individual saying the same thing last time. Back to a fishing report. We started in the 100 campsite area and again not a lot of fish. Once we got into the 200 area campsite, we caught fish on egg, scud and zebra midge patterns. Walked out at the above the handicap bridge and estimated 25 fish between us. Nothing of any size again with average fish 10-12". After a quick lunch it was onto the fly zone. Started in at Hudson's Corner and immediately started seeing more fish. It took us a bit to find the right fly as some of the old favorites weren't producing as they usually do. From the corner down to the next riffle was full of fish-as many as I've seen in a long time. The hot fly for the last 1 1/2-2' was an egg pattern in peach or an orange shade. Figured we doubled our catch from the 25 we caught in the campground. Nothing of any size but still fun on UL fly rods.

    What's Cooking?

I liked the labeling on those short ribs. Said "Superior Marbling For Rich Flavor"!

  14. Enjoyed the photos and the storyline that played out with it. Really liked the brown trout.
  15. I thought when I first read the title "Airing of Grievances" that it was was headed towards an old "Seinfeld" show celebrating "Festivus.
  16. I've had encounters with pit bulls 3 times in the last 2 years while walking around town. Each time ,the owner assured me "the dog won't bite; and fortunately I didn't get bit. The first 2 times I was carrying an old broomstick handle and it was enough to keep the dog at some distance while he owner secured the dog. I spoke with the animal control officer and the Chief of Police and they also weren't keen on the idea of shooting an animal. They both thought pepper spray would be the right response. I was talking to my older brother about my concerns and he produced a 3 foot long cedar stick that must weigh 2.5-3#. It's a little longer and heavier than some of my old baseball bats but I'm thinking it would have the same effect if I have to defend Susie and I against a dog that charges us.
  17. My in-laws moved back to Missouri in the early 80's from Pennsylvania to retire and help Susie's Gma with the old home place. The " farm" as we called it was a huge 2700 square foot home sitting on 12 acres ml. It required a lot of yard work with mowing 4 of those acres, weed eating along the creek and spring branch and wife's Gma's 5 flower beds. Father in law decided an 8 hp Snapper riding mower was the mower of choice. While we thought it was a little small for the job, he patiently mowed what he could at a slower pace and left the hand mowing and weed eating to our son and me. The Snapper lasted a long time in spite of him running over garden hose, a couple rabbits, some barbed wire and him banning me from using it. We bought a bigger mower later on to help with the yard work. Not sure what happened to it after he passed away and the mother in law sold the place. It would have been a great find because he took excellent care of it.
  18. Thanks for sharing a great trip. Several years ago Susie and I headed out on a 17 day trip that included parts of the Southwest (San Juan River) on up into the Yellowstone region. A lot of fishing but side trips that included the Aztec Ruins , Salmon Ruins and eventually Mesa Verde. A later trip also included Hovenweep and Monument Valley. Your pictures brought back some wonderful memories.
  19. Miss Susie and I decided to test the crowds and water at Montauk this past 4th of July. Started in the campground near campsite #109 around 930. The campground was full of people but that section of the park downstream was empty of fishermen as far as I could see . We didn't find many fish in that section other than a nice rainbow close to where we started. As we got closer to the handicap access, the fishing picked up. We got out of the water there and walked down to the 300 camping area. Started seeing and catching fish all the way down to the electric hole. Did see several nice browns in the 2.5-4# range but they weren't buying what I was selling. All totaled we caught in the neighborhood of 40-45 fish between us. Most of the fish were caught on egg, scud or beadhead patterns.
  20. I am truly sorry for your families loss. We lost our son Brett almost 11 years ago unexpectedly. Think the Misses still cries a little each day. We get reminders of him in songs that he use to sing, in things I see his nephews do and so many things that remind us of him. Stay strong and know people are thinking about you and praying for you.
  21. Sounds like Sandy had a seafood buffet going !
  22. I'm wanting to find an old megaphone so Rick can yell "action" and "cut" while Sandy's fishing since it's a fisherman's director chair. Susie has already nixed the idea of me getting the same setup.
  23. Glad to hear you and the Mrs. and the other driver are good to go!
  24. All those years working on the railroad made it easier to handle the extreme cold when fishing . My best 2 fishing buddies died ,one in 1997 and he other in 1999 and found then that most of the other boys didn't want to go when the temps dropped. Have found now that I don't enjoy it as much and rarely go when they're calling for really cold temps. Think coldest opening day we fished was maybe 1979 with minus 10 degrees and snow at Montauk. Fished Taney with the wind chill at minus 40 with Mr. Fuji( kids thought he looked like the wrestler). You could still use bait below the dam and he constantly spilled/dropped the old pellet bait in the water. He had schools of fish within 2 feet of him making it difficult for me to fly fish unless I got away from him. I quit when I started having trouble feeling my little fingers. He died in 1997
  25. Loved the "oh my', "oh my", oh my" when Duane first got a look at the fish.
