New Creations
Ryan Miloshewski replied to Ryan Miloshewski's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Did some size 4 and in more natural colors. Seems everybody throws white/chartreuse and olive/yellow so thought I'd change some up. Added a helmet to some instead of eyes, too. -

Thanks! Yea, I don't like them too bulky. They tend to parabola in the water column, even with sinking line, with too much deer hair. -

Not me but have seen it. My buddy was throwing a streamer on the Current once and a big brown came out and ate it like you said, hard-charging and all. I'm watching it and 2-3 sec go by and I scream "SET THE FREAKING HOOK!" He got the front hook under its jaw but it jumped and spit it. To make matters worse he trout set, too. We laugh about it now, but sheesh. -

Truth! Been tying all weekend and it's already Sunday evening. Still thinking about that brownie.. -
Well after having a very big brown move and try to eat a double deceiver Tuesday I hit the vise. Playing around with a lot of combos with deer hair (hate), craft fur, marabou, and color patterns. I need to get the heads finalized and I'd be confident in selling them. I've been using the fish masks but I am going to try the Solar EZ Flex resin and see how that works out. Any feedback is welcomed. I'd be willing to swap with folks as well! Did I mention I hate deer hair? My rainbow attempt:

Boating Rules - Question
Ryan Miloshewski replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Agree with the Taneycomo rule. Last summer I watched a guy on full plane weave in and out of all the boats (20 or so) from Fall Creek to Short Creek. He came within 15-ft of them. It was one of the most ignorant and dangerous things I've seen on the water. Everybody was yelling at him but he just kept going. Sometimes you just have to idle, and that is ok. People seem to be in such a rush and somebody is going to get hurt. I am honestly surprised nobody has died on Taneycomo over the last three years, and that scares me. -
what colors did you use?
-
EP or craft fur? Look great!
-
@fishinwrenchI threw a double deceiver Tuesday afternoon until the sun came out. First cast I had a ~10 lb brown follow it all the way to the boat. Rolled on it and missed it. Came back then just went back down. I'm currently tying more deceivers and peanut envies.

Strangest thing ever found while on the water????
Ryan Miloshewski replied to Conor's topic in General Chat
Caught a, presumably, used condom once. That was neat. -
I went out and walked 2 miles on a CA near me last weekend. I only saw one rabbit and one squirrel--no shots were fired, dude. I love eating both, just usually take opportunistic shots at them while waterfowl hunting. Next year I am going to make it a habit to deer and small game hunt, too. (I say that now). Buttermilk fried rabbit or squirrel dumplings are about the best. I'm jealous.

Weed isn't even a real drug, nor is it causing any more issues (I'd argue less) than alcohol. I don't partake but know a few people who do. The state and letter boys realized they didn't have their grubby hands in it so here we are.

Specklebellies AKA The white front goose
Ryan Miloshewski replied to BilletHead's topic in Migratory Birds
Specks are as fine an eating bird as any I've ever had. They might be my favorite, honestly. Glad you got into em. -
Just hung the birds in my refrigerator. You have to make sure the ducks you pick to age aren't shot up in the body. That way the guts aren't causing any issues. Highly recommend aging ducks if you haven't done it before. Changes the texture and flavor quite a bit (in a good way).
-
Pan seared mallard I aged for one week back in late November. Added fresh rosemary to the duck fat and basted the last minute or so. Game changer. Complete with a horseradish cream sauce. If you don't like duck, you've never had 'em cooked like this.

They love trout eggs. Can't use them, obviously, but I'll bet you can catch them on a crystal meth or an egg cluster fly. Corn, nightcrawler, etc. all seem to work. I've even caught some on Lilley's jigs on the bottom. Just score the meat and fry. Absolutely delightful.
-
I really like whites and stripers, too. Some people hate em. Generally the people who love crappie and walleye . How could I forget a fresh sucker from a cold, Ozark stream? That may be numero uno.
-
-
Everybody likes walleye because it's a novelty not readily caught. It's a flaky white fish..good, but highly overrated. Same with crappie. Crappie is just a flaky white fish. Just fine, but not the best. Sometimes I think people like crappie and walleye because of the lack of flavor. Bluegill and white bass are way better than those two. Also, any saltwater fish will blow a freshwater fish out of the water nine times out of ten.

Yea I can't stand ground meat "jerky." Whole meat or nothing for me. This stuff was just disappointing. Won't be using it again or substituting my usual recipes.
-
Oh yea that's all I normally use, but like I said I didn't have 2-3 days to let it soak. Needed to crank it out fast. I won't try and shortcut again.

Had five pounds of honkers I turned into jerky yesterday. I usually make my own jerky marinade/cure, but I wanted to get it done before my weekend trip. I used Hi-Mountain Sweet and Hot. Never again. Absolutely zero flavor on the end product. The cure worked just fine, but it is just bland as can be. It's edible and taste fine, but for the price of the crap I was hoping for actual flavor. Ground 8 lbs of duck this morning and made maple breakfast sausage--now that is not bland. A+ on that front. It will be turned into biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches for my upcoming goose hunts. Anybody else have issues with Hi-Mountain sucking?

Live scope transducer pole and screen mount
Ryan Miloshewski replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
My buddy Brian has it dialed in for ease of use and getting the most out of it. Here's what he uses: -
Couple of ones from this winter. Smoked wood duck queso and a Brunswick stew with squirrel and duck legs. Both were very, very good.

I don't see why they wouldn't be. I'm going Thurs/Fri so should have an update for ya by the time you get out. The other day I didn't go 2-3 min without seeing 10-15 mallards. Could've shot a limit walking in the way they were swinging. Went scouting and when the sun set it was unreal. Mallards and geese dotting the sky going to fields like they were starlings.
