  1. Hopefully you can make it down here some day.
  2. One thing I really miss was going salmon fishing in Puget Sound and tossing the crab pots out on the way to the fishing and then pulling them on the way back to the ramp. Back then the limit was 6 Dungeness, on a good day you'd get a limit. There were also Red Rock Crabs, they liked rocky terrain (thus the name), a little smaller on average than Dungeness and you could keep a smaller size, Dungeness had to be something like 6" across the shell and Red Rocks 5". The Red Rocks had a little different taste, but were pretty good and meaty like the Dungeness. I never have seen Red Rocks in restaurants or stores for sale, dunno why, maybe too hard to harvest commercially. Used to save the salmon heads and backbones left after filleting to use as crab bait. The regulations have tightened considerably since then, shortened seasons, limits, and so on.
  3. Thanks - There seems to be a strong year class of smallmouth in the 17-19 inch range.
  4. And cobia, one time, when Cody brought some to Jigfest. It was pretty darned good too.
  5. Never had sheepshead or redfish. I did have speckled trout once and it was pretty good.
  6. Pretty neat. Seems like if you made one a bit bigger it would be killer for bass.
  7. Once again started at 10 AM as it was too cold for me early. Keitech bite today, fished a 2.8 on 3/16th and 1/4 heads, slow rolled on the bottom. Caught mostly smallmouth and spots with one 2lb. largemouth. Fishing deep, 20-40 feet, scrubbing the bottom. The spots were in the trees back in Indian, smallmouth were off the points and gravel banks. No striper encounters today. Another nice day, guess that will end late tomorrow. Caught 15 bass, 6 were keepers.
  8. The man has it figured out!
  9. Wonder if it was a sand shark, or dogfish. Supposedly they are the "fish" in fish and chips served in England. They were annoyingly plentiful in Puget Sound. Never ate one myself.
  10. Well I was rooting for the Mizzites to upset Bama, but it did not work out. Bama is pretty darned good. Kansas losing by 20 at Allen? Say it ain't so!
  11. Good to hear you got it fixed. I'm about 90% today, so I'll be able to get in my walk and do other stuff besides sit in front of the TV. How about those Chefs? Curious to see how serious Mahome's injury is.
  12. Tweaked it bending over to pick up a shoe. I was able to soldier on and get out and go fishing. 😃 But today it was kinda sore, so no activity today for me.
  13. Got 4 games setup to record today. 2 NFL playoff games, AR hoops and Mizzou playing Bama. Woot-Hoot!
  14. Forgot about Stripers, Whites and hybirds - they are pretty much all the same to me. I can eat them, but not my favorites, I'll usually release them. I have some neighbors that I will give a striper to one of these days, after I fillet it, they want some fish, and they aren't fishermen so they have no pre-conceived notions on the edibility or tastiness of fresh water fish. I'll see what they think of it.
  15. Thought of another one - Northern Pike, they are pretty good, but the bones are aggravating to work around. I've eaten pickerel too, they are good. Kokanee - They are fresh water sockeye, not as good IMO as sockeye from the sea, but not bad. I tweaked my back yesterday, won't be doing much today but watching football and posting on the internet. I might think of some more fish I have eaten. I did think of another one - white perch. They eat well too. Catching one that were big enough to be worth cleaning was the issue with them.
  16. Another one I forgot - suckers - only had them once, Grizz Wilson fried some up at a Jig fest and they were excellent!
  17. I forgot halibut, yeah they are good!
  18. I had the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young live double album back in high school. I think it is called 4 Way Street. If you are a CSN&Y fan, it is a must listen. Being reminded of it, I may go out and get the CD.
  19. Rick that sounds great! I hear you on the wind, it was windier than heck here.
  20. Yep, great advice! I do it once a year, and what the heck, it's free (insurance).
  21. Used to catch and smoke salmon and that would be at the top of my list. Blue cats from Grand lake - They are excellent. Haddock Flounder Swordfish Ahi - charred on the outside, red in the middle Bluegill fillets Yellow perch - I have eaten perch and walleye side by side, and the perch were better Walleye Crappie Lingcod Black sea bass Eel (unagi) served at a Japanese restaurant I once ate blackened sturgeon at a place in Portland OR, it was really good. I caught my own when I lived in WA, but never could make sturgeon taste as good as that one time I had it in Portland. Fried smelt. Tuna - I bet I eat canned tuna once a week 12" spotted bass fillets Blue shark - not bad on the grill And last on the list - trout. I've had some good campfire trout, but I was really hungry.
  22. With the too cold for me morning, I did not start until 10 AM and fished until 3 PM. First thing I did was motor back into Indian Creek where I had found shad and bass last Tuesday. The shad had moved about 100 yards up the channel, but there were a few fish still hanging around where I caught some on Tuesday Caught a couple of spots on the 2.8 Keitech scrubbing the bottom in 40 FOW, one was a really nice fat 17 incher. Made a cast, hit bottom, started slow rolling the little swimbait and it got crushed, fish on for a couple of seconds, then it was off - I figured it was probably a striper - anyway, when it got off, I let the bait fall and then started slowly retrieving it, and WHACK another striper - I saw this one grab it, maybe 10 feet down and 20 feet away, just something you don't see very often, a striper grabbing it underwater. Saw it give a couple of head shakes and it was off to the races! Wasn't quite the freight train like the one I encountered Tuesday, and after several minutes of drag pulling and following it out into the channel, it was exhausted and I was able to give it the lip lock and drag it into the boat. It was a fat 13.5 lb. fish. I did put it on the net for the picture, but no way it would fit in that net. Caught 10 black bass, 2 were keeper sized, mix of spots and smallies, most came on the Keitech with a couple on the Ned Really beautiful day, several eagles flying around, a great day to be out on the lake!
  23. That sure looks tasty, thanks for the review!
  24. Lo and behold, in the news today: LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Department of Health has issued a fish consumption advisory for walleye on two lakes in north central Arkansas. Bull Shoals Lake, located in Marion, Baxter and Boone counties, is affected as well as Norfork Lake, which covers Baxter and Fulton counties. The advisory comes after some walleye from both lakes were found to contain levels of mercury that have the potential to put human health at risk. According to the ADH, there is a scheduled meeting on Feb. 7 at the Donald W. Reynolds Library in Mountain Home beginning at 5 p.m. to answer questions on the advisory. The ADH says this advisory does not affect swimmers, skiers, boaters, catch and release activities, or other recreational uses and does not limit the use of Bull Shoals Lake or Norfork Lake as a drinking water source. Occasional fish consumers, such as vacationers and sport anglers, are at little risk for adverse health effects, the ADH says. The department says those most at risk include pregnant women, small children, and people who frequently eat walleye from Bull Shoals or Norfork lakes.
