  1. White 'glass fly rods are most likely Shakespeare, although some others did make some, Wonderod was the brand trademark. Some were real good rods but it seems to me that the Shakespeare rods all weighed more than other brands. They were the first to build fiberglass fly rods and IRRC the first to build graphite fly rods as well.
  2. Hair roots? I don't see how a tick or other parasite could burrow under skin. Not a good market at all, but Peterman at Weaubleau, Mo. posted a couple weeks ago that he could use a few red fox.
  3. I'm not sure when Wright & McGill rods were first labeled "Eagle Claw" (the parent company) but think it was when production moved off shore, I do know that the old brown rods of the '70s are much different than the yellow ones of the '90s. I fish more with 'glass than graphite and have a few favorites but only one 5wt and that's a 6'6" Phillipson. I much prefer the 7wts for their versatility. Odd to me that people think of those noodle rods as "buggy whips", a buggy whip is stiff as rebar except the 12" lash. Typical Sage rods remind me more of a whip.
  4. I guess I wouldn't buy a rod special for a one time four hour outing. I do have a 7'6" #7 W&M that I like a lot, but none like you propose.
  5. Then I'd first replace the garage outlet with a new GFCI, my assumption is that one of the appliances tripped that enough times that it is now weak. Also, because it is acting as an inline fuse with many feet of wire between it and the outside appliances it may be tripping when they are drawing less than 15A due to line voltage loss. fe, a saw drawing ~12A may trip a 15A outlet if on a 50' drop cord and not if on a 25' drop cord.
  6. BH is right about the GFI outlets getting weak after a few trips, some I've seen went bad at the first trip, but it sounds like you don't have GFI outlets but standard outlets hooked to a GFCI breaker inside? If so, I would replace those outlets with GFI so that you can know what load is the culprit, and so that the whole circuit isn't lost when one item shorts out. There is also the possibility that the breaker itself is bad/weak after being tripped multiple times. Reset it with nothing plugged in then, if it holds, plug in one item at a time to test what is causing the trip. And remember that the 15A breaker is 15A for the whole circuit, not each outlet. If the smoker is 10A and the heater is 10A they can't both be used at the same time.
  7. I've toured the Lebanon Bologna factory in Lebanon Pa about thirty odd years ago, memories a little vague, but I recall hanging halves of beef being cured about the way that Grandpa cured hams. Treated with salt and sugar and spices and then smoked for about a week prior to grinding and forming into the sausages. They said they use the whole beef and no other meat. IIRC they used red oak as the main smoking wood, but like I said it was a bit ago. Wrench your are correct that it does look like salami, but that is just looks, taste is somewhat different. As I recall the stuff was based on old German recipes, so one could say Amish, but the factory we toured apparently was not part of any religion. It was the cleanest meat factory I've ever seen, nothing like the poultry processing plant where I loaded trucks in '67.
  8. If you know anyone that trolls, it's real easy to strip the sheathing off of lead core, it's what I've been using to weight flies for ~45 years. The soft lead wire resulting weighs ~11 grains per foot.
  9. How could there be? It defies logic. If they are trying to limit the fish kill, they ought to only be open on week days, so fewer anglers, but if that's even a concern they should just cancel C&R. It has nothing to do with Parks or MDC employees working because they'd be on the job through the week anyhow. The Park itself is open 7 days. Just a bureaucratic Stupidity.
  10. I've always thought the C&R season was prejudicial, being set up only for people that have weekends free. Having worked every weekend for many years before I retired, Tue & Wed were my fishing days and even years into retirement I still never go fishing Sat or Sun. If they closed C&R at RRSP completely I'd lose nothing.
  11. There are no Thursdays during C&R at RRSP, the C&R season opens on Friday and closes on Monday of each week. All the other days are outside of the C&R season. So, if you go to RRSP on a Thursday leave the C&R tackle in the rig and enjoy walking your dog or picnicking or camping.
  12. I was just going to say that apparently F C has the whole heads in stock. But the wind is from the southwest so ...
  13. I second the "don't plant cedars". But I have question, why do you think deer will be attracted to the conifers? I never see them around cedars or pines in my neighborhood unless they are just passing through. I'd suggest a corn patch or green beans, and if the deer don't come (they will) you'll have stuff to eat.

    Stupid Kids

It seems three armed soldiers from the fort tried to burglarize a house and one got killed, it's not clear, but, the 16yo kid that allegedly did the shooting may have been defending himself or the house. I guess I wouldn't call people over 21 (or 18) "kids".
  15. I had a rumor that they stocked the creeks just before Thanksgiving, but with out of state company I rarely ever get out on a holiday week. Glad to hear you all had a good day. I have no doubt that there are always some trout there and that many stay over for years. The largest brown that I've ever seen came to surface just above the old bridge at the mill. It had to have been years in the stream. I bet the creek fishes best though a few days after stocking.
  16. It's hard to catch trout that are already eaten, and there ain't much shoulder to park on. I was also told that MDC only stocks at the bridges? no more stocking at the middle? in the Park? I think the fish last longer in Hickory Creek during the kill 'em all season.
  17. Is this a "bring your own fish" event? It may be that I just don't know how to fish that stream, but, the several times I've been there this year and last, I found no trout (I did hook some small native fish) and the last two times the entrance to the lower bridge parking lot was impassable. That was a favorite place for me back when it still farmed.
  18. I can fish C&R seven days a week on all the trout waters in the state except the Park or Taneycomo and never need the trout stamp. I f they allow me to fish one day a per week of my choosing in the park, I'd still buy the stamp. As it stands I probably won't give them that $10. You are right though that a lot of the trout released don't live. between slick nets that make the angler power squeeze the fish and cold hands dropping the fish 3-5 times before the camera works then having to step on the slimy thing to grab it again to get that trophy image. I was told a few years ago that they have to stock the park monthly for C&R. yet places like Crane Creek get fished C&R any day and never need stocking, figure that?
  19. Sounds like you fellows had a good day, at RRSP. The midweek days that I usually go fishing they close the C&R. Seems really stupid to me, if the fish are released what is gained by only allowing fishing on the weekends? Because of the weekend only rule, I'll probably only fish a couple times through winter at RR if at all, rather than being there a couple days per week. I'm about at the point to quit buying the Trout Permit every year since I get little benefit from it. That aside I always avoid opening day of anything.
  20. I guess the problem is tracing the gun and who touched it prior to the incident? Until the cops have an airtight case the prosecutor isn't going for an arrest that might get thrown out? Pinning down where charges will actually stick might not be as easy as if it were a personal weapon. Realistically though if this happened to not so famous people it would not have made the news at all. How many were shot that day/night in places like Little Rock or Chicago? Why aren't we discussing them? 298 homicides in St Louis in 2020 and I don't recall any upset on the forum about one of them.
  21. I'll bet that is exactly what Baldwin is saying.
  22. I've used my 17' aluminum solo lots of times and only rarely with someone else. That one is called a crossover solo/tandem. so I have to ask have you tried it solo?
  23. So the gun was prepared by the company armorer and handed to the actor by the assistant director to point at the camera and shoot as scripted; then a bullet from that gun kills the camera operator and the director standing behind her, both inline with the camera the gun is "aimed" at. If you did not know the actors name or other BS, what would be your take? Remember movies are fake, the props are supposed to be fake, the actors don't provide the props or prepare them for the scene, the scene was probably rehearsed several times prior to the live round and no actor would expect what happened. You have to think either the live round was an accident, or it was meant to kill the camera operator and discredit the actor? How could the actor take out the blank rounds and substitute live rounds in the middle of filming?
  24. What is the reason for having a minimum wage law? If it is not meant to provide a means of living and if those jobs are not meant to provide a living, why pay the workers at all? Let them be interns, eh?
  25. Some of the comments on that blog page indicate the "stories" are just stories, no facts; so, are bloggers required to tell the truth? isn't that blog just repeating/expanding the gossip that has already been mentioned? Apparently the cannibalism itself is not illegal, would have thought that if true it would have been another charge.
