OK. So my answer depends on knowing some background. I typically carry a topwater rod, a crank bait rod suitable for flicker shads through rock crawlers, a jig and spoon jig rod, and a Ned rod. Oh, and of course my two walleye troll and worm harness rods. I rarely fish anywhere other than the Rock.
With that in mind, I choose line for multiple applications on a day in and day out basis. That means I put 6# line on the Ned rod. I put 8# on the crank bait rod. I run 10/2 metered braid on the walleye rods. I put 10# line on the top water, and I use 12# on the jig and jig spoon rod. If I try to drop shot, I use the crank bait rod. If I throw a large wake bait or swim bait, I use the jig rod. If I want to drag a C-rig, the rod I use depends on the weight.
Except for the walleye rods, I have found YoZuri clear or lo-vis green holds my knots well, stands up to abrasion, and has an acceptable diameter. I cannot say the same of any fluorocarbon or of any straight mono. The bonus is the unexpectedly low cost.
I suggest anyone who is serious about line versus line comparisons should go to tackletour's web site and read their articles on line and on knot strength. I promise those articles will explode the commonly held beliefs.
