  1. Fished with Dutch today, we were on the water by 0700, a bit chilly early, mid-50's but not too bad. Turned into a really nice day, it was in the low 70's when we left at 1230. Water temp was 71-73 for the most part. We caught 17 bass that were worth mentioning, plus a handful of micro-dinks. Got most of them on jigs, a few on worms, and a couple on Keitechs. The Keitech fish were deep, 40 feet down near the bottom off a rocky point and that was the only place we caught any on the swimbait. The jig and worm fish were anywhere from 10 to 30 feet deep, and as Dutch said: "The rockier the bank, the better". Never found them in bunches, just picked one off here and there. Mostly main lake and just inside the coves, did not try any backends of the coves, but did see a couple of boats working in the backs. Lots of little shad on the banks in places, but nothing chasing them. Did not see much top water activity at all. I threw a buzzer for a bit, and the bass did not show any interest in it. We had 4 keepers, two of them were smallmouth, 2 were spots. We also caught a couple of short 15 inch walleye. Only a couple of pleasure boats out there today, and just a few other fishermen. Couple of sycamores by the ramp getting that fall look.
  2. That fish is a tank!
  3. Great pics, and I always enjoyed hiking into the alpine lakes when I lived in Washington. I do miss it. Never been to Glacier, maybe someday I will make it,
  4. I hope they do it more often, provides for some entertainment.
  5. Yes that song Hurt is my favorite JC song, I think it is originally done by 9 Inch Nails.
  6. The Walton Arts Center October 14-15. It's the "Johnny Cash Experience". Not sure what that means, but I am guessing some sort of multi-media presentation. Sort of tempted to go, but probably not.
  7. Suh-weet! I love a buzz-bait bite.
  8. Anybody fish them for bluegill? I'd think the 1/32 would work for them under a float.
  9. Have not fished much lately on the big lakes, September is a month that is tough for me, plus I have had a lot of stuff to do around the house. Looking forward to November as far as fishing. Have not had a hip replacement myself, but had a knee replacement. Seems to be a wide range of pain experienced on replacement surgeries, if it seems to be a lot you certainly should talk to the docs or the therapy folks.
  10. I never catch many walleye in the fall, usually I get them in the spring while bass fishing. I have a buddy that catches them deep on spoons over on Table Rock this time of year, so you'd think it would work on the Beav too.
  11. Great colors on those fish!
  12. Agreed, it's not that big of a deal in most cases.
  13. Nice fish! Last time I was on that lake was Sept. 15, caught a 2 lb. smallmouth and that was it. Might give it a shot again next week.
  14. Yeah $45 I'll do them myself. But of course you can't do them with staples in you for sure. About 7-8 years ago I stopped by Battery Outfitters in Eagle Rock, swapped out my two trolling motor batteries. They did it for free then, maybe took 10 minutes. Management has changed there since then, so they'd probably charge for it now I imagine.
  15. Have a good stash of NuTech jigs and I throw them from time to time. Jewel has just come out with a "Pee-Wee" football jig. It's basically a small profile jig, but comes in 1/2 and 5/8 sizes. I had to pick a few up, have not tried them yet. Fiber weedguard with a sickle style hook.
  16. Been a while since we had a Mt. Lion thread. From the MDC: MDC confirms 117th confirmed mountain lion sighting in Missouri This sighting was confirmed in Shannon County on Sept. 12 JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) confirms that an adult elk was killed by a mountain lion in Shannon County on Sept. 12. Reports of a mountain lion sighting were sent to MDC staff early on Sept. 12, and members of MDC’s Large Carnivore Response Team responded to the area later that same day to confirm the sighting. Trail camera images were used to confirm that a mountain lion was in the area and had returned to the elk carcass to feed. “Mountain lions are natural predators to elk, and this scenario is nothing to be concerned about,” says MDC Furbearer Biologist Nate Bowersock. “Here in Missouri, we have an abundant of natural foods for mountain lions. While we do get questions regarding livestock, there has never been a confirmed instance of a mountain lion killing livestock in Missouri.” Mountain lions are known to travel through Missouri, but there is no known breeding population in the state. MDC staff did collect genetic samples from the site which are in the process of being analyzed to provide further information about the animal such as the sex of the animal. Most confirmed sightings of mountain lions in Missouri are males. MDC continues to monitor confirmed mountain lion sightings in the state, and this sighting marks the 117th confirmed sighting since 1994. Suspected mountain lion sightings can be reported to MDC
  17. Slavery was very common in ancient times. The Romans were notorious for enslaving people, you lost a war with the Romans, there was a good chance your people would end up as Roman slaves. It is estimated that Caesar may have enslaved up to a million people during his conquest of Gaul. The ancient world was a brutal place, Christianity offered hope and a better life in the afterlife for people who, for the most part, led a miserable existence. The life we lead would be paradise to those folks. They spoke of a land of "Milk and Honey", you can take a ride to WalMart and fill your shopping cart with milk and honey. The only time in my life that I have spent in daily contact with people of color was my time in the Army. And there were absolutely differences from a cultural perspective. But when it was work time, we'd say that we're all green and let's get it done. Maybe things have changed, I don't know, all the people I hang out with are white, and it is not because I want it to be that way, there just are very few people of color in my area.
  18. Yeah these guys mainly do it for fun, more of a social thing, no money involved, they aren't trying to measure up to the "sticks". 😃
  19. LOL, never thought of using the Bosu Ball as a trampoline. And I also have ceiling fans, I don't want to be knocking them down!
  20. It's a thing here in Bella Vista. I should give it a try, due to having an artificial knee I can't do anything that requires running.
  21. That's one of my reasons for exercising, to maintain functionality. I want to be able to fish up until I drop dead.
  22. One grandad of mine died at 56. He had contracted Rheumatic Fever as a toddler, at least that is what they thought it was, they were sharecroppers living in the MO Bootheel, no clinics or hospitals around at that time, 1918 or so. They wrapped him in a wet sheet to try and keep him cool and that was about all they could do for him. He died at 56, untreated Rheumatic Fever can lead to heart disease later in life and that is what killed him. Grandad on my dad's side died at 46 of a stroke. leaving my grandma with 7 boys to raise. The women of the family tend to live long lives, so hopefully I have their longevity genes. I should stop by some garage sales, it is funny how many people will buy exercise equipment, but never use it.
  23. Squats are good, prevents can't-get-out-of-a-chair syndrome. When I was rehabbing my knee replacement, I started doing Bosu ball squats, the thing about using a Bosu ball is that it also adds balancing to the squats. Bunch of other exercises you can do with a Bosu ball, do a search on Bosu ball exercises if you are interested. Cheap home gym.
  24. Thanks for the info Bill. I have a bunch of Zoom Ol' Monsters, used to fish them quite a bit. Might have to break them out of storage. Too much rin i the forecast for me to think about it until next week.
  25. Here's a quote for you (and all the other oldsters on here). Keep on moving. "Without question, exercise is the most powerful intervention to address muscle loss, whether it occurs in the context of advancing age or debilitating chronic or acute diseases,"
