What is the farthest up the big river you would run a jet boat? I'm pretty ignorant of the things, and their capabilities.

Do NOT google BBC lounge.

Drove by 21 on my way out and there was about a dozen cars in the parking lot. It was crowded but there was some room to fish.

Hit busch yesterday and once last week for a few hours each afternoon. Crappie were biting well at 33, 38, and 6. A few small bass and bluegills mixed in. I imagine they are biting the same at any of the dirtier lakes. Jigs 1-3 feet under a float. I used swimming minnows, gulp minnows and maribou jigs. They all worked equally well. I had to use a cork because they were so shallow. Mostly dinks, but between my brother and I we would've had a decent mess of 10" fish had we chose to keep.

A quick soaking in vinegar, and a light scrub with warm soapy water and steel wool. A mild acid will work similarly to an electrolysis bath. It should be mostly silver at this point. Then rub it with oil and bake it in the oven at 400F for at least an hour. If you aren't going to be using the pan very often, repeat the oil/bake process a few times. If you will be using it often, then just 1 time will be fine as cooking in it will build up a good coating.

Do you fish it on the drop shot with the worm horizontal? I was taught to hang it vertical using a split shot rig, but the drop shot setup is probably less likely to get swallowed. I guess the fish dont care. Maybe I'll do it that way next time I'm down.

Odd that nobody mentioned live nightcrawlers, but something tells me when the going gets tough in mid summer most fishing guides on table rock hang crawlers with small bait holder hooks. I know that when I hang crawlers plenty get gut hooked especially when I'm not paying attention. Hot water and gut hooked worm fish die in a hurry. I will freely admit though that if it's a 15 inch spotted bass it's going on ice.

Wow! I don't know whether i find this to be awesome, or horrifying. I guess the Jack and the coffee helped to cancel each other out.

This is a solid observation. My grandmother lived in a retirement home and I recall seeing very few if any overweight people. If you are overweight, you can expect your doctor to tell you to lay off the high calorie foods, their job is to make you live longer and being overweight does not make you live longer. In general, what you eat is less important than how much of it you eat, its just that some foods are almost impossible to overeat, whereas others are very easy. Its pretty easy to get 2000 calories a day eating red meats, and processed carbs. On the other hand, 2000 calories of fruits and vegetables would fill up a bucket. I am no pinnacle of health lol, but I want to live as long as I can while still being able to do the things I enjoy.

Christmas Day report on the Lower
top_dollar replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in Meramec River
Yeah, I was going to walk the banks around Emmenegar yesterday but the river was trashed, so I fished Unger for 2 hours and caught 10 crappies kept 6, with 3 @ 12 inches and 1 small white bass. They were only a foot deep! That was a nice pleasant surprise as the first time i went i got skunked, the second time I went and caught 1 crappie and 1 small largemouth. 3rd time was the charm. -
All of the small ponds around saint louis have decent panfish populations. Depending on your skill level it might be best to fish at busch wildlife. That's where I do best for crappie and bluegill. The lakes there are pretty well managed and you can fish several to see what lakes have the best bluegill fishing. Idk about longear sunfish in any of the ponds, but you can def catch them in the creeks and streams around here. I catch several on the upper big river around leadwood. For spotted bass around stl fish the lower meremac. Wait til its warmer. Find some current and throw top water baits and jerkbaits. Other stuff probably works, but those have been my best lures. Also the #1 rule is to lower your expectations.

Nice catching. You're a panfish wizard! I've really been stinking it up lately! I hit unger yesterday and swam a small swimbait for an hour with zero bites. I probably should have slowed down and worked a jig under a cork. Then I walked that stretch of the river with similar results, got discouraged and went home lol.

So no 5 pounders for me. 🤣🤣

I know this wasn't for me, but I do think he probably did exist, and I do think that living your life, using the teachings of Jesus Christ as a moral guide is a great way to live. My mother is Lutheran and I was brought up that way. I remember the whole WWJD thing, and I firmly believe that if more people acted like that (myself included), the world would be a much better place. I also think id be happy if I found out that there was eternal life, but id definitely have a few questions for the big guy regarding his omnipotence/benevolence. That is really the main thing that keeps me from having faith. I never understood that, if god is all good, and all powerful, why do bad things happen to good people? I have concluded that god is either not there, not good, or not powerful. Personally at this point in my life i haven't seen any evidence that a personal god exists so I lean towards the "not there" argument. That, and the fact that nothing supernatural has ever happened to me. I suppose if Jesus walked into my room and did a sweet magic trick id be compelled to believe. That, or if I caught a 5# smallmouth I may just convert.

Was it at Hartley? I hunted the managed hunt yesterday at the state park and that lot was surprisingly full. I've never gone down to stockton without a boat and gear before, I wanted to fish so bad!
-
Suspending stick baits, small keitechs, and crappie jigs work ok for me, although I mostly crappie fish in the winter cuz they bite so well.
-
I have to admit the consistency with which you catch bass (and walleye) in the winter is fascinating and impressive. Great fish!

darn it. When you're right you're right. Sorry.

College indoctrinated me about chemistry and physics. I took no classes regarding politics. You are mistaken about what my education is in. I formed my political opinions elsewhere. In fact I couldn't tell you the political leanings of any of my professors in college. Most were foreign, couldn't care less, and politics wasn't discussed.

Its nice to know that 33 is considered young, although in reality I think I am a middle-aged punk. 😀 Punk is probably too kind, asshole is probably a bit more accurate.

It is easy to argue that straight white males born in the United States from 1945 to 1970 are the most entitled group of human beings ever to have existed. Straight white males born from 1970-1990 (myself included) can very easily be lumped into that group as well. The most recent generation, which gets derided so much, already have a shorter life expectancy. They will face problems from overpopulation, environmental destruction, and climate change. They also have to deal with an inexplicable rise in non communicable diseases, mental health problems, and probably worse than anything else, the internet and social medial. I firmly believe that my 16 year old nephew is just as smart and hard working as anyone.

Aging white guy in rural Missouri talking about other people being entitled. The irony here is staggering. 🤣

It looks very close to a berkely hit worm. I think they're designed for drop shotting. They work great for me on a 1/16th oz ball head jig and a #2 hook.

Cool thread. At over 900 pages it must be the longest one. Here are some of my favorite fish recipes. I use mostly crappie/bluegill, and if Im lucky a walleye 1.) Toasted Fish tacos with garden veggies and a mayo/sriracha/lime sauce. 2.) Parm/Panko crusted broiled fish with lemon butter sauce and garden veggies. 3.) Fillet O Fish sandwich. (hamburger bun, American cheese, and tarter sauce with fried fish.)
