Believe it or not that was the coldest day we've hunted all year, relatively speaking. 31 deg in the morning. Got up to 67 though. Rough.

How's everybody been doing? I've found if you can locate the water, you will shoot ducks. Kansas has been good ever since the opener. Did some slaughtering first few days of MO season. Got some geese as well. I've hunted 11 days straight. Taking a much needed rest today and tomorrow.
-
There are a lot of ducks here right now. Should be a banger for a few days!
-
Coots are good. Buddy shot 15 in three shots in NoDak lol. Brought them home and cooked them. I would've thought they were a nice, plump dabbler. Shocked.
-
Shot a ring neck the other day and gagged while cleaning it. Smelled so bad.
-
Oh no, the ivory billed whistler is the true trophy of every hunt! We always shoot coots if they get close. They actually taste darn good. In fact, taste better than any diver.

Oh they're plenty nice. Just annoying and obnoxious about Omaha. I have a client now from Long Island..brutal. Can't wait to turn them over.

Most of the people I know from Omaha, which is unfortunately a lot, are insufferable. A few good ones but most of the people I went to college with from Omaha I would be fine never seeing again. It was always nice to see Nebraska lose during parties, though. They'd legitimately cry because that's all they have in that horrendous excuse for a state.

I went hardcore streamer fishing this year at Taney. Learned a lot. Failed, succeeded, yada yada yada. Here is what I will say on it. This is all from a boat FYI. 1) I noticed with more than 3 units generating a sink tip with a Sex Dungeon or big double deceiver is about as useful as tits on a boar hog. It just doesn't get it down. Would probably be ok in low light but when they sun is up..no good. 2) Because of numero uno, you need sinking line. 300-400 grain to get it where the fish will eat it when they are generating. 3) It's a hell of a lot more work than throwing a jerkbait. 4) You better invest in a darn good rod, reel and line because a $170 TFO is not going to cut it for slinging the big stuff. Learned that one the hard way. POS rod. 5) It is fun as hell when you get a strike. I lost a lot of fish but when the big ones hit, they darn near jerk the rod out of your hand. Catching one on a fly rod is just way more rewarding, regardless of size. I like jerkbait fishing, and this is in no way a brag, but I have landed quite a few trout over 20-inches in the last few years. I got bored and wanted to try streamer fishing. I finally got two at 21-inches on a sculpin in August. So, not exactly on the big meat, but it was still fun and challenging. The goal still stands to catch a big one on a 8-9-inch fly this winter.

It's all preference and confidence. If you throw something that looks like food in front of a hungry trout they'll eat it. The best and most successful over the last four years have been McSticks, Megabass 110 and 110+1 in Elegy Bone and Wakin' Reaction, 6th Sense Provokes and Duane's jerkbaits. I also use a medium action baitcaster with 8-10-lb test. This spring you needed a 110+2 to get down with the high flows so a floater would've been worthless. You have to adjust the size and type of bait based on flows. No generation--smaller bait that either suspends 1-3 feet or not at all. Four units running--110+1 suspending to get down to the 6-8 ft range. Just play around with it. If you have a group of jerkbaits you use for winter and spring bass fishing, use those. You'll catch fish. There are a lot of great jerkbait fishermen on here @JestersHK, @Travis Swift, @MNtransplant to name a few. Essentially you asked us what time it is and we are going to tell you how to build a watch!

With the cool weather in KC I decided it was time for a venison pot roast. Venison with carrots, baby and sweet taters, onion, mushrooms, and corn. Little croissant rolls with it and some deli horseradish..can't beat it! Made some broiled crappie bites a while back, too. Crappie with a piece of bacon on top. Sprinkle with tajin, lemon juice and hot sauce when done. Delicious.

Wind and leaves.

That's what I always say when I'm hunting and get skunked. Somebody always asks "see anything?" To which I reply, "yea, wind and leaves." -
2020 MDC Survey, Lake Taneycomo
Ryan Miloshewski replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Down lake there is 100% some monsters. But it is such big water. And deep. It would take some time to hook into one. I think you'd almost have to troll with downriggers and just cover water. Once you get down by Powersite it looks like TR/BS. -
I have fished it a few falls and the best way to get them is trolling Bandit 300s on main lake and secondary points. Have to find the magic FOW.. Sometimes in 6 fow, sometimes in 20 fow. Graph or troll different depths until you get bit.

I assume like most I cut my teeth squirrel hunting. Still like my .410 if I am actually squirrel hunting. These days it seems I find myself opportunistically plugging them with a .20 or 12 ga. Or undergoing pest removal. Little SOBs destroyed three flower pots this fall. Have a nice batch in the freezer. Urban greys taste just as good as "wild."
-
I hate them SOBs. Worse than chiggers or a tick bite. I got lit up by them last weekend. Miserable.
-
That is him. He is a POS. He tried to wave me up on the gravel bar in the narrows in Lilley's boat once. I went by at a foot and said "I know this f***ing game John."
-
Get some! Hope you guys get into a mondo.
-
I know most of them and the only one who is a dbag normally is Sappington. Gets his boat sideways and tries to be a bully. Most know the drill though. Even he was nice about it when I was down there. Just something you have to live with, with all the people on there. It really is crazy how much traffic is on the lake now. I remember even 3-4 years ago it'd be nothing to be the only boat fishing late in certain (productive) areas.

When I was down in August for a week, both weekends I had to idle from Cooper Creek to Short Creek..the entire way. Between the fishing boats, stupid kayaks, and abysmal jet skiers, Taney has been insane with traffic this year. Can't wait until the winter.
