Sometimes itβs the little things that make a difference...when fish are biting and active many things will get you fish...itβs when itβs tough you reach into your bag of tricks split shoting or just weighting is an art form, use just enough weight to get by....better to string smaller shot than one big shot at least when the fishing is tough...once I go to 2# test tungsten paste puddy in the color of what ever conditions..IE green for weeds as an example....you can get shot in colors or do your own well worth the cost .the closer to the hook, the more your bait can swim...this can be crucial to your presentation...a string of shot smallest near the hook, heaviest to the angler, will allow your minnow to swim well at 1st then as it encounters more weight will struggle and fall back....triggering a hit....

I used to trap a bit back in the day, loved it...still would if my health allowed...here is a few pics....Iβve caught pretty much everything but a red fox and badger...they are around just not as many.....for years thought about a north road trip for critters we donβt have here...well any more.....did see a weasel once near mindenmines....a few reds....tried all season once on a big badger I had tracked scouting one year..never even pinched his toe

We have native reds and the bigger European reds..here the coyotes rule...greys do better because they climb well

Before electronics good anglers imagined in their head what was under water, the lay of the land, remembering what things were lying in low water or pre impoundment...casting hoping fish were there or the ones that are could be tempted....now much of that work is done for you...even boat skills are not as nessisary....is it any wonder fishing pressure has such an impact on quality? Probably need much stricter rules....in some places you can only catch 2 fish even released as catching and releasing many fish is damaging in that situation....mishandling, or poor handling.....what the future holds is clear

Has anyone tried raising them in an aquarium? If so what did you learn? also are scuds in tablerock and bull shoals? are they a critter that needs cold water or could they thrive in any lake in our area with the right bottom conditions?

Lot of fish taken out everywhere

Let hear about and see them...my only experience has been jumbos caught at lake of the woods here is a pic of the Missouri record 1-14 ...I think

They study it as monitoring a population, I think it says that in the start of the paper...bad water quality and golf courses go hand in hand...in my common carp research, waters where carp get out of control run off from golf courses is a big issue...I know weeds and silt has become an issue on Taney in some areas...my 1st thoughts are what habitat would that be good for? Palaemonetes paludosus, known as ghost shrimp, glass shrimp, and eastern grass shrimp Should do well, they are abundant in the weeds at Busch wild life CA north of Nevada, and chain pickerel, more effective predators on the sucker populations ( Tiger Trout) could be an easy fix...unsure how chain pike compete with trout, but back east they seem to co exist with out issues....historically chain pike was in the white river drainage, would be another angling opportunity Down lake in waters too cold for bass but a tad warm for trout...the shrimp would be a no brainer as long as no diseases introductions occurred...as more fishing pressure happens we need ways to spread out the love so to speak

Kinda puts a new spin on all your life...good to know π€π€π€

I find what he writes interesting even if I donβt agree with all of it

nutrients and inputs have been going up, septic systems, run off from yards roads and pastures ( nutrient loading) is on the rise all over SW Missouri...as an impoundment ages eutrophication occurs...the question is can we get better fishing with more restrictive length and bag limits? Does a 12βcrappie consume more than an 11β one? The reason we donβt catch 3 pound crappie often in Stockton is they are harvested long before they get that big and bag limits are commonly ignored, 30 fish is all you can have in your freezer, yet the same persons are on the lake every day taking limit upon limit....I guess it depends why someone fishes...if itβs for filling your freezer....from what Iβm told spotted bass are not so common since the reg change....

Harvest kinda does that

Seems weeds are becoming an issue in the lake....question is why? And can anything be done about it....is it bad? Or is it more fish habitat? Ideas? Opinions?

Yeah we have lots of Flyfishermen going after them, a mulberry fly might be quite the ticket at times
