  1. Now,now, now. If I can't cook them to suit me or the wife, then it can't be done. At the risk of hijacking this thread, I will state that 90% or more of the people that eat fish do so either because they like the fried breading or batter or because the blackening spices render their taste buds incapable of working. How else do you explain tilapia?
  2. This is just my opinion. Ignore it if you wish. The regulations set a keep limit by size and number. So long as someone or some group abide by that regulation, none of us should judge.Yes, some regulations are absurd. Some are too restrictive. Some are not restrictive enough. None the less, those who play by the rules should be bullet proof and not criticized. I have been catch and release on bass for years. I do so because they are not that good to eat. I keep legal walleye. I throw back trout. Unless they are cold smoked, they taste like dirt. My palate is not yours. My attitude is not yours. BTW, if you think bass protectors are bad, visit the walleye boards where size ninjas happily rip the intestines out of those who keep sizes they feel are wrong.
  3. Such a model sportsman! 😉

    What's Cooking?

I have posted this meal before, but the picture was so good, and the steak was on point (without using a sous vide), I had to brag.
  5. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
  6. Of course, I no longer live there and can't cross the street to see how high or how dirty. If high and dirty like 2011, fish the top water bite early, and then switch to finesse worms and neds just outside of the old bank line. (8 to 20 feet). Walleye will be on the inside bend flats at the same locations and depth, and will be suckers for the Lindy rig. Bass too. Don't forget the picnic table pattern.
  7. Good karma Ham. I am not a bible guy, but the book frequently says it all. Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit.
  8. First comment: You have a plan. Check. Second comment: I wish I were in the boat. Please report with pictures.
  9. When dams give full throat roars they are awesome.
  10. I have tried jigs and spinner baits with deer hair several times. I have also done marabou. However, I had never done a trout fly before last night. I started with Wooly Buggers because everyone says they are very productive and the videos did not look too difficult. The three on the right are tied on #4 streamer hooks and you can see that one is plain, one is a cone head, and one a bead head. The far left is tied on a #6 hook. All are wire wrap weighted underneath the chenille. I used saddle feathers from a pack I have had for years to tie feathered trebles for walk the dog lures. As you can see the hackling is not as prominent or as dense as the pictures of flies made by others. Is the choice of hackle feathers the reason? Other suggestions are welcome as well.

    What's Cooking?

Braised sort rib with saffron, mushroom, and asparagus risotto. My lovely wife says it was one of the best meals I have made in months.
  12. Years ago, there was a character, Trav, who posted on here about the good bass fishing in the lower lake. Of course he also said he had caught many lunkers as well. I saw smallmouth under docks at Rockaway Beach during a trip with our small children when we stayed at some dump near there. Can't remember his name, but a guide on Taneycomo (Rex?) used to write for Fishing Facts/In Fisherman with pictures of mixed trout and bass stringers. So I would say yes. I can't speak to their numbers.
  13. How very gracious! A few to start with would be great! 6613 S. Granite Ave. Tulsa 74136
  14. We feel your pain, but when it pops out, that is when you get the bite.
  15. I have also been studying flies. They are expensive. I can tie clousers, wooly buggers, and San Juan worms. Poppers are something I do not know how to do. Suggestions?
  16. I have a shopping cart ready. TFO Pro II 6 wt 9' rod. Echo Ion reel. Orvis Hydros 6 wt weight forward floating warm water line, Rio three pack 12# tapered leader. $367 and free shipping. Not a "bargain" outfit, but one that the reviews suggest is a good beginning. This setup fits my hatred of cheap and my wariness of spending money on something new.
  17. Keep those pictures Bobby. You will cherish them and someday she will as well. Lucky an.
  18. Forrest Gump. "Stupid is as stupid does."
  19. As slimy, nasty, and off putting as they are, I admit I have enjoyed every accidental flathead catch I have made. Never kept one for me, but I have given more than one to close by fishermen. Then I spent 10 or more minutes trying to clean the line, the net, my hands, and even my rod tip.
  20. QB you insured good karma. Peace.
  21. Every guide ever wants this response. Well done Ed!
  22. Ready to pull trigger on this. Yea or Nay? https://www.reelflyrod.com/redington-crosswater-690-4-fly-rod-outfit-6wt-90.html
  23. I caught more than several keeper walleye on the Ned. Dumb? Yes. I guess the makes it not dumb.
  24. When the movie, A River Runs Through It, came out, Larry and I were still regularly fishing the White River below Bull Shoals. We rented boats and guided ourselves and had been doing so since before Rim Shoals was declared catch and release. Suddenly the river was infested with what we dubbed as wading pukes. They all looked like models from LL Bean, right down to their vests, waders, and hanging thingamabobs from the vest. They stood in the middle of the channels and runs through the shoals where they should have fished and flailed at the shallow water. I am sure they all joined TU. The fact I am considering becoming a wading puke amuses me. Having said that, Wrench has posted the quintessential Wrench post. ^^^^^. I love it. However, I will share this. I have a daughter I dearly love, Emily. She has never encountered an issue or fact about which she did not have the correct opinion. She is quite willing to explain why you are mistaken. The fact she is highly intelligent and well educated makes her formidable. Scary and formidable. My hope is to someday introduce her to the Wrench. I could sell tickets and become rich over night.
