It was pretty difficult and I was a little depressed that this was the best I could do. But they move fast. By the time I would find a group in a good spot for a photo, and start getting the focus somewhere close, they would disperse or move into a spot where you just couldn't see them that well. If they did hold together for a sec I could get off a round of shots, but they were still moving fast and it's all manual focus at that point. It was fun to watch and try though.

Agreed. I love just watching them.

Well I’m definitely no guide but I’d gladly show you around on that creek.

Spent NYE on the creek with my buddy @Harps. We knew going into it that the water was extremely low and the possiblility of a skunking was very real. Luckily I was able to kill the skunk with a wooly stripped through a deep pool. Fished below town in the morning. Had lunch at Festus Jacks's in downtown Crane. The food is worth a drive to Crane. Delicious. Then Harps fished above town after lunch and I chased him around with a camera until the batteries died in the camera and the sun. We did get to witness a nice hatch and saw tons of fish rising to them but were unsuccesful in getting a take. While there was an occasional mafly that came off, most were little midges that we just didn't have anything small enough to match. Still lots of good fish in the creek but man we need some rain. Fished 3 days this week in all different places and everywhere could use some rain.

Geez. After today my goal is just to catch a fish in 2026. Hopefully put that to rest on Thursday but I'm not real confident!

Set record highs for the past week but when I finally get a chance to wet a line the next ice age is setting in.

Nice job. Thanks for sharing.

It’s a beautiful place to fish but the catching has sucked this year.

We all know I ain’t gonna spank you with any fly. I’m not that good. But I’m having a good time!

I do offer lesssons.

Well don’t scare them all off!! I started tying some minnow cougars. Thought maybe they would commit to something a little smaller. Size 8

Those fish along the bank will lose their mind over a zoo cougar stripped through them. The hookup ratio sucks but it's entertaining. I almost ran up there yesterday for a few casts. If I would have known the BilletHead's were there I would have made the trip.

Yet again another vintage fly rod find.

I’ve got one of those somewhere. Had it around 50 years now. Fun little rifle. -

Finally got somewhere where I could watch this. That's really freaking cool. What a great project with a great story. Can't wait to see it when you are done. Congrats on getting it to this point. -
It is on the list. We have already have some things planned outside of fishing.
-
Yep, that's the loser I was talking about.

Thanks Marty. I was already planning on contacting when we got closer. I know you have spent some time out there. We might have a pretty good “guide” going with us but he won’t commit to it yet.

We will also be hosting Christmas as usual this year. Small gathering on Christmas Day will get burgers. And they are excited by that. Then the big family gathering on Saturday we will be keeping my mother's Christmas meal tradition alive by serving tacos!

Yep. About halfway between Cody and Yellowstone.

We aren't going to be roamming all over the country. We rented a house in Wapiti, WY for next August. Just going to run day trips from there. If you know anything about that area I would love to hear it.

One of the best meals ever created.

That's a nice day! Thanks for sharing. -
I took the week off and was planning on fishing a bunch but I would rather go when there are some flurries or sleet or something. That nice weather is just going to bring everyone outside.

In high school one of our friends was a competitive water ski jumper. It didn't snow very often that far south in Oklahoma, but one freezing winter we got a few inches. In what had to be the coolest thing to see from the outside, we got pulled over by the police for pulling a skier behind a car. It's a good thing it was small town Oklahoma.
