  1. You should try Boulevard's Sixth Glass, Founder's KBS, and Goose Island Bourbon County if you like this one. I can't drink stouts outside of November-March. And weirdly I do not enjoy any alcohol while eating, even wine. I know I'm missing out, but just can't do it.
  2. I thought it was a pink powerworm by the landing??
  3. Oh man that’s hilarious haha! And yes, he was landing a fish and I went back to cast and hit his rod on accident. Next cast it snapped. But he bought a new Scott so let’s not pretend it wasn’t a blessing.
  4. Went down with my buddy Justin early Saturday morning from KC. Got on the water by 6:30 am. Fog was crazy bad but we made it up to Lookout and fished the bluff on cicadas I tied up for the trip. First drift we landed 32..yes, 32. Missed just as many. It was madness. Fished until 10:30 am and took a few hour break before we hit the evening. The evening was a bit tougher because there were cicadas everywhere on the water. We still got plenty of bites, though. We ended up with just over 60 fish on the day. It was the exact same story Sunday, although we didn't count. This morning was rainy and windy with a front moving in and then out, but we still caught 16 fish. They opened three flood gates around 9:00 am or so, so we went up and threw jerkbaits. We caught a few, biggest being a 19-inch rainbow. Biggest on the cicada was this 22-incher. We had a couple others move on them that were much bigger. Definition of heartbreak. It was so much fun. Easily in my top ten fishing experiences of all time.
  5. @fishinwrench you'd be surprised how well a Tiny Torpedo works at night there. A Fat Albert or big chubby would work just fine. As you said, if they're eating big bugs, they're looking for a profile. One thing I've noticed with bigger foam flies with trout...they miss them a lot. The cicadas may be a real-life size 4, but the amount of hookups you're going to get on a size 4 fly is going to be way less than a size 6 or 8. I think it's just physics and fluid dynamics when they open their mouths for it.
  6. Alright, that's all I needed. Me and my cicadas will be down as soon as I can get away from work.
  7. New s**t has come to light, man!
  8. Pete you are killing me! I wanna get down there badly.
  9. Pete Wenners, Mike Webb, Jordan Isaacs, and Eric Prey are all solid choices you can't go wrong with.
  10. I smoked a dozen a few weeks ago and they got the smoke color but no real flavor. Do you find the pickling helps with it?
  11. Fish the lower lake from Rockaway to Powersite like it's Table Rock and you will be in business. If there is grass, use a frog and heavy braid in the mornings and evenings. For what it's worth, I think the next state record largemouth is in Taneycomo. The silting in is an issue, but I know MDC is working to combat it.
  12. This "study" is the equivalent of Wakefield's "study" claiming vaccines cause autism. It's pseudo science and the fact it's being shared across platforms is a disgrace. CWD will likely become zoonotic at some point, but this is a lunatic Dablemont-esque article.
  13. Water is really low for fishing Sac and Little Sac this year. I know plenty that are catching them out of boats in deeper holes. I've fished it 3-4 times and have only (I say only in jest) caught smallmouth.
  14. Yea the amount of people who "have" to keep the bigger walleye and crappie during the spawn is a mindset, that's for sure. Plenty of smaller eaters out there that one can catch.
  15. I'm young, but I agree. It has been so brutal every single day, right until dark and past. Makes it very hard to enjoy fishing. I caught that fish and just hung up the rod.
  16. Been fishing Truman the last few weekends. It's honestly been pretty brutal with the wind. We have been catching them, though. The cold fronts have them moving constantly it seems. Most of the keeper fish are in the mouths of creeks in 15-20 FOW, about 10 ft down. As soon as you get into the creek arms, it is dink city. Color doesn't seem to matter much, but monkey milk, orange/chartreuse, and bone have been good. We have been using 1/4-oz and 3/16-oz jig heads to get down quickly with the wind. Some fish crush the jig if you get it anywhere near them, others you have to knock them on the head and slowly pull it away. Hopefully we get some rain and warmer weather to move the keepers back up into the creeks. Water temp was 54 yesterday, with shallower areas showing 57. Got this one yesterday--biggest crappie ever landed at 15-inches and 2.2-lbs. Let her go so she could spawn. That was fun!
  17. It's their stipulations. Did some research and you can use Bally but you have to have a TV provider. Which defeats the purpose of the entire app. But overall, MLB is to blame. MLB and the NHL are atrocious at making games viewable. NFL has a lot of hate, but take notes.
  18. Wow. It's amazing how much the MLB steps on their own feet. The blackouts are ridiculous and now this? So dumb.
  19. @Phil Lilley Bally Sports App is the only good option. MLBTV will blackout since it's technically available on Bally in SWMO. It's a bad user-friendly app, but it's $15/month and worth it if you really want to watch. I have Bally Sports for Blues games and could watch the Royals on there if I wanted.
  20. Had a deer hunt in late December a decade or so ago. One of those winter afternoons/evenings that is just completely still. No wind, birds, etc. You feel like you're the only thing with blood running through it in the woods. Well, I thought I heard some deer right before dark. Lo and behold I stayed until it was almost pitch black. I take the primer out of my muzzeloader, climb down, and get ready for the 1/4 mile walk back. As soon as I hit the last rung of the ladder, I heard the most God-awful scream 20-25 yds away. You wanna talk about pucker factor. I quickly put the primer back in and stood there frozen for 5 minutes. I hauled a** back to the trailer. Turns out it was a grey fox. Got it on the trail cam by the stand about 2 min after it scared the ever living hell out of me. However, I have had a couple of instances in the woods where..I'll just say it's not easy to explain what I heard/saw.
  21. It's been five years of nonstop FFS catching from guides and everyone else. Spider rigging to FFS overnight in late 2018/early 2019. Would've seen something by now I'd think. Only thing noticed is the crappie are getting bigger faster.
  22. At the end of the day, like anything, it's up to the fishermen to manage it. You don't have to keep your limit of crappie, walleye, white bass, etc. that you are scoping--I know that's crazy but I'm right you know. You can release all of them, in fact. Have a self-imposed slot limit or number of fish you or, if you're a guide, your clients keep daily if you think you're really negatively effecting the population. I tend to think it's just the same stuff, different year. Fishermen started with actual, paper graphs. Then sonar came out and it was cheating. Vexilars up north=cheating. Side scan sonar made people lose it. I look at a lake like Truman and how many fish are taken out of there daily, with FFS, and how big and healthy the population of the crappie is, and can't really be convinced it's detrimental to a large reservoir--especially crappie.
  23. I just ordered some for the walleye and whites. Excited to try them out.
  24. Photoperiod plays a role, not just WT. My guess is it'll be a staggered spawn for everything, which I am seeing with walleye and white bass now. Some will go early (or in this case already have), others normal time, and some later. Female walleye I've caught all had different stages of egg development, which was wild.
  25. Not a chance the USACE would do that. Flows are and will never be about the fish, unfortunately. However, I've talked to Shane/MDC and they said rainbows can and do spawn in the creeks on Taney. The ones who attempt in the main lake are not usually successful they said, but I wouldn't doubt some produce. Those fish in the pics though are very far along. Nice brown trout food size, too!
