    Today's sammich

Gentlemen, please. Anyone can ruin good fish. Anyone can cover it with sauce. Read my blog posts and the recipes in the What's Cooking thread.
  2. BTW, I hope you all understand what we have to do. Spray where they breed.
  3. Bobby B, you fished with me out of Holiday Island. Although it is not immune from wake boats, there are fewer.
  4. Mono - Maxima Hybrid - Yozuri Braid - My preferred company went out of business, so back to Suffix Just my opinion and experience.
  5. Unravel a 3 to 4 inch piece of white rope. Leave a small part of one end intact. Hook it solidly at one end of a small in line spinner like a mepps or panther martin. The gar teeth get caught in the rope fibers. You will need a glove to hold the fish and pliers to pull the rope from the teeth.

    Fancy grits aka polenta,
  7. I do not know the science, but, over the years, I noticed the same late summer pattern. The males outnumbered the females. I always assumed the females were deeper and less active until nighttime. I also wondered if the females stayed down and fed on the cripples left when the other fish cut through schools. Oh, and to second another point you originally made, Chuck, my early walleye mentor, taught me that when I was catching bluegills, walleye were somewhere near.
  8. First, and most important, get well! Second, I absolutely believe you about the walleye. The continued stocking, the limit rules, and the limited natural spawn have made that lake a true walleye fishery. As the long time regulars know, there a a variety of methods that work, but this time of year, with the fish so deep, jigging spoons and drop shot crawlers are the way to go. Here is a link to a 2018 article: Your report made me realize that I have not caught a walleye in over three years.

I am sure it was great. I have converted over the years. I now use a secret blend of salt and pepper. That plus smoke is all I need to please my wife and me. I do make a mustard based sweet/sour/salty/hot sauce for application at the plate.
  12. Large trout colored jerk baits. Jeff Fletcher caught his Arkansas record on one below Beaver dam.

    What's Cooking?

Thank you for the compliment. I have seen several ugly vegetable stews called ratatouille. The famous chef, Thomas Keller, was the consultant on the movie. What he had them draw was actually a dish called a tian. They look prettier but with almost the same flavors. I large dice the veg (onion, eggplant, zucchini, and yellow bell pepper) and fry each separately over medium heat. I try to have the edges slightly brown by the the time the vegetables are cooked. All go in a bowl. I peel and seed the tomatoes and cut them in chunks about 1" in size. Garlic goes in with the onions. Thyme goes in the combined vegetables. Just before serving (warm or cold) I add minced basil.

    What's Cooking?

Portuguese sardines. Tahini lime dressing on the salad.
  17. The large, inside bend flat at Stubblefield Branch is loaded with them. Slowly drag a drop shot rig with a half crawler near the channel drop off and you will load the boat.
  18. I kept most but not all legal walleye I caught. I tried to never exceed the total possession limit (8) in my freezer, but that was not difficult. To do so, I merely adjusted the frequency of days fishing. Some days I only fished the morning top water bite and came in. We used every fish I kept.

Gazpacho made from tomatoes and cucumbers from my patio garden. Braised chicken with Mediterranean spices, garbanzos, olives, and capers.
  23. oops. The Harter House is in Shell Knob on 39. 39 would be a good move too; just farther to Bull Shoals.
  24. Check out Highway 13 from Blue Eye, AR to Reeds Springs, MO. Table Rock, Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals are close. Good medical care in Springfield. Entertainment in Branson. Best grocery store in the world in Kimberling City. Great golf at Big Cedar.
