  1. Saint Louis: The Weather Channel says we got 4", with snow continuing until around 1pm today, with less than 1 additional inch of accumulation. Not sure about the 4"... We have snow on the ground, but grass is poking up through it in many places. I'd guess less than 3" of snow locally.
  2. That's my opinion on trout, too. At least whenever I've tried to cook the stocker trout I've caught. But I've been very pleased with almost every trout I've eaten that was prepared by a restaurant. Sooo, is it me? Or is is the fresh-from-the-hatchery stocker trout? I'd feel guilty killing a wild trout. This is a hypothetical list of fish that SHOULD be eaten (by others). 😁 1. Silver Carp 2. Bighead Carp 3. Stocker Rainbow Trout 4. Bullhead 5. Tilapia 6. Orange Roughy 7. Patagonian Toothfish Chilean Sea Bass 8. Common Carp 9. White Bass I couldn't decide on a #10 to finish out this list. For PERSONAL consumption, I would rank fish like this: 1. Walleye 2. Crappie 3. Northern Pike 4. Sushi (Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, & White Tuna) 5. Cobia 6. Mahi Mahi 7. Bluegill 8. Whatever they serve at Long John Silver's 😅 9. Restaurant Trout 10. Snapper
  3. Maybe its about legal culpability? If folks DO start dropping from eating contaminated wild animals, and their families try to sue the govt and chemical manufacturers...the govt/mfrs can show they warned people, but the people didn't follow their advice. If they knew but said nothing.... that would be bad. 🤷‍♂️ Just a thought.
  4. Nice! I'm glad it has tilt steering! 😜
  5. Always impressive. I've tried it a couple times...can't recall having much if any success. You da man, Jim! 👍
  6. I'm familiar with her from her Grass Carp Fly. I tied up some. Never caught anything on them. That's cool you know her!
  7. Me too. Every time I think I have something figured out, the fish change their mind.
  8. I was hoping you were catching some fish today! That's great! 🌞
  9. Yep. White sometimes works great. Sometimes less so. If one color stops producing, changing colors cans often flip the switch back on. I've alternated with white, black, chili pepper (copper-ish), olive, gold, and silver. Some days every color will work at some point. Let me know if you ever find a hard-and-fast rule in fishing. 😄
  10. My buddy loves 'em. It's one of his favorite baits for muskies.
  11. They'll catch fish anywhere. Its up to the angler to avoid getting hung up on weeds and rocks.
  12. Cobia are delicious! I've only caught one (in Florida)...during my honeymoon! Great fight! The boat captain said they taste so good because they eat crabs.
  13. Minimum length looks to be 7".
  14. Why not try both? Cover all your bases. My buddy gets heirloom seeds from Seed Savers in NE Iowa...He loves their products! We've actually visited their location a couple times, since there's a trout stream with native Brook Trout and self-reproducing population of Brown Trout.
  15. Good luck tomorrow! I hope you catch a bunch of fish!
  16. They didn't mention it...but aren't Pikeminnows native to that river system? And so have been living alongside the native trout and salmon species in the river for eons? Don't young trout and salmon eat young pikeminnows? And some of these pikeminnows they want removed have been caught, tagged, and released back into the river? I understand that is one way to estimate the population size...but...
  17. I don't watch many of his videos, but I haven't unsubscribed yet either. He was also fishing another place in MO, a pay-to-fish trout stream I recognized although I've never been there. Sort of nice he doesn't mention the spots by name...but if you know, you know....y'know? The "clickbait" that I fell for was that he was going to fish for "a very rare new species". I wanted to know what it was. I watched the entire video. He didn't catch whatever that species was, and he never mentioned what it was...only that he didn't catch it. Oh come on! At least say what it was! 🙄
  18. I just watched a video from an Illinois angler, "618 Fishing" I believe is the YouTube channel. He didn't name the stream in the video, but I recognized it right away. He showed the pool below the culverts you mentioned. Wow! Yeah, just like you said, that pool is filled in. He says those trout are McCloud strain (McCloud River Redband Trout), based on the orange at the top of the dorsal fin.
  19. After getting to 207 Koi on the year for 2022, by catching 12 on 12/31/22....I decided to start 2023 in the same fashion. I flyfished on Monday, 1/2/23. I caught 15 Koi and 5 Goldfish. First 2: Some of the others: And some of the Goldfish:
  20. Does it seem like anytime the federal gov't threatens to crack down on oil companies...make 'em pay more taxes or whatever...the oil companies just raise the price of gas to cover the difference, so it never comes out of their bottom line? It's what you'd want, as a shareholder.
  21. @Ham and @Johnsfolly I'm seeing a pattern here. If it were me, I'd probably be directing friends to use a better guide service. Were either of you able to get a refund of your deposit?
  22. I caught 39 species on the fly rod in 2022, 5 of which were new species to me. I ended with 207 Koi on fly for the year, 133 Goldfish, 46 Bowfin, 40 Grass Carp. I've continued to witness the skillfully magical fishing wizardry that is @Ham . 😁 I'm pretty sure if I spilled a little bit of bottled water in a hard-packed tire rut on a dirt road in Arkansas...Hamilton could/would catch a Lake Trout out of it. Or an Orangespotted Sunfish. 🏆 I appreciate all the times we managed to fish together over the past year, we visited quite a few really neat places!
