  1. Avoiding traffic on a holiday weekend would be hard to do. Especially this year where Covid is keeping everyone local. Plenty of water this year, CFS is double the normal for this time of year on all of central Ozark streams. Floating should not be an issue. Should have a recharge this week from Laura.
  2. My river rods are usually cheap and expendable. Never more than $60 bucks goes in the drink or snaps off on a limb.
  3. Actually oil was created by the breakdown of carbon in deposits of vegetative matter compressed by pressure and maybe some heat over many years. Then it was refined by someone on a machine to get rid of its impurities. The stuff I use has many additives. But I am ok with it going back into nature. I doubt if I live to see it drilled back out of any of the lakes I fish.
  4. Went to Barnes Jewish today on the West Side and got kicked out. Told not to come back for a year. Cancer got moved over to the "BEAT IT" column. That one is officially over.
  5. Rooster tail, small crankbait, or a soft plastic can always drum up something. Even on my yak, I carry a light action rod and a medium action rod. I can toss most anything to catch a fish.
  6. You only have to worry about waters cooling properties when it gets stiff. Winter is the time to watch out. Don't want to freeze up the water intakes on a cold winter day.
  7. Small softsided cooler to run up front under the front deck to hold cold liquids and lunch would be handy. Looks like a winner. Use grass beds and eddies instead of anchors where possible. Pull up to a rock and drop a foot over to hold yourself in place. There are no anchors in my river boats.
  8. Wonder what the guy in the blue shirt was doing with his hands on that ride, they were below the waist. Driver was shaved for better aerodynamics. What happened to the kayaker they hit???
  9. Fishing pretty slow there from a boat, was there this weekend. Ran Sunday from Powder Mill to 2 Rivers. Nice water, lots of runs. But no bites. If you have a boat on a trailer, I would not advise the tour of Blue Spring. The steep grade is pretty rough boarded out, and the steep v at the bottom challenges a 16 foot jet boat on a trailer. Boat over rode the front going down, settled back down in the right position coming back up. 4x4 on for max control.
  10. Sounds like a big cluster pluck.
  11. I remember when minnows pulling the hairs on my legs were irritating. Pomme is on my list this fall.
  12. What is this social media thing?? We quit posting spots long ago......
  13. Something old timers put on fly lines to make them slick and cast well. Last modern dressings were made out of silicone deposits. Older dressings were secret concoctions of material to make silk flylines go their distance and float.
  14. 25 years of launching boats, never had one slide off like that. I will have to try something different from now on. Would have really jacked up a prop lower on a heavy boat.
  15. Nothing beats a lazy warm summer day with a float or a run on a river. Been spending my weekends there. Beats a lake any time. Everyone needs a little Social Distancing.... Covid does not seem to exist on those areas either. Its a wonderful world.
  16. Driving along, minding my own business this weekend, 4 deputy cars and a Highway Patrol scream around me. Short way ahead, HP goes screaming the other direction. Others are out of cars on foot. Then 2 drunks slapping it out on side of road. Slam in reverse, back in to drive, pop a beer and watch..... Went by this morning, the 2 were at it again in the yard.
  17. Dumped the jet boat on the ramp this weekend. Same ramp I have used all season, something just decided to slide and off it went about half way down. Landed on the jet foot and was a bithc to get back on. Carpet bunks, 2x on edge.
  18. There is still a Tea Party?? Both sides have been pouring my tax dollars out by the tons lately without any recourse. Kids and Grandkids are gonna have a big payback.
  19. Looks like a bloated sculpin to me. But good job keeping on target. I spend hours at a time aiming for Smallies and catching drum, bowfins, largemouth, spots, redears, and everything else under the sun. Persistance pays off.
  20. Goretex still lets some molecules thru. I have always tried to find a hollow stump, a log, or a tree to take a field dump. Field dumps are emergencies and are last resorts. I am purely refined. Ran a chipmunk out of a stump one time, poor little guy.
  21. All that crap has washed away here a long time ago. We do have a sinkhole nearby where they have found many reptile fossils in Bollinger County.
  22. My thoughts too. If you have a jet, use it on a river. Keep the props on lakes to save the lower units.
  23. I was thinking Twinkies. I remember them now.
